I've been playing around with my Mac Studio for about a month. it will take some time for everyone to update their code to support the M1 properly, but I'm pretty impressed so far.

If you can find one with the configuration you want, the refurb devices are a pretty good deal.

I've also been using the Ecobee 3. I've never had any issues with it.

Depending on what you do with it, it could still be faster than the iMac Pro. Not all apps support multiple cores well.

I recently upgraded to an iMac Pro to help speed up the 3D modeling work I do. Is anyone else here running one? What do you think are “must have” apps for it?

Yeah, that's one feature I wish was included with the iMac Pro. The whole machine needs to be torn down to change the amount of ram. With 32GB on the base model it's doubtful I'll need more for what I do but it's nice to know it's easily addressable. -sigh-

Probably. There are different filaments for all sorts of different uses. It sounds like maybe PETG or one of the nylon filaments might work well.

There are a lot of places online to download part files from, http://www.thingiverse.com is probably the biggest. If you can't find the part you need to create it in a 3D modeling program.

3D printers are as practical as the person running them. You are only limited by your imagination. In addition to the models that i build, I've used my printer to create parts to repair items that are no longer manufactured and have no source for spares.

If there isn't a library or maker space with access to 3D printers in your area then you might try getting one of the many kits available and build your own. It's not terribly difficult to do. The original Prusa kits are a bit more than some of the cut rate stuff but they are much higher...

Another current project is The Mobile Launch Platform for the Saturn V rocket to be used as a display stand for my 1/64 scale model.

There will be some sore of clear plastic in the windows. Lexan is kind of difficult to glue but it may end p being what I use. I use a couple of different design tools. Cheetah 3D, Shade 3d and Fusion 360 depending on what I'm doing.

I'm just curious if anyone else is working with 3D printers. I've got two that I designed and built that I'm having a lot of fun with. I printed this 8 foot long model of the USS Discovery from the movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey."
