    New channels coming soon?

Let's all try to act a little adult. No one likes the idea of losing a major HD content provider, even the thought of it is demoralizing, but let's all try to have a rationale debate without involvement of personalities. Debate can be heated, compelling, and even ignore plain facts as long...

Voom no mpeg4 at CES 2005?????

I was told that MPEG-4 is up and working on a test channel at Voom. I was interested in the earlier announcement about WMV9, but only MPEG was addressed. I think I mentioned that the early DVRs will still have the slot for MPEG-4, but it will built into all STBs/DVRs mid year. The...

    Voom New Channels

Since they added almost every premium HD channel with the exception of a Sports pissing contest (HDnet) and a Cable monopoly (InHD). There are a few SD missing, but that really isn't the point of Voom. I would love more HD channels, but the content has to be there, even if the bandwidth was...

VOOM Cries Foul Over INHD and INHD2

I forgot how everything regarding sears was very accurate, that said I stand corrected "subject to agreement with programming providers" :)

VOOM Cries Foul Over INHD and INHD2

Actually it wasn't promissed to subs. It was found in hidden HTML pages on a pre-release programming schedule, but I don't remember any commitment of InHD to subs. While Cuban can be petulant with "his" HD channels because of non-HD personality conflicts with Dolan (mostly sports related), a...

HDTV Magazine Program Guide (Includes VOOM)

Ditto. Glad I was an early coinvert. The customized guide lets me combine Voom (my first/best HD source), + DirecTivo HDnet + Locals + Comcast sources in a ligned up prioritized/customized guide. Very cool/useful. Make sure you Allow Popups when editing (particullarly adding channels &...

Who is going to Win the HD War?

DirecTV lost IMHO. LIL killed SD resolution. LIL HD at compressed rates is pointless. Now starting to regret my HDtivo purchase for timeshifting. I think there are two premium markets for HD-centric services: 1) Movies, 2) Sports. I think a comprehensive package of either could undercut...

    Mark Cuban and VOOM??

As someone who just re-subbed to DirecTV in addition to Voom just to get HDnet, holding it out for it is just plain silly. It isn't an issue of economics, it's just shortsighted to pass up Voom for one or two stations, particularly ones that will never come to Voom, in my subjective opinion.

    Mark Cuban and VOOM??

Cablevision = Northeast Sports & executive personalities Cuban = SW sports and executive personalities' A sports related pi$$ing contest means Voom subscribers don't get HDnet, et al. Petty, childish, and worse, unrelated to offering worlld class HD. It is almost enough to make a free...

I like VOOM but DTV makes me think twice (about their new offer)

OK, instead of addressing personalities, let's address facts. 1) DirecTV is very good about keeping tight lipped about changes. This is excellent (though at times frustrating) expectations management. Forum members w/ supposed inside tracks (on dozens of different forums) are not...

Good News And Bad News...wow!!! (All Coming from CSR. Take it as you will)

Who knows what additional compression artifacts/anomalies will be introduced with the newer codecs. The idea in turning up the PQ by leaving bandwidth consistent is an unlikely business model (a good customer model, but an unlikely business model). That said, and with a bigger screen than...

Good News And Bad News...wow!!! (All Coming from CSR. Take it as you will)

A 250GB + 300GB HD does 70hours of HD (mine does), so with 400GB drives it's not that outlandish.

Mass Exodus from Voom to DirecTV in October?

And instead of using it for HD they would have planned locals for every minor market and every shopping channel ever contemplated. Seriously, in the tradeoffs game, combining the two was not and is not an antecedant for doing the right thing.

40 HD CHANNELS IS BETTER THAN RE-RUNS OF "HOGAN'S HEROES"

I agree. I love the unfolding content on the Cinemas (even if epics are not epics). By the way I'll take a B&W movie classic over short run HD sitcoms anyday (and I love Hogan's Heroes - It was a long run Bing Crosby production). In contrast to other posters, B&W DOES benefit from HD...

40 HD CHANNELS IS BETTER THAN RE-RUNS OF "HOGAN'S HEROES"

Funny I just bought an HD Tivo to compliment Voom and rember what a PVR is. Just have HD Pack & no premiums, primarily to get REAL EPICS on HDnet Movies (although glad to see Man Who Would be King also coming to Voom), but the PQ on that unit is very soft compared to Voom (which may be...

    Voom's PQ vs. HDNet Movies

Doubtful. I am typically a free market kinda' guy, but the root of the Dolan-Cuban animosity is the respective sports teams and venues they control. In a merit based world, the tangential differences would be ignored for HDnet to get more subs & vice versa. It's a win-win except for egos...

This new software is quirky and driving me crazy! My rant

Despite having one "glitch" requiring a softboot, which is one more than I had in the last version, this rev is a great incremental release. I think it is at least a 10:1 good vs bad experience. Just the OTA scanning is a big benefit. Hide any channels with low signal (other threads below 86)...
