    Dish Network Launches DTVPAL PLUS

It's the same one in the DVR as in the Plus. The DTVPal Plus uses a Silicon tuner from Microtune instead of the old Thompson "can" tuner. FYI, it's the same tuner as in the Sansonic and Lasonic CECBs that got top ratings for picture quality.

HomePlug built into the 622, How cool is that?

Not with HomePlug, but it could with other non-HomePlug powerline networking devices.

HomePlug built into the 622, How cool is that?

LER, are any of the 622s or HomePlug adapters plugged into surge supressors?

HomePlug built into the 622, How cool is that?

The PLK200 is HomePlugAV (200Mbps) which is not compatible with the HomePlug 1.0 (14Mbps) that is built into the 622 and 722, so you are going to have to use the second adapter plugged into the Ethernet port on your DVR in order to connect it to the other PLK200 that is connected to your router.

First Look: Dish Network's DTVPal Digital Converter

Nope. I'm talking about the Dish DTVPal. It is currently shipping with a "can" tuner and not a Silicon tuner. I'll see if I can get some photos of the inside of the STB.

    VIP622 and Netgear

As long as it's one of the 14Mbps (HomePlug 1.0) or 85Mbps (HomePlug 1.0 Turbo) models it will work just fine. The 200Mbps models are not compatible.

    VIP622 and Surge Protectors

    LOL... They'll work just fine...

Is Monster Strip blocking my DISHComm?

Yeah, I've actually seen them as low as $25, but I posted the Dell link since they are a reputable dealer. I had never even heard of the others that I found during my search.

Ethernet via wireless bridge for 722?

HomePlug works just like Ethernet, where each node takes turns communicating, so they won't interfere with each other. You will only need another adapter to connect to the router. The last I heard, DishComm in the 222 hasn't been activated yet, but I don't have one so someone else will have to...

Ethernet via wireless bridge for 722?

Dish calls it "DishComm". It's in the 622, 722 and I believe the 211. Generally they tell you not to plug it into a surge protector because certain types will block the HomePlug signal. There are HomePlug certified surge protectors on the market. The HNP6 line from tii is one example, but I...

Ethernet via wireless bridge for 722?

I second this. The 722 has HomePlug built into it, so all you need is a second HomePlug to Ethernet bridge plugged into the router to connect the 722 to the Internet.

    HD over your powerlines?

First generation BPL rollouts gave this technology a bad rap. They tried to use notch filters, post-processing, to remove interfering frequencies. Anyone that has ever worked with filters knows that filters simply attenuate the signal, but don't completely remove it. Later generations based...

    HD over your powerlines?

Yep. Matt Theall, president of this new alliance, is also the president of the HomePlug Alliance.

    Future Receivers

Yep. They'd like to make it completely transparent to the user by building it into the receiver in the future (The way DishComm works), but it needs to be a faster version (like the 200Mbps HomePlug AV or whatever comes next).
  17. P

    Future Receivers

Echostar and DirecTV have both been working on this for a while, but it always seems to be on their "near future" roadmap. The problem is how to actually transmit the streams. Homes with Ethernet wiring in them are rare, so that's out. Wireless is unreliable and slow, so that's out. MoCA...

    Whole House DVR

The 622 and 722 have HomePlug (aka DishComm) built-in. If other receivers in the home also had HomePlug built it, they could potentially receive recordings streamed from the 622/722.

HomePlug built into the 622, How cool is that?

You need one with an Ethernet port. You would plug it into an open Ethernet port on your router. I wouldn't trust that item that you have showing anyway. There is no 12Mbps HomePlug, only 14Mbps, and I've never seen that one before. A good place to get one cheap isNewegg.com.

HomePlug built into the 622, How cool is that?

Yeah, that's what I was hinting at. My current neighborhood has two houses sharing a transformer and a previous one had three. All the houses that share a transformer could possibly "see" each other's HomePlug network. This is why the 56bit DES encryption is built into HomePlug 1.0 devices...
  21. P

HomePlug built into the 622, How cool is that?

Yes, which is why I said it will go as far as the transformer. I never claimed it will go past it.
  22. P

HomePlug built into the 622, How cool is that?

That would explain it. Those DS2 guys give powerline networking a bad name.

HomePlug built into the 622, How cool is that?

Was it HomePlug or one of the "other" powerline solutions? There are some imitators out there that don't work as good (The Panasonic brand models and the 200 Mbps products from Netgear and D-Link that use a non-HomePlug chipset from a company called DS2).
