    New HD Channels Are On

Ok, IF I decided to go back to D*, which I may do if AT&T buys E*, will my old AT-9 dish be all I need?

    Moffett Mocks DirecTV's HDTV Claims

I think that's why I appreciate E*'s "all action no words" approach so much.

How can E* keep adding HD?

At least that's what Captain Kirk and the scientist from Back to The Future say. So far it's been a lot of TV commercials and no action from D*. That's why I left them last year. :eureka

    When to Switch?

I would wait until D* actually does something before you switch. So far D* has been nothing but talk. Also, if Sunday Ticket is a big deal to you, wait until they unveil a Sunday Ticket promo in the next couple of months. In the meantime, enjoy the greater variety of HD that you already have.

NBC PQ is BS. Who's fault?

OTA in Atlanta stunk yesterday as well.

How bad is DBS HD compared to OTA HD???

Although I recently switched from D*, I must say, they seemed to have worked out the issues with the HD locals, at least here in Atlanta. I couldn't tell a difference between them and my OTA.

    Need Advice On Switching Provider

I was about eight months into a two year commitment when I dropped D* for E*. They charged me $40 for "receiver recovery" (basically shipping costs). They sent me Fed-ex boxes to send my H20 and Tivo receivers back to them. Well worth it to me.

Direct TV fails to provide HD " A TECHNOLOGY FAILURE"

Although I recently switched to E* from D*, I have to give D* credit for doing a good job on the HD locals, at least in the Atlanta market. There were some issues (mainly audio) the first few months but they corrected them, and the video quality was comparable to my OTA.

Direct TV fails to provide HD " A TECHNOLOGY FAILURE"

I was about 8 months into a 2 year agreement. I think I was charged $40 for "receiver recovery." Basically, shipping charges. It was well worth it to me.:up

Direct TV fails to provide HD " A TECHNOLOGY FAILURE"

Don't let the agreement thing keep you from doing something if you want to. As long as you return the receiver(s) that led to the agreement, you can do what you want. I did.:up

    Looking at my options

If Sunday Ticket isn't critical, I'd switch to E*. I switched about a week ago and have no regrets.

    hi-def

It costs money to provide it. Otherwise, buy an OTA antenna. Then it will be free.

    future HD channels

No, I meant hopefully Directv will have more going for it than ST.

    future HD channels

Nobody knows because D* keeps everyone in the dark, including their CSRs. I finally lost patience with them and signed up with E*. You'll find that D*'s HD offerings are light in more ways than one. Read around, you'll see what I mean. IMO, Sunday Ticket is the only thing D* has going for it...

What the heck up with D* vs Dish re: HD

Went ahead and pulled the trigger today. Bye-bye D*, hello E*. I'm getting the 622 installed next Monday.:p

    Someone Should Tell DirecTv...

I would hope D* comes back with more than this. Plus, hasn't E* already announced that they'll have all of the regional sports stuff in HD later this year? D*, you have been severely cut. You're going to need more than a band-aid.

    Someone Should Tell DirecTv...

I told them earlier this week. I started telling them all the channels E* has. When I mentioned Voom they said, "Yeah, one of the Voom channels is all cartoons. Who wants to watch HD cartoons?" They are seriously out of touch. I'm going to try and be patient with them through this year... maybe.:D

    Dumb Question re HD Locals

lou_do is right. Leave your antenna up to make sure your happy with D*'s version of HD locals. I'm in Atlanta and have not been happy with them. I'm getting an antenna put in my attic next week for OTA.

    ANOTHER D* vs E*

The difference is huge. I'm investigating attic antenna options for OTA reception. I was excited when D* offered Atlanta locals without the antenna. Now I realize that I should have gone ahead with OTA. Seriously, D*'s HD LIL looks like 16x9, 480p at best.

    ANOTHER D* vs E*

If I were in your situation, I'd go with Dish and the 18 month commitment. Maybe in 18 months, D* will become the HD leader they claim to be. Then switch if they are.

    ANOTHER D* vs E*

Just got off the phone with D* regarding their HD offerings vs. E*'s. I wanted them to tell me why I shouldn't switch to E* given their better PQ and selection. All they offered was weak excuses. Here are some of the direct quotes: "Sure they have Voom but why would you want to watch cartoons in...

    New Channels???

It wouldn't surprise me if MHD (MTV-HD) was the next channel. Especially, since they'd be able to say that Dish doesn't have it, even if the channel stinks.
