    What do you think ?

I can see the advantage for hard-core sports fans and those who can't get cable at all or just have a terrible cable company. But my bill for Charter's mid-level package plus HBO/SHO/MAX, one 4-tuner DVR and 5 Minis is $80. Last time I checked, the same with DirecTV would run me $57 in DVR and...

    What do you think ?

Total expense. You are paying for the dish and install one way or another, even though it's "free" via longer contracts and higher fees. In my market, cable beats sat in almost every respect. It would cost me about $80 more per month to replace my package and 5 TV TiVo system with sat. Plus...

    What do you think ?

Can't disagree with any, but some are a stretch or apply to all providers. Bottom line, sat will always has and always will be more complex and expensive than cable.

MOCA, Ethernet Or 802.11 AC WIFI Which Is Better?

They use both ethernet and Moca today because not everyone has one or the other. Dropping one of them wouldn't make any sense. As for which one is better, that would be the one for which you actually have physical wires. Moca is completely useless if you have no coax. Same goes for ethernet...

I Have A Question or 2 About DirecTV HD DVR

    Accusation? Freudian slip?
  6. M

    Lots of questions...

Conflict handling is very good. It will tell you every step of the way. In my experience it will indeed try to record channels you don't get unless you tell it otherwise. Not sure how to handle that with the team thing. VOD is typically not what I would call stellar in terms of bitrate...

When Will DTV Start Adding UVerseTV Channels?

If you have satellite tv, you need to add an OTA tuner and antenna. Dish and DirecTV will most likely never carry them.

    Programing Genie remote

RF on those old remotes won't work on the 44, but IR still should.

    Negotiating power?

Charter has a new streaming TV package too for under $20. Includes HBO, your locals and a few others. Runs on a Roku which they give you for free. But it's live TV only, no DVR capability (similar to SlingTV). But you do get HBO GO which is on demand and access to each provider's streaming...

    Programing Genie remote

Nevo C2 is just as good as or better than Harmony One, 650, 700 and only $16 on ebay. Program it via the web like Harmony or via Remote Master (much better). Check out the awesomeness: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/93-remote-control-area/2118050-best-remote-control-wmc-roku-3-a.html#post36913554...

Switch to DirecTV a good idea?

My 2 cents. I've had Uverse, DirecTV, Dish and Charter. In my market, Charter is far cheaper than satellite and has far more HD (about 80 more channels) and fewer programming disputes. Cable reliability is very high, but I never had significant problems with satellite either. In the southeast...

    RC72 Remote Control

They do work, and they look nice. But they suck. If you're itching to get a new remote, get a nice universal one for about the same price.

Alternative to a Directv decca or cinema connection kit

I've been using Deca since the beginning and still use it today even though I dropped DirecTV years ago. Never had any of them fail. Maybe something else is going on in your system that's causing them to fail prematurely (wiring problem, bad SWM power supply, bad router, etc.). I hope you're...

Switching from dish to direct tv. How exactly do I go about it?

They have free and paid versions, I think. I've only ever used the free version.

Switching from dish to direct tv. How exactly do I go about it?

I guess I should clarify a little. DirecTV does have music channels with decent content. But the sound quality is terrible. However, I've also heard the same horrible quality on satellite radio. So if you don't mind it, Sonic Crap may work. You'll just have to try it for yourself. The thing I...

Switching from dish to direct tv. How exactly do I go about it?

It is not. Sirius / XM was dropped by DirecTV years ago. You get Sonic Crap which is worse than no music channels at all. Switch to Spotify.

Switching from dish to direct tv. How exactly do I go about it?

Yeah, I've used that excuse too. Luckily, I live not too far from a gigantic Dish distribution center, so I was able to just drop off my old equipment and avoid the shipping charges. They didn't like it, but they accepted my returns. Glad to be rid of them and DirecTV.

Switching from dish to direct tv. How exactly do I go about it?

Yes and yes. And unlike DirecTV, Dish makes you pay the return shipping and asks for the LNB off the dish.

Current Non DVR Direct TV Receiver

If you follow the above link, there is a table that makes it more clear. What's so confusing is it's a lot different than it used to be. New customers pay $6.50 for each box, no matter what it is. First box is no longer free. There is one $15 fee if there are any DVRs on the account (wouldn't...

Considering Switch Back to DTV - Worth the Change?

I assume you realize the monthly fees for Genie are far more than Tivo and that you'd save a lot by getting lifetime instead of subscription. I would stick with Tivo.

Want DirecTV & FiOS Internet. Is this viable?

@ lovswr Gotcha. I would still consider keeping Fios for TV and going all Tivo for ease of use if you're tired of HTPC. The Roamio isn't bad and would probably be cheaper in the long run.

Want DirecTV & FiOS Internet. Is this viable?

May I ask why you prefer DirecTV's inferior picture quality to Fios, especially for SD programming? If I could get Fios, I'd go all in. Plus, with a cable card tuner on Fios, you avoid a ton of charges you'd otherwise pay on DirecTV. In my 5 TV household, using cable card tuners and my own boxes...

Record from DVD player to directv receiver

http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/directv/technology/mediashare But don't get too excited. Unless things have changed dramatically, DirecTV has the worst DLNA client I've ever seen. Whatever client you're using already is far better.

Record from DVD player to directv receiver

Here's a way to do it, sort of. Since the goal is to watch the DVD through your other DirecTV boxes, you could simply rip it onto your PC, then use DLNA to view on your boxes. Can't exactly pop in a DVD anytime and watch it immediately, but in only takes a few minutes to rip one. So pop it in...

Another beef... I kinda wish that all stations in native HD ARE IN HD on DirecTV...

OMG! I think you're right! I just played a few recordings I made in the past few days and the bitrate is way up, and there's visible film grain I've never seen before on TCM. This is fantastic. I can start recording a lot more things on TCM now. Thanks for the heads up.
