You all realize that the HR20 for one never "shuts off" per se. All you do when you push the power button is put it in standby. As long as it's got power coming to it, it's "running". The hard drive is what's always running.......

I've got a laptop cooling pad turned upside down set on top of my HR20. It works great! Sucks up through the unit. Keeps the temp anywhere from 99 to 105, depending on the temp of the house. It's in an open front enclosure with a couple 2" diameter holes cut in the rear of it for running the...

For whatever reason, all of my service and install appts. from D* have been scheduled for a Sunday over the years. This is not because I wasn't available to be there during the week either. All have been on time within a reasonable variance. All but one have been very good at the install/service.

About a year ago I was quoted $95.00 from an excellent installer that would also give my wiring a good checkup too. So $100.00 sounds about right......

If you can see 101, 110 & 119 with your current 3lnb dish you should be alright with the 5lnb slimline. The "old" HD channels were available on the 3lnb dish. The "new" HD channels are on 103b. So, if you can see 101 & 110, you can get the new HD's with the slimline and Mpeg-4 receiver(s) off 103b.

All the new HD is coming from 103b. What are your signal strengths on it. Check both tuners. Almost sounds like you may need to have your dish peaked by a tech. Or yourself if you're handy with the tools and can get someone to help.

When you hit the off button, all your telling the HR20 is that "I'm done with you for now, see ya later!" The HDD always runs waiting for the next assignment...... By the way. It's best for the unit to be at least on a good surge supressor, better yet if it's on a battery backup setup.

Sounds good as far as I'm concerned. But the sports channels are a waste of sat. space to me. But I understand some people are hooked on it.......

External HD upgrade is the way to go. As was stated above, the 750gb Seagates w/5yr warranty, were on sale this week at Best Buy for $199. Only way to go as far as I'm concerned. Just plug in, restart, and play! Simple. You'll find the switch to the D* software is simple and very easy to get...

How is 231-1 inconvenient??? Just put 231-1 in your guide list, eliminate 231.
