What's the cheapest way to get locals?

Here's a weird question, I haven't updated my OTA equipment to get the new 3.0 standard. Is the Hopper ready to receive that signal, when I do so? My TV is over 10 years old, so I'll need a new TV to get OTA on the built in tuner.

    Disney Networks Dispute Recitifed

Better suited is if you know someone with another provider, who might "let you watch your preferred programming." [emoji6] That's what I do, specifically with my local RSNs, since Dish purged them.

    Disney Networks Dispute Recitifed

My personal opinion is this is why the traditional satellite/cable model is slowly dying. The likes of a YouTube TV and such do go through the same carriage issues, but it's much simpler to drop on of those for another service than calling Direct or Comcast to come out and swap equipment. The...

    Disney Networks Dispute Recitifed

I'm on Dish Anywhere and looking at the sports channels. This would explain why my guide jumps from TBS to FS2. I thought for a second that ESPN pulled a SiriusXM and requested that their channels be removed from Dish Anywhere. [emoji38]

    Team Summit 2021

It is funny. For years, many people (including me) have said we should move to a pay for the channels we want format. With streaming, it's exactly that. I still hold by my opinion, but it seems that others now have the opposing perspective with the theory now being put to practice. Sent from my...

NBC Sports Bay Area, California and Washington Cut off April 1

I've never tried that tactic, because where I live, the only viable market for sports is New York and Dish doesn't carry any New York city and state based RSNs. Plus, although I like the Mets and Rangers, I'm more of a Red Sox and Bruins fan.

    Dish PPV coupons

This thread resurrection is brought to you by... I have tried for a PPV coupon in years, but I think the last one I got was six or seven years ago. At least that's what I noticed.

NBC Sports Bay Area, California and Washington Cut off April 1

I'm surprised that it took this long. NBC Sports Boston was gone back when it was CSN New England. And, wasn't NBC Sports Chicago removed a while back?

    HBO Is Back!

AT&T got greedy, and Dish told them to pound sand. If this was 30 years ago, Dish would be bound to go out of buisness without HBO and Cinemax. They don't nearly hold the same clout that they once held. Streaming apps and more competition beyond that of Showtime/The Movie Channel and Encore led...

    Dish /T-Mobile

T-Mobile has good coverage in most of New England (excluding Maine). I left T-Mobile for a family plan on AT&T, only because at the time AT&T and T-Mobile were planning a merger. If I only knew that wouldn't have gone through, I would have forced her to come to T-Mobile instead of me joining her...

Dish customer support trying to switch customer to DirectTV??

No Dish rep would ever try to get a customer to switch to DirecTV. Must have been a similar number or satellite retailer. Sounds like similar to those numbers that unsuspecting people call because their computer said that there was a virus on a webpage.

DISH Statement on Apollo Group Management

Honesty, if I spot it on WFXT, I'll take a picture of it and find out who I should send it to. You can't reneg on an existing contract. If I could, I'd have no more mortgage and college loans.

Apollo cuts DISH customer access to local stations in 10 markets

Sorry to those affected. I'm glad the court told Appollo to take a hike with the Cox stations. At least stupidity wasn't able to reign supreme. Anyone one of us with a satellite tv, cable tv, or cellphone contract, try telling the company that you're selling your service to someone else, so the...

will the free snap ever be available to customers

This is why I was happy to be a guinea pig for Dish. Thanks to them and Scott for including me in that test run. Might not be perfect, but it's a million times better than how my Hopper 1 was since the UI update. Honestly, $10 to $15 on Ebay is well worth the price.

DISH Statement on Apollo Group Management

So there is an agreement for the Cox media stations? I never knew that when a station is sold, they can reneg on a deal that already exists. Well then, my question is how low is the IQ of the decision makers at this company?

King of the Hill used to be on Adult Swim programming block on Cartoon Network, if I am correct. Not sure if you checked there.

Cox Media running channel scrolls for Dish Dispute

That's your choice. My issue is not with people choosing to pay for locals if they want to. My wife also wants PTAT, as I previously stated. So, I too pay the $12.00 charge for locals. My stance however is that the station owners charging these fees causes subscription hikes and is just not...

Cox Media running channel scrolls for Dish Dispute

They charge their customers because owners of local stations complained that they should be compensated. You spun around in a circle to end up making a collection of loaded statements that contradict each other. This was done all while becoming condescending with me, for the purpose of being...

Cox Media running channel scrolls for Dish Dispute

um, look at most people's bill. They pay $12.00 per month to watch the locals. If we remove the locals and use an OTA module, then it's free. Hence, the greed from local owners resulted with a $12.00 charge to view local channels through Dish's distribution. Yes, thanks to Dish you have the...

Cox Media running channel scrolls for Dish Dispute

I do have the answer. Stop uplinking, give away free OTA modules and antennas, in markets where available, push the use of Locast, and let the locals greedy business model crumble. Now, I said I didn't take issue with cable channels charging Dish. That's called reading, left to right the...

Cox Media running channel scrolls for Dish Dispute

Let me add this anecdote, so take it at face value. WHDH (Independent) and WLVI (CW affielate) are locals in the Boston market. Sunbeam (station owner) pulled all their locals off Dish, months ago. With the small sample of Dish subs I know, compared with Dish subs here, I have not heard one...

Cox Media running channel scrolls for Dish Dispute

Your picture example is again a claim that they take this one item and specifically sell that one item. They bundle a bunch of items, some of which have an agreement to be sold and others are free which are included for convenience. Its semantics that you argue. In the end, the service was built...

Cox Media running channel scrolls for Dish Dispute

Again, nobody is taking a program from a free broadcast and then adding it to their own channel. That isn't an accurate comparison, as I stated yesterday. So isn't local channel owners having a tizzy fit over Locast. We can do this back and forth all day. And, you have yet to address my point...
