DISH Network Retailer Chat Recap - "Hopper Special" - 2/16/2012

I'm a bit sour on this already because Dish won't just mail me the boxes for me to install myself, even if I had to buy the other pieces/parts to implement (like nodes, splitters, etc.). This is the same Dish Network that wouldn't take my 200 bucks and let me upgrade to a 922 without a truck...

    922 upgrade without installer

I managed to convince them to send me a 722 back a few years ago. For the 922, they told me no. I threatened to cancel and switch to cable and they still said no. Not even Exec Relations could override it. As it sits, I'm kinda glad since I would probably want to switch to XiP anyway.

ESPN 3 avialability for DISH Netwrok Customers

It's a double edged sword for me. I have Time Warner for Internet and Dish for TV. I should qualify under Time Warner, but their system says if I don't get ESPN through cable, I don't get ESPN3. At the same time I get ESPN through Dish Network but I don't get ESPN3. I'm not going to switch...

    Charlie Steps Down

Not likely. InDemand is owned by a few cable companies and they're not interested in helping Satellite TV carry their native content. They could've offered this stuff on the Internet and to Satellite Carriers all this time (as Internet VOD). Howard's actually touched on this within the...

Eastern arc dish performance in bad weather

Once I re-aligned my 1000.4 with the Superbuddy it has been pretty much smooth sailing for me as well as for my brother. The only thing I learned is that it pays to make sure to peak on the peak transponders. Seems to have made all of the difference. 77 is still a no-show for me though. I...

    Retailer Chat Recap - January 13, 2011

They should just give me 10$ a month credit for a year. Basically for paying for Platinum, Starz, and getting encore as part of AT250, I'm gifted with 6 PPV coupons I'll never use (worth about 24$). Such a deal... not.

    oops!

I can't wait for Dish VOD because my Internet connection no longer sucks horribly.

    Dish.. Lets watch some TV.

Not here they aren't. Fairpoint New England is a DirecTV partner ( Television Service ), just like Verizon was. TDS Telecom is a Dish partner here though.

    NASA-TV HD Channel Official

I'm glad about this because I've always wanted NASA"s audio feed with the HD picture they give to HDNet. It sounds like we could have the best of both worlds soon if Dish picks this up.

    ACUTRAC III & DISH 500

Acutrac III works pretty well. No ID, as the other poster said, but it's decent to get the initial lineup for a multi-focal dish. I've had one for a while.

DISH Network/Weather Channel Reach Renewal Agreement

Off topic but won't happen. Howard TV is run by Indemand and InDemand is owned by the cable companies. It's technically possible, it'll just never happen.

    Dish Network Customer Service SUCKS!

I've always had good results with Dish Network as far as getting what I want, but I think there should be something called "Rules to being a good customer" to go along with "Rules to being a good business". I also tend to like the Online Chat because you can pretty much tell them what you want...

    61.5 HD Core Migrations Update

Could you use a 118.7 wing and have EA (61.5/72.7/77)? There's a LNB IN port on the EA dish to facilitate that kind of install. I'm surprised your locals weren't moved. I thought 118.7 was International only or something like that.

HIGH-TECH COMPANIES ISSUE STATEMENT ON OPEN INTERNET RULES

Closing underage porn sites, hacker sites, etc. makes much more sense than the government blocking them. When I worked in education, they used web filters (by requirement for a government subsidized Internet program). Here's the highlights - 1> It seems just about everyone that was an...

HIGH-TECH COMPANIES ISSUE STATEMENT ON OPEN INTERNET RULES

I hope people do fight statewide bans of such things. Anyone should be able to put anything they want on the poles as far as I'm concerned, as long as they're willing to pay the fees associated with doing so. If I recall CenturyTel (former Embarq) has a presence in part of NC too. Not as big...

HIGH-TECH COMPANIES ISSUE STATEMENT ON OPEN INTERNET RULES

Luckily in a lot of markets, that 'block' attempt by the incumbents hasn't worked. FIOS has won. However, Verizon isn't going to go string anywhere with low housing density, low mean income, or low population. AT&T probably won't with U-Verse either. It's expensive to deploy these...

HIGH-TECH COMPANIES ISSUE STATEMENT ON OPEN INTERNET RULES

Strike that, misread what you said. Exactly where are we talking about here? City/state?

HIGH-TECH COMPANIES ISSUE STATEMENT ON OPEN INTERNET RULES

Even though here I can choose from other power companies for my supply, my 'distribution' is still the same supplier. I suspect if the 'monopoly distributor' is having power problems, you'd still have rolling blackouts no matter who your 'supply provider' is. I'm in a Fairpoint New England...

HIGH-TECH COMPANIES ISSUE STATEMENT ON OPEN INTERNET RULES

This could go either way really. We deregulated electricity in this state a while ago and all it guaranteed was that we pay more, between distribution cost and then the actual power. The 'distribution cost' is now significantly more than the integrated cost of the monopoly. I've nothing...

HIGH-TECH COMPANIES ISSUE STATEMENT ON OPEN INTERNET RULES

Comcast wasn't regulating access to certain sites. What they were doing is they were throttling speed of Biitorrent during high loads, a largely upload-bandwidth centric service. I view a problem with how they went about it and their lack of transparency in talking about it. They were...

    ViP 922 Technician Install - $95

It's not about the money, it's about the mandatory technician dropping by to exchange a box that is already in place. The cable company will just hand me boxes all day long if I drop by their office. I'm not terribly interested in taking time off from work and losing money just because it's...

    ViP 922 Technician Install - $95

Dish Exec Relations called me yesterday, said I was out of luck and I would have to take the technician visit if I wanted a 922. They didn't seem to care much that I wouldn't need a tech visit to subscribe to cable or that I'm not home during business hours. I'd just buy a damned 922 if they...

    ViP 922 Technician Install - $95

Right. Also the fact I'm never here during their installer's hours anyway, which was my point to them last time. They were pretty cool about it. They've misplaced my email before so I will send them another one on Monday if I don't hear anything back.

    ViP 922 Technician Install - $95

Correct. Last time they let me do this when I upgraded to HD (2xVIP211 1xVIP722) a few years ago. I can't see why they'd not let me do it for a 922.

    ViP 922 Technician Install - $95

Way cheaper? I only have one DVR. Basically I'm aiming to trade out an original 722 for a 922 for 200$ one-time and 4$ a month more. I don't view this as a bad deal.
