    Inside an old cable head-end.

According to the channel chart, it was used for Bloomberg. Bloomberg was launched in 94..I'm wondering since they had like 3 dishes, so at least 5 satellites...if Bloomberg was a small dish only channel? Maybe back then it was free on Directv like the Nasa channel? BTW. I can't remember if I...

    Inside an old cable head-end.

Did some google magic. Hallmark was changed from Odyssey in 2001. So this is before 2001. Turner South was short lived, lasting from 1999 to 2006. Since this paper has that channel, it's after 1999. New Urban Entertainment operate from 2000 to 2002, so it's after 2000. So looks like this...

    Inside an old cable head-end.

The channel charts, including phone numbers to call. This must be generic, because the head end only had around 32 channels.

    Inside an old cable head-end.

Here is the equipment inside. According to the channel chart, there were 30 channels. Now since each channel needs it's own tuner and it's own modulator, there should be 60 peices of equipment. However I only see about a dozen. I googled these. Could not find what they do. A modulator...

    Inside an old cable head-end.

A tornado recently blew the door open a cable head end, located on the property of a friend of my dad. The cable company has not used the head end in 10 some odd years. With his permission I went inside and took some photos. The head end itself. I found it odd that there was, and never has...

    A...ten inch satellite dish?

So there is this website: http://www.satellitedish.com/logme.htm That apparently sells a 10 and 16 inch dish. The 10 inch dish is over 200 dollars, compared to a cool 39.99 for a 18" standard dish. I've NEVER head of a 10 inch satellite dish, nor ever seen one.

    Channel Master 1m value?

I have a channel master 1 meter dish. It's in good condition, and it has a non-penetrating roof mount. I am no longer active in the FTA hobby, so I don't have much use for it. Is this dish worth anything, and if so, how much? Edit: IIRC, it might be 1.2, I will measure it tomorrow.

    Advice on C-band dish

10 Foot is the ideal size. 12 is just a waste of time. If your having issues with signals on a ten footer, then something else is wrong. At one time I had a 10 foot channel master on a 4DTV setup, I peaked the EbNo on the highest it could go. I had no issues with weak signals on any of the...

    Advice on C-band dish

Your not gonna get a brand new dish for under $1000. You need a 10 foot. That is the ideal size. Mesh is much lighter. You want to go with mesh. Anyway. Find a used dish, just drive around in the country, there are many left. Lots of them are unused, and you might be able to get one for free or...

    Bunch of Questions!

    1. If the signal seems low on certain satellites, it an alignment issue. If the signal seems low on all satellites, then it's an issue with the connections, cable, or LNB. 2. I do not know as I do not own one. 3. Not that I am aware of. Just use a dual feedhorn and mount two PLL LNBS on it...

    Ready to take the plunge!

Get a motor, there is over 24 FTA sats in the sky. Going outside to aim to another one is not fun during the winter.

    A SQUARE C-Band dish?!!?

I wonder what the story is behind this dish. I have never seen one like it.

    A SQUARE C-Band dish?!!?

I've seen some odd ball dishes from the early 80s that were square, but they were homemade. I've never seen anything like this.

How would I fix a 36" Ku satllite dish? Warped

If it looks like a taco, your pretty much done. If its warped just a little, might be able to bend it a little.

To Seal or not to seal?

The boxes where not water proof, just rain proof. I don't think they had gaskets on them. They do make waterproof diseq switches. They should create a ground block like that.

How often should you lube your Jack

On a serious note, I have a couple books on large dishes, I never recall anything that talked about lubrication of the actuator.

To Seal or not to seal?

This is the silicone I applied on the connection. Yes it does look like someone blew their nose on it. However it will keep water out more then any other sealant. Another reason why I sealed it with silicone: The ground block is about a foot off the roof. Snow can drift there, and when it...

To Seal or not to seal?

It's just premium silicone, the kind they use for windows. Keeps water out. Make sure you get the freeze/sun proof, the other stuff is made for kitchen and bath, not made for outdoor use, the stuff I use is for windows.

To Seal or not to seal?

Like the rest of you I thought those rubber seals on the ground blocks dish and DIRECTV use would keep the water out. When new coax was installed a few days ago. I took the ends off the old ground block that had rubber seals on it and one of the connections had gotten water in it and had...
