Dish Network Retailer Chat Recap - July 10, 2007

I watched an Discovery type show for free when they enabled VOD on my 522 unit. The few times I have checked since then showed nothing available (for free at least), so I stopped looking. I wouldn't have paid for the show I watched though. Brad

Dish Network Retailer Chat Recap - July 10, 2007

How is it ever going to "work"? This reminds me of the attempt to sell us the original DIVX dvd disks. We would "buy" the movie, but only have a coaster at the end of a day or two. I guess this is nice if you are a WWE addict and can't get your fill now, but is that market really large...

LEFTOVER equipment junk after HD conversion? Now what?

I have seen several "ads" locally, including some sent to our house, about places that will sell stuff on eBay for you. That might be a good solution in this case.... Brad

    Some Interesting Dish Info

I only get SkyAngel, not Dish service. :) I do get the PI channels, but I would scrap those to scrap the DVR fees. I only got them because I was already paying. :) Brad

Sending HDTV Signal Through My House?

I don't have any HDTVs yet, though I am on the verge of buying one. I am thinking toward the future. Though I think the smaller TV I have on my desk is HD-ready, which probably means it could take the signal too. I don't know if I would want to pay for a DVR just for it though. I have gotten...

    Some Interesting Dish Info

I would have to say this is not a strong argument. I agree that disputing it won't make much sense, but that doesn't mean that a consumer has no right to complain about it. Yeah, I could give up my DVR and save the monthly fees, but I don't do that either, though it completely annoys me to...

Sending HDTV Signal Through My House?

Any suggestions on what to look for locally to find a cheaper source of wire? Shipping really hits hard on the spools. Brad

    Some Interesting Dish Info

It's another "because we can" fee. I don't like it, but griping about it won't change anything. :) Brad

Sending HDTV Signal Through My House?

Does anyone know if these devices work when run to a common point, requiring more than a single cable? I am planning on rewiring things to a "wiring closet" where I would then patch different cables to the rest of the house. Most points would hook to a network switch, but the HDMI extension...

Sending HDTV Signal Through My House?

Those might work. How do you split a component signal? It looks like the wire must be dedicated to this task. I am looking at adding some wiring to my house, so I suppose I could run dedicated lines if/when I do that. Brad

Sending HDTV Signal Through My House?

Thanks for the pointers. It looks like it is out of my price range for now. :( Brad

Sending HDTV Signal Through My House?

I don't care (within reason) how it gets back to an HDTV signal, I just want to be able to watch the signal on other HDTVs in the house, especially recorded shows. I have gotten used to not having to worry about which TV I am at. Brad

Sending HDTV Signal Through My House?

OK, you are correct. It is Yellow-White-Red. How about an answer to the question? Brad

Sending HDTV Signal Through My House?

I currently have two 522 units for my Dish programming. I take the RGB output from each unit and send it back out through the house so I can pick up the signal on any TV using a Channel Plus modulator (much better than the built-in option). Can I do anything like this if I upgrade to a 722 (or...

    Some Interesting Dish Info

While I question P Smith, the black helicopters were finally found to be real.... :) Brad

    Some Interesting Dish Info

The problem with the latter is that you may "lose" your grandfathered state when you have to upgrade you receiver for some reason. I had to do so when I got frustrated with the space limits on my two 501 units. I went up to two 522 units just before they were freely available (bought on ebay)...

Dish Speaks on DRM on HBO and Cinemax

Some specific content might not be produced, but a great deal of content still would. artistic productions existed long before modern copyright law and DRM. I agree with the distrust of government, unfortunately, media conglomerates only have a stranglehold on the industry because of the...

Dish Speaks on DRM on HBO and Cinemax

DO you really think they will stop? I think they will DRM everything they can get away with. Ironically, it will drive people away, but they are not known for really thinking things through. We are seeing the death-throws of a faulty distribution scheme, IMHO. Brad

    Is this CSR wrong?

If you lease a car, you will get to spend all the time waiting in the service repair shop and then you will get to pay for the repairs that are outside the base warranty. Leasing has its drawbacks.... It's the reason some people call it "fleecing". :) Brad

Need Dish Installer in Cardington, Ohio Area

I am trying to get my sister setup on SkyAngel (Dish equipment and satellites at 61.5). Does anyone know a reliable installer that can install the system in that area? She got a quote of $250, minus $50 since she already had the Dish. That seems too high for me. She lives in a mobile home, so...

    Extra 622 Fees w/o HD?

I won't upgrade to something being phased out, but I would like more hard drive space. The 522 is worth the monthly cost over my previous 501, but I don't want to pay any more fees. Brad

    Loophole? (DISHOnline bandwith question)

The company I mentioned wasn't throttling. They were just threatening the user. It's like saying, "Don't step across the line," but then not telling the person where the line is. :) Brad

    Extra 622 Fees w/o HD?

I currently own 2 522s and I am using SkyAngel-only, though with locals and the public interest channels. I pay Dish each month for the right to have my DVRs and the 2nd receiver. :( If I buy 2 622s on Ebay, will I get hit with any additional fees? I like the idea of extra space (since we...

    Loophole? (DISHOnline bandwith question)

I was reading an article the other day where the ISP told someone he had exceeded the download threshold, though they would not say what it was. They also threatened that he would lose service for a year if he exceeded it again. They wouldn't even come clean on what it was. :( Brad

    Loophole? (DISHOnline bandwith question)

Most of them will not define unlimited, even though they do have numbers internally. They won't tell you where the line is. They only tell you if you stepped over it. Any such limit should be published, but it isn't for anyone that I know of. :( Brad
