Actually, I have noticed increased picture quality lately. There seems to be less pixilation during action scenes with explosions and the like.

I got it for a while and used it to plan my month's movie recording. Then I cancelled the premiums for a couple of months and did not resubscribe to the magazine. I did like it and find it useful, but I'm doing OK without it.

You've got to be kidding. We pay good money for our premium channels and deserve the HD versions, as opposed to the pedestrian channels you listed.

And your family member will probably either be asked to return that receiver, or charged a few hundred dollars for it. 99% of us pay a "lease upgrade" fee when we get a receiver and don't really "own" it. To actually purchase a receiver costs, again, a few hundred dollars.
