    5 sat setup revisited

When I had my system looking at 148 and 61.5 during the great years when I could get distant locals, the channels would show up twice. Of course, this was with a 6000 receiver way back when. I'm not sure how the new receiver software would react.

First Look: Dish Network's DTVPal Digital Converter

interestingly, a DTV Pal shows up in my equipment list in my Dish Network account (look under 'My Equipment'). I ordered 2 through Dish on 6/26, and paid $68 including shipping and sales tax. Ugh!

First Look: Dish Network's DTVPal Digital Converter

Scott - Thanks for the review, and posting the manual. I have been looking for a converter box solution for my parents, who strictly get their TV from the rooftop antenna. No, he doesn't want a dish - and I've tried many times. This device appears to be the best on the market at this time, and I...

Dish says I need a new dish to get my HD Locals? Something doesn't sound right!

My locals will be on 129. I *could* repoint my 148 to 129, but if Dish wants to upgrade my old 1999 Dish 500 (I put the DPs in myself 3 years ago) with a new wiz-bang 1000, what's the impact?

Dish says I need a new dish to get my HD Locals? Something doesn't sound right!

I will have the same problem. They want to install a new dish on my roof so I can get 129. I currently have dishes with DP LNBs pointing to 61.5, 148, and a Dish 500 with 110/119. My question is - which 1000 series dish will they try to install, and is the mounting foot larger than the Dish 500...

Question about Analog Locals with the 622

Unfortunate that the 622 has only an ATSC tuner. I am considering upgrading from the 811. Now for a quick question - can the 622 record off the OTA ATSC tuner? Thanks-

    No FSN for DishHD Bronze/Silver?

Friend of mine was looking into D* for RSN in HD. They won't have it: Quote: Thanks for writing us back. I'm excited to hear that you're considering joining the DIRECTV family. If you join us, we're confident that you'll enjoy DIRECTV service and all of the customer benefits that come with it...

    Special DPP44 switch?

Agreed. Switches with power inserters will not operate with the power removed. Such as the old SW64, the new DPP44, etc. Yes, it's a single point failure source for the design, but has been proven reliable in field use. I have so far only experienced a single SW64 failure, and it was internal -...

    6000 OTA problem

I do not have a Superdish, but I have some ideas. Try the antenna cable with a standard TV to verify your aerial/cabling is still functional. I realize this setup had worked previously, but it's best to start at square one. Next I would perform a hard reset on the 6000 by holding the power for...

How many 6000's are out there?

Still have mine. It's currently not being used as I have upgraded to the 811. But I'm keeping it as a backup, as I bought both of the modules plus the Legacy adapter for Dish Pro equipment. Ain't it great being an existing subscriber when the new stuff comes out?

    Tom's Whole-House SD network solution

I personally use a Channel Plus NF-469 filter which filters out channels 14,16, and 18 on my system. I have satellite 1 (510) on ch14, satellite 2 (811) on ch16, and the DVD megachanger on ch18. OTA goes thru the filter, then routes to the combiner with the output from my 3 channel modulator...

POLL: Do you have a 2nd Dish?

3 dishes. Dish 500 for 110/119 Old original dish for 148 21" for 61.5 as it's at 11 degrees EL. Upgraded to DP last year. And found another dish new in the box in the garage....hmmmm.....

Piece of crap! 811 that is!

My solution was simple. It's been turned off since April. We use the 6000 instead. So my wife hasn't had the chance to complain over the lockups and bad PQ. I keep monitoring this forum to see if it has gotten any better ;-)

    Help me with this remote...

For our system we're using a Pronto Pro. I have 800 CDs and 300 DVDs accessable, plus the usual 811 (still deciding if I want to keep it or not),6000, and 510 dish receivers. With the enormous help of the guys at Remotecentral.com I have all the movies and CDs individually listed on the touch...

    Better perfomer: 811 or 6000?

My opinion is my 6000 outperforms my 811 in overall picture using the component outputs. The 6000 has a brighter picture, whereas the 811 has "crushed" blacks - the dark scenes have no discernable background images, where on the 6000 you could make out the back wall or a doorway. I like Alias...

    P266 Dark Video Thread

As it stands, the 811 still has an inferior picture when compared side by side with the 6000. The comparison used component cables to the same input on a Mits 55905 using a Zektor HDS4 to switch between the receivers. The overall picture is darker and there are fewer details in darkened scenes...

    811 & OTA HD Picture

I did an A/B comparison between my 6000 and 811 while watching the same OTA channel. The 811 had lower audio volume and a darker picture compared to the 6000. What was interesting is that the colors were much deeper with the 811 - but the wife and I preferred the 6000 picture quality. This was...

New software downloading on my 811 now!

To clarify my tests - I was on Discovery HD for both the 6000 and the 811. However, I was using the optical audio output from the 6000 and the analog audio output from the 811. My apologies on this - I didn't realize my setup mistake until I was asked about the digital audio. I'm feeling a...

New software downloading on my 811 now!

Thanks for the tip on the optical audio - I will check it out. Since the 811 is not "ready for prime-time" I have it's audio and video routing through the VCR2 inputs on the receiver. The component video is being switched by a Zektor. Therefore the only output I didn't use was the optical out...

New software downloading on my 811 now!

After the 266 download, I checked on the dark picture problem I was experiencing. The 266 made some improvement in the picture, however it is still sub-standard. My comparison between my 6000 and my 811 shows a significant difference when they are both tuned to the same channel. The dark scenes...

Do you like or dislike the 811?

Unfortunately, yes. But since I've only had it since April, it hasn't been too painful yet. I figured I would spend $20 total on the extra reciever charge in hopes the software will be updated to make it useable. After June, I will remove either the 6000 or the 811 from my account. I like your...

Do you like or dislike the 811?

I am still waiting for the dark picture fix. Until then, my 811 sits atop my stereo cabinet gathering dust. I am using my 6000 instead for my viewing. The 811 was purchased to replace my 6000, but it is currently an inferior product. If the 811 is not fixed by mid-June (as in, delay of software...

What's the latest on 811 fixes?

OK, so aside from the verbal wars on this thread, there has not been a definitive date set for 2.66 update, nor that it will contain the dark picture fix. That's near as I can tell after dredging through the seven pages. Has there been any further statements from Dish concerning a "bad chip" in...
