Bye Bye SkyAngel
After the way they have treated their subscribers, lifetime and otherwise, I would not do business with this outfit again. However, I went to their website and ran their connection test. Although I pay for a 1.5Mbps connection it was running at about 1.3MBps when I performed...
I spent some time on the phone today with both SkyAngel and DishNet being bounced around from one extension to the other. Dealing with SkyAngel was like dealing with a brick wall. Something that anyone tempted to pay in advance for services or purchase a "lifetime" membership should remember...
When I visited my inlaws over Thanksgiving, I was talking to them about their FTA system vs Sky Angel. They said since Sky Angel had shut down they don't bother turning it on for just 3ABN since they get that on FTA. Their Sky Angel service had been turned off this past summer like many others...
I believe this very well could be the case. They turned mine on again after a couple of days, but they also turned on the "4 new channels" which I had declined. Now it will be interesting to see if I get a bill for them.
Yeah, I had the four "new" channels up until the moment I was deactivated. When I called to get re-activated they offered me the new channels which I declined. That's not why I have Sky Angel. (Besides I get them on DirecTV anyway).
A little after lunch today (July 14) all Sky Angel channels disappeared from my SA receiver. Just 3ABN and the Dishnet PPV and info channels remained. I called Dishnet (already suspecting the answer) and they said they had received a deactivation order for my "lifetime" account from Sky Angel...
I've noticed the last couple of weeks the audio quality has been pretty poor on some of the programming on Angel One. Its being overdriven somewhere and sounds clipped. Probably just on the programs I am recording. ;) But, I wondered if their first string engineers have jumped off the sinking...
Hughes Net is currently $299 for the install and the 512Kbps package is $59.99 a month. Still, pretty steep. Plus the "fair access policy" limits you to ~200MB/Hr. I don't know how much bandwidth an IPTV feed uses, but it may be close to that limit.
Well, 3 out of the 4 members in my church that have SA will not be following them to IPTV because we don't get broadband internet. I have WildBlue satellite, but the FAP limits would shut me down for extended viewing and I believe that is true for the other residential satellite internet...
I am looking at the 61.5 west bird with a dishnet receiver activated under Sky Angel and 3ABN is back on 9710. Spirit Music seems to be back now also, not just at nights.
Jpar,
I'm probably not too far from you, also in zip code 224. I have installed several sat systems and have a meter and other tools. Give me a PM if you want some hands on help.
Piece of cake! As luck would have it, I had to work late the first two days after my AdventistSat dish system came, but I got it up and running today. 3ABN is coming in at 99% on the quality meter and looks just great. LLBN peaks at about 82%.
The kit included everything I needed for the...
Thanks for the info! Yeah, self-install for sure. I have been "drinking from the firehose" the past week trying to get up to speed on what I need to do. I'm glad these forums exist for us newbies.
FedEx tracking shows my FTA system will arrive on Tuesday. I was oblivious to the existence of FTA, but became aware when 3ABN disappeared from Sky Angel. I've had my life membership in SA long enough that I got my money's worth out of it, even if they don't restore 3ABN. Still glad I have it.
A week ago, I knew nothing about FTA, but the disappearance of 3ABN has caused me to do a lil research and reading. Monday I will be ordering an FTA system. Obviously, other benefits than just receiving 3ABN, but that has been the trigger.
