    Windows 10 installed

Thanks. I'll have to do some more rebooting. Also wondering about this. I found this article from CNET also about doing a clean install of Windows 10: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/clean-install-windows-10/ But the directions are different. I'm specifically looking under the "For a system...

    Windows 10 installed

Me too actually. Not only that but File Explorer actually froze on me and I had to get rid of it with the Task Manager. I don't remember that happening even once with File Explorer in Windows 8 and 8.1. Do you guys think doing a clean install on Windows 10 would fix that? Because I just did...

    Windows 10 installed

So about this security problem where it broadcasts your wifi password: http://www.redmondpie.com/disable-wi-fi-sense-password-sharing-in-windows-10-heres-how/ I set both options to off in wi-fi sense and then changed my wifi password. Is that enough? Do I really still need to change the end...

Microsoft warns of Internet Explorer security gap

Has Microsoft put out the patch for this already or should I still avoid IE? Because I ran Windows Update and it downloaded and installed this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2961887

Windows 8.1 Update 1 released, now available for download

I know I'm behind here. I'm currently using Windows 8. I recently realized there's a Windows 8.1 and now a Windows 8.1 update 1. Is it okay if I stay with Windows 8 or should I go through the hassle and do the 2 updates?

    Questions about interchanging cords

Quick computer hardware question here. Are power cords for computer monitors interchangeable? I just got a new computer monitor but the power cord that comes with it runs tight on my setup. My old broken monitor has a longer power cord. (They're both the 3-prong cord.) Can I use that...

    Is my router dying?

I have AT&T Uverse Internet so AT&T gave me a router (that also doubles as a modem). I noticed every time it reboots (ie. the power goes off in my neighborhood and then comes back on), my speed almost always comes back slower and it never goes back to the speed it was before. I have AT&T's...

Need Advice on Buying a New Laptop

What would you consider a decent sized SSD? For personal use mostly at home. I'm looking to replace my desktop which is kind of old. So probably just web browsing and watching Netflix and Hulu. Not for gaming. I asked about the processor in my original post because the one thing I hate...

Need Advice on Buying a New Laptop

Thanks for that IIya and everyone else. What about screen size? I read that 15.6" is the standard but it's a laptop so I understand it's supposed to be small. What screen size are you guys comfortable with for laptops?

AT&T will cap DSL and U-Verse internet, impose overage fees (update)

From AT&T's Website, http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB409045#fbid=82DGrPi0s6x: I wish it was a real-time bandwidth meter. I only have DSL so I'm working with the 150 GB cap. I did download some free bandwidth meters off the Internet yesterday but I cannot find one that will...

AT&T will cap DSL and U-Verse internet, impose overage fees (update)

I just have DSL with a UVerse router. Anybody know if this UVerse router has a bandwidth meter and if I could check it and reset it so I could count exactly how much I'm using per month? I guess I could download a bandwidth meter from the internet but I'm guessing that wouldn't count the usage...

Internet Connection Speed Slow after OS re-install

Thanks for the idea. I hadn't thought of that. Anyways, I called AT&T and they pretty much said they're fazing out all the old DSL routers and had me switch to a UVerse router which they're sending me this week so I hope that was the problem but we'll see.

Internet Connection Speed Slow after OS re-install

Thanks. I'll look into that. I got an Xbox 360 relatively recently. Do you think that could have something to do with it? I also use it as an extender. But I use speedtest.net when the Xbox is off so both Xbox Live and the extender capability, I assume, aren't running so I don't see how it...

Internet Connection Speed Slow after OS re-install

Okay this is driving me a little crazy and I know it shouldn't. But since I reinstalled Windows Vista on my desktop PC a few weeks ago my internet speed has gone considerably slower than before. I'm using an Ethernet cable with an AT&T router. I used to get around 2.55 mbps. Now I only get...

Ethernet light turns off on router

Speaking of which, how do I prevent the power supply from going bad again or rather maximize the life of the power supply? I just want to take preventive measures.

Ethernet light turns off on router

Okay, I just have to ask the opposite question now. I got my computer back and the ethernet light on my router is always on when I turn the computer off. So don't worry about it correct? It doesn't drain power from the computer or anything like that right? Because I think it was the power...

Ethernet light turns off on router

Okay, here's the story, a few weeks ago when I got up in the morning, I noticed the Ethernet light was off on my router which was unusual because it's always stayed on when I turn off my computer (which I do before I go to sleep every night). All the other lights on my router were still on. So...

    Rewritable DVD Drives

Thanks for those tips. I'll definitely look into them. I'm almost sure it's the disc that's shot not my DVD drive since I just formatted another blank Memorex DVD+RW to test it out and it works just fine, saving, editing, and deleting files. I've been editing spreadsheets and a text file...

    Rewritable DVD Drives

Okay, I need a little help. I have this DVD+RW disc that I use to save stuff daily. Work I've done and other things. Well today I put it in and the disc keeps on spinning and won't stop and I can't get access to the data on the disc. There's some important data on the disc that I'd like...

Official LonghornXP review of Vista preloaded on new PC:

Yeah I also was wondering what Startup Programs can I safely disable so my bootup time is faster (I found the list of Startup Programs in Vista in Windows Defender in the Software Explorer link)? I mean what Startup Programs are unnecessary.

Why is that better than the recovery disk? Is it because the recovery disk installs a lot of unnecesary junk?

Official LonghornXP review of Vista preloaded on new PC:

Thanks for the review, Longhorn. My computer is almost the same as yours. It's a different model (HP m7760n) but a lot of the specifications are similar. My computer also has an Intel Dual Core 2 Ghz. 2 GB of RAM. 500 GB hard drive. Lightscribe DVD burner. Pre-installed Windows Vista Home...
