Using microwave communications dish for Ku?

Correct that there would be no downconverter etc. I had planned to fabricate a mount for a LNBF.

Using microwave communications dish for Ku?

Not quite like that, but similar. I believe this one had a "radome" on it prior to being disassembled. I will post some pictures when I get to it. Just had some time to kill at work and figured I'd pose the question. It's getting to that time of year when I think about thinking about moving...

Using microwave communications dish for Ku?

I have obtained (through legitimate means) an approximately 3.5' Andrew microwave antenna which used to reside on a tower to provide point to point communications for a remote community. It still has the feedhorn in tact although it used a waveguide to feed the signal from the equipment in the...

Old, New User. Looking to restart and upgrade

Yes I had mine set up on the deck, a 1m dish on about a 8' pole, definitely pointing downward. Didn't look so good! I'm thinking of setting something up behind my garage where I have made a room for working on electronics and listening to music. Might have to get out the chainsaw again, we'll see!

Old, New User. Looking to restart and upgrade

Good advice. I was getting 30°W but had to cut a path through the bush for that. Might have better luck in another location I'm thinking of. I recall some good stuff there. Pretty much had a wide open sky for most North American satellites.

Old, New User. Looking to restart and upgrade

Pretty sure I have a 4 way diseqc switch maybe a couple, and the Ecoda 22Khz switch I'm sure I have. Maybe I don't need that much after all.........just some time to get things set up.

Old, New User. Looking to restart and upgrade

Been out of the FTA hobby for a few years now but I'm thinking of diving back in before the snow hits and getting something set up again. I have a few Ku band dishes, and know where there are a couple of other free ones. I also have one, maybe two 10' C band dishes and the space to set them up...

    Oh Darn........

Has it really been 2 years since all that started? How long have I been gone for? I think it was probably just a person or group of people with the right idea without the knowledge/finances to pull it off. In North America with the mainstream media being so prevalent and things like pizza dish...

    WGBH 44 or similar

Thanks for that. I told her to have a look at the schedule for OETA and see if she is interested in it. I think she would probably spring for a S2 capable receiver if she could get what she wanted with it. Cyberham, she does get BBC Canada but it seems there are shows on WGBH that are not...

    WGBH 44 or similar

I asked her what shows she was looking for and this was her response "British dramas and detective shows. Such as Inspector Lynley, Dalziel & Pasco, Frost, Midsomer Murders etc and also Brit-Coms". I don't see any of those on LPB. I will have to check the feeds on 125° for those.

    WGBH 44 or similar

I'll have to find out which shows she is looking for. All she told me is that on the main channel she sees ads for shows on 44 that she would like to watch. I should be able to catch either of the previously mentioned satellites from her house. For 125°W I might have to go off the garage roof...

    WGBH 44 or similar

I would like to find WGBH 44 which is a secondary Boston PBS station for my Mom. She gets the regular WGBH feed on her Bell satellite system but 44 is not available. I'm wondering if it is available on satellite, I did check The List but didn't find that channel directly. There are a lot of PBS...

    Sun Fade Time

Here's 30°W thru my welding mask on Saturday morning. Didn't focus all that well because I had the flash off and it was thinking it was too dark for the pic so the exposure was too long.......well that's my story.

    Big Day Tomorrow

I know you have a HOA where you live but I could sneak down with my chainsaw one night and help you out. Who'd blame a crazy Canuk for cuttin' down a few trees? Or better yet, I could ship you down a box full of beavers. By the time they get to you they should be plenty hungry. Just set 'em...

    Sun Fade Time

I used it to find Hispasat 30°W. I recommend the use of some sort of lens to view the sun through, more than just sunglasses. I used my welding mask.

Hispasat 30°W So if Hispasat at 30°W falls out of the sky or suddenly stops working it's all my fault............'cause I NAILED IT!!!! Having the leaves gone and the solar outages to pinpoint it worked out well. Finally got around to searching for it this evening and got it in less than 10...

Yes, I believe you are correct. I may have to cut some to get year round reception but for now I'll settle for any reception there. Hopefully I'll have a chance tomorrow to play with it.

    Big Day Tomorrow

Well.......I was close. Although right when I went out I had maybe 30sec before a cloud rolled in and messed things up for me. The best pic I got was when I forgot to turn the flash off when going through my welding mask. It is the most revealing. Looks like there are 3 maybe 4 poplar trees in...

    Big Day Tomorrow

The last two weeks have been nothing but sunshine then all of a sudden yesterday we had VERY black clouds and a few small t-storms. I was a little concerned but things are looking better today.

It's looking good! 8:06 and partly cloudy but I can see the sun quite well.........only 16 minutes to go and the sun should be very close to the opening I cut earlier this year. Elevation looks good.

First day of solar outage for Hispasat 30°W in my area..........this will allow me to see just where the heck it is from my location. Some of you may remember over the summer I was trying to get it by removing trees with no luck. Well tomorrow I should be able to see if I was even anywhere...

    Which Box, Open or Az?

Well that's better than folks who live "down east" around Toronto. They think Ontario ends somewhere around Sudbury.
