    Service Restored to 129 Satellite!

Thought you were younger than me. ;) FB is only scary if you surf naked and pet sharks - and I gotta tell ya, millions are that dumb. Doc and Joel are over there with me also beating sense into certain types of idiots. ;)

EDDIE! Dang man! You were early to the "good fight" - now that we're over on Facebook, I've missed your thoughts!

    Service Restored to 129 Satellite!

Hi guys! Been a LONG time. I saw a post from someone about timers not switching over from HD to SD. That's not quite right. Possibly depending on receiver model (622 here), and channel number (use the low ones), it WILL switch, but you might have to reboot the box. I am in the old habit...

ESPN2 Not available for USC vs Oregon

There's 3 reasons for that: Bandwidth, bandwidth, and, um, oh yeah - bandwidth. If the providers didn't have to carry 714,629 copies of the SAME programming just to satisfy local pocketbooks (they've got to get their 3 minutes per hour of local ads in), we would have HD everything.

    HDMI/HDCP issue

Hi guys! Been a long time since I've been around, but that's because my 622s run great - until now. One of them has decided to not display anything if I switch my monitor (a Dell LCD) from DVI (hooked to Dish HDMI out via an adapter) to VGA and back again. If I pull the DVI cable or...

Uses for an old 105 SuperDish?

The SuperDish should work quite well when pointing the 110 LNB at 129. The outrigger LNB can be sold or shelved - it's quite useful.

    Dish Pro Plus 64 Switch

Tell ya what, John, I'll build a DPP46 for you. ;) It's going to cost you $350 plus shipping. Ah heck - tell ya what, I'll throw in 2 extra output ports for free! :D

Does changing the skew on a DishPro 500 change the look angle?

Good job SmityWhity! You've got it down pat! In short, set the skew per the book or receiver (making sure it's right - there's known errors in the D1000 book). Make sure you've got clear view for 5 degrees azimuth each side of "center" (it doesn't need that much, but compasses and eyeballs...

    Elevation Angle for Line-of-Sight

I wonder why you didn't just get your aiming numbers out of your receiver - it's right there on the same screen as the signal strength. Oh - and when eyeballing for LOS, remember that the dish has a 22 degree offset. That is, it appers to be looking much lower than it really is.

    Questions on getting Dish service

Pausing or holding an account will cause a local retailer to lose money, so do this through Dish directly, and make dang sure you get it IN WRITING (good luck!) that you can suspend your service without paying a cancellastion fee.

Horrible service and I don't even HAVE Dish yet...

I must STRIDENTLY disagree! While MANY (even most) installers can be pretty bad, I am NOT one of them.

Could I use a Phase III DirecTV dish?

Unh. Maybe, but it's just going to be a lot of trouble. LNBs and pans (D* or E*) just aren't that expensive most of the time. Maybe you can make a swap deal with someone. I know I wouldn't have a problem giving someone a D500 with a Twin in trade for a Phase III (maybe plus $10 for the trouble).

HD only a la carte? where is it?

Don't count on it being available for much longer - if it still is even now.

dish network and cable broadband in the same room

The TV channel being used by the TV2 output should NOT be an issue. A standard diplexer will NOT pass the cable internet frequencies on the SAT side. SAT is 950-2150MHz (or higher). "TV" is below 950 (but some diplexers will NOT handle the very low (40MHz) range that some cable internet...

    DPP44 longevity

I strongly DISagree about weather boots. They OFTEN cause more trouble than they are worth. If the installer used weatherproof connectors (which are quite common nowadays), you should have no problems as long as the cable are run so that water runs away from the switch. I use Gilbert UE-6...

    Question on account suspension??

I've heard several stories that report that you can NOT repeaat NOT reactivate the old HD pack when returning from vacation hold or similar shutdown.

Need to buy stuff for 5th TV - Not sure exactly what...

Another DP34 is the recommended method - as long as you can get 2 RG-6 cable feeds to the 322. IF and ONLY if: 1. you went with a single-tuner (301 or 311) AND 2. only have two satellite feeds to the DP34, then you could hang a DP21 on the cascade outputs of the DP34. It's not an approved...

    622 and rewiding live tv...

I think it's just a different way of getting to the "starting" frame (P-frame?). My 921 used to jump FORWARD. I like the 622 method as it makes it easier to single-step when you want to.

    dish network installers online training

SBCA certification never was worth much. The useful content would fit on a single page. OTOH, Doctor Bob, it does NOT take a whole year under supervision. In fact, I've brought a few guys up to speed in just a couple of weeks. Of course, I only recruit people that have a brain. That's...
