    D12... I want everyone's feelings on this.

^^ I don't know. Maybe the addition of D12 will allow DirecTV to boost the power output on their existing Ka low transponder licenses and they can increase bandwidth through modulation changes (i.e. 8PSK).

    DirecTV-2-PC Public Beta

HDCP is only required if you're going to a digital output. Analog VGA works just fine, but I think it causes some content to be downrezed to 960x540 to comply with Hollywood.

    DirecTV-2-PC Public Beta

Your PC is a piece of junk as far as mpeg4 decoding goes. It's very conspicuous that you did not mention a graphics card specification. I'll assume you have Intel "Extreme" Graphics (what a joke) or some similar integrated entry level graphics processor. The mpeg4 avc algorithm is very complex...

Locals Moving from 72.5 in Wausau, WI Market

I think some people think (say that aloud three times) that DirecTV will temporarily run some of the 72.5 markets on the 110 and 119 conus transponders vacated by the mpeg4 HD conversion as the cost and available inventory of mpeg4 boxes/5LNB dishes is prohibitive for a full dish/receiver swap...

With Dish launching EA on 72.7, did DTV turn off 72.5?

The 72 degrees DBS slot was assigned by the ITU to Canada. DirecTV leased the frequencies for the even transponders from Canada. Echostar leased the frequencies for the odd transponders from Canada. The are happily co-located and operating within regulated interference of each other just...

Is there reason to worry for ESPNU HD?

DirecTV has (and we can assume wants) ESPNU in their Sports Pack that cost $12 extra per month. We can assume that ESPN wants ESPNU in the base package and is willing to hardball the HD feed to get it there. After this drags out for a while ESPNU ends up in the middle tier, Choice Xtra, and...

With Dish launching EA on 72.7, did DTV turn off 72.5?

It is the same orbital location and the DBS frequencies are indeed shared. DirecTV is currently using all of the even transponders and Dish is currently using all of the odd transponders.

    103 Satellite ?

My understanding from some of the folks that keep up with all the FCC filings, etc. over at DBSTalk was that 17 and 22 were backup transponders that were temporarily lit until D11 came online. All the channels on those two transponders have deliberately moved over to D11 over the past several...

directv and dish network rumored to be in merger talks!!!

“In terms of the merger with EchoStar, we really have nothing new to say,” Carey said. “I don’t know whether The Journal needed to fill a page or what, but I have nothing. There’s really nothing.” DirecTV’s Carey Disses Dish Merger Talk - 8/7/2008 2:35:00 PM - Multichannel News

Those of you who have switched from Dish to D*

Do you mean USB wireless adapters are supported now? I know wireless bridges (i.e. game adapters) have worked since the first public CE beta of DirecTV On Demand because I'm using one. :)

Those of you who have switched from Dish to D*

3 HDTVs is hardly top hat and monocle territory anymore. If you include monitors with HDCP support, neither is 4 or 5.

    Is Directv DVRs that bad?

Last time I checked 70s on a poorly aligned DirecTV 5lnb dish are still better than the 30s on a perfectly aligned Dish 1000.

ZDNet Article "DirecTV... Make Products Work"

To be fair, I've never experienced a Dish HD DVR, because I don't know anybody with a Dish HD system as they have basically decided against competing in the Las Vegas market (missing SD locals, no HD locals). Your claim that the only users who like it have never experienced another provider is...

    Is Directv DVRs that bad?

What's so great about the Dish Network DVRs? AFAIK, their main feature over DirecTV (and cable for that matter) are PIP/secondary output. Sure that would be great for Sunday Ticket, but I don't really how that (or any other features their DVRs have) override the absence of any real VOD support.

    Is Directv DVRs that bad?

Do you have adequate airflow to you entertainment center? I sounds like something is covering the vents and it's overheating. In the 13 months I've had my HR20-700 I've never had a major issue. Excepting CE testing some known pathological behavior, I don't think I've pressed the reset button...

    XM Radio on D*

    1. Enough people that digital audio is a necessary feature for every cable and satellite provider. 2. Not really. If the audio is as 192kbps, you would need to remove about 15 audio streams for just one SD video channel. 3. Step on board the a-la-carte bandwagon.

E* Takes HD Dump.. How does this effect D*.

IIRC, DirecTV is reported to run 5 mpeg4 HD per 38 Mbps transponder = 7.6 Mbps Dish Network is reported to run 7 mpeg4 HD per 43 Mbps trans ponder = 6.1 Mbps

E* Takes HD Dump.. How does this effect D*.

And...how does E* have room in any of their birds? If D* is squeezing all they can out of D10 than E* is packing their satellite like a clown car. Unless E* magically got more satellites and transponder licenses, you've got to believe that D* could probably add another 50 channels at the...
