My server rack sits at 78 and I've gone 7 or 8 years without a HDD failure. If that is causing issues with this machine, they're using the worst disk vendor in the universe. But I do appreciate your help, and I'll consider a USB fan for the replacement unit.

I just checked the temperature. It is 71 degrees in the room and just 78 behind the unit in the hottest spot. I hope that isn't causing problems, but I can't imagine that it is. I'll monitor the temperature closely and see.

It doesn't have the best ventilation, though it is better than any of my previous receivers. It has a BD player on top but nothing to the side for several inches and it doesn't feel warm when I stick my hand back there.

No joke. Dish has exposed TurboHD as a major marketing gimmick. I'd feel cheated.

D* probably looks a bit better than E*, as others have mentioned. All other things being equal though (though to me, they aren't, as E* does not have Fox News HD, Spike HD and a few others) the equipment (VIP instead of HR-series) on E* is much better.

Thanks for posting the info from KARK. I'm glad they finally signed a contract with E*. I sure wish KLRT's corporate owners would do the same thing. It's the only one (other than PBS) that I have a tough time getting OTA.

Depends on what is being broadcast. Most of our local stuff is 4:3 (like most markets) while many network feeds are 16:9. You can always stretch 4:3 if it is that important to you.

Economic slowdowns are the perfect time to do capital improvements, by the way. The hard part is getting short-term investors to see it your way if you are a publicly traded company.
