As a Blu-Ray supporter I have to say I agree with most of the article. If BD wants to grow at the rate they are hoping, they've got to get more aggressive. At the same time, I don't think it's time to sound the alarm bell yet. If things haven't picked up considerably after this holiday buying...

First of all, thanks to everyone for the replies. I think there's a lot of good insight in this thread. Regarding haertig's post, these are some very interesting points. IMHO the thing that could hurt BD the most is not downloads or HD VOD but the incremental factor he mentioned.

I'm not taking a jab here I'm actually asking this seriously. As a former HD-DVD supporter, are you now hoping that BD will fail or become nothing more than a niche format? If so, why? Again, I'm only looking for genuine answers please.

Many former HD-DVD supporters are in upset that they weren't able to pick the winner in the format war. I think many of them believe that if BD doesn't completely dominate the home entertainment market over the next few years that it will somehow mean that they have ultimately ''won'' their own...

What was the first nail in the coffin for BD? The funny thing is, all of those people declaring nails in the coffin for HD-DVD months ago...actually turned out to be correct.

I can't believe how many people are still hoping and praying for Blu-Ray to fail. Move on for goodness sake. If you hate Blu-Ray and will never buy a disc or player that's fine but rooting for BD to fail out of spite and sour grapes seems a bit childish. At this point the only remaining...

You mean the Xbox 360 add on? Microsoft and BDA are currently in negotiations to create a BD drive for microsoft gaming consoles, I don't know what the price will be. If you're asking whether it will take a while for BD hardware prices to catch up to HD hardware prices the answer is yes...

Standalone BD player prices will be <$300 by Christmas this year and <$200 by Christmas '09.
