New install questions (how many lines from HD sat, multiswitch, etc.)

No 4x8 multi-switch... Slimline is only compatible with the Zinwell 6x8 (or 6x16) multi-switch. And you will need all four lines coming into the house...

    Directv extra receiver box

Honestly, it might be cheaper and more cost efficient in the long run if you were to just get the receiver directly from Directv. Either way, you'd be paying $5.00 extra per month on the second receiver... $5/lease fee (for their receiver)as opposed to $5/programming fee (for an "owned"...

    Installation quesstion!

Eddie's right... to a degree. You absolutely CANNOT use a splitter for D* receivers regardless. On the other hand, if you don't wanna pay to have the line ran, and you don't wanna do it yourself... you could leave just the one cable from the wall-jack running in the Sat 1 tuner. Only problem...

    Skip, skip, skip...

Whether it was frame-rate or not, I have had this "jumping" in the past with my ABC affiliate. I seem to recall it happens more often than not when trying to watch their "Wonderful World of Disney" specials. And you're right, it isn't a satellite issue... probably has more to do with the...

    Skip, skip, skip...

Out of curiousity... what local affiliate were you watching? I noticed in the past, with ABC in particular, that the frame-rate wasn't quite right... maybe it was just me?

    Newbe needs information

The only reason you might need the 3-LNB ODU anymore is if you wanted Spanish Programming... D*s HD feed USED to come through the Triple-Sat, but with the launch of all the new programming, the SlimLine took over that. On top of that, instead of looking to the sky for ONE satellite (Dual LNB @...

    Newbe needs information

Yeah, it pretty much IS that simple... is your receiver Hi-Def or standard? If it's standard definition, you could probably just get the standard 18" ODU (Dish), your tripod, and your run of cable... and be good to go~

    Newbe needs information

Welcome to the Site :) As for equipment... do you already HAVE service w/ Directv? If so, what kind of receiver (set-top box) do you have?

    Whatever happened to the FTM???

According to our FSM from D* (I'm an installer for a local HSP), technicians won't have any say-so regarding who gets a SWM or not... I don't know about any of the other sub companies, but we're restricted to using ONLY what is on our work orders. And if that unit costs THAT much, I really...

    ALL HD channels

Channel 77 would be your best bet... unless of course you want something you can print off as reference.

What is included in the DirecTv "Free Install"?

Wall-fishing rates are the same for my HSP... $37.50/half hour, with a 1-hour minimum.

    HR21/ HDMI problem

There seems to be compatibility issues with some Samsungs and the HD boxes. I've encountered it myself many times out in the field. I'm not sure there IS a fix for this problem. I could be wrong though...

Moved and now having signal issues

To do a hard reset... unplug it - wait 10-15 seconds plug it back in. Sometimes this is necessary with dvrs... especially if you didn't hook up everything before plugging it in. And what do you mean by "destacker"?

Moved and now having signal issues

Have you tried reseting the receiver? Also, try connecting the cable to the Satellite 2 input? And if THAT doesn't work, I'd make double-sure that your cable isn't crimped in the doorway. If those don't help, it just MIGHT be the receiver itself.

    RG6 cable

Oops! Forgive me.... I do think I may have you confused with another member posting on here ;) Good luck with your installation regardless!! I'm sure you'll make some lucky technician VERY happy!!

    RG6 cable

Just out of curiousity, erict... when IS your install scheduled? I happen to be a technician for the local HSP here in Erie, and after following your previous post (about the 2" pole...) and now this one, I'm kinda hoping that I'M the one that rolls out there!! Is this a new installation, or...

    DirecTV "Moving" Question

Something to consider... wherever you "move" to HAS to be in spotbeam of the area you wish you get your locals from. Outside of that conus, your "move" will be for naught.

    5lnb dish install

Are you planning on doing the entire install yourself? I would THINK that if you were a brand-new customer, the installation would be FREE. And speaking from a technicians standpoint, most HSP's/DMA's probably carry the 2" pole standard on their vans. I would think if you were to do most of...

NEED HELP... Can't get my DTV dialed in

I suppose it COULD be a bad LNB, but I think chances of that happening are slim. Please DO keep me posted... and good luck, friend :)

NEED HELP... Can't get my DTV dialed in

I would think running the fourth line would fix your problem. Does your DVR have two lines running to it already? Also, for trouble shooting purposes... if you have a barrel/connector, you could try connecting the line(s) running from the dish DIRECTLY to the line(s) to your HD/DVR completely...

NEED HELP... Can't get my DTV dialed in

Yes, you need four lines for that multiswitch... 2 to the DVR, and 1 each to your standard HD receivers. Also, are you sure you have the RIGHT dish? The slimline is appx. 3-ft. wide and actually SAYS "Slimline" on it.... But the 4 lines is a definite. <a...

NEED HELP... Can't get my DTV dialed in

3 lines? There should be a MINIMUM of 4 lines coming from the dish and into the first four ports on the multiswitch (ignore the flex-ports). You sure there isn't 4? As for the diplexers, they are little boxes that look a lot like splitters 'cept you use them to combine 2 signals (i.e...
