Wilt... don't screw your box owners. Please.

The case involved a company called VideoGuide. From a previous thread:"I remember a company called VideoGuide, sold a box in 1994 that read program guide data and news over the Pager network, kind of cool. When they shut down 2 years into their sales, they were required to buy the boxes back at...

Wilt - Why doesn't VOOM have PPV yet?

Wilt: Why has VOOM made PPV events such a low priority? It has been 17 months since the service launched and they have stopped offering PPV events.

Wilt - Are solutions to technical problems ever coming?

Wilt: It has been 15 months since I got VOOM and I am still experiencing large variations in the volume level between channels. Are you still working on this? Also, it has been 15 months since I got VOOM and it is still not possible to enter a OTA sub channel using the remote control (such...

Wilt - Could you please comment on OTA?

Doesn't the card belong to VOOM even on purchased receivers? Someone else mentioned that the box must be continually "reactivated" or it shuts itself down - maybe your box has older firmware and that is why it continues to work for OTA. As others have said - it sure would be nice to get a...

Wilt - Could you please comment on OTA?

Scott: The post below this one said that the box checks for authorization every two weeks and will shut itself down if it is not authorized. Is that true? How will we know ahead of time if VOOM is going to shut down all the boxes if they shut down the service? The Dish box, even when not...

Wilt - Could you please comment on OTA?

Hi: Despite reading many reports of people losing their ability to receive free OTA TV broadcasts after they cancel their VOOM satellite service I have received the email below from VOOM. Is this now true? Thanks, Joseph Response (William M.) - 02/05/2005 02:30 AM Thank you for choosing...

    RE: [VOOM] Re: OTA reception

If you purchased the box from VOOM then I think they would have to.

    RE: [VOOM] Re: OTA reception

I don't understand your argument at all. VOOM sold the box as a combinatinon satellite and TV broadcast receiver - they did not call it "satellite receiver with free TV broadcast receiver capability" or any such thing. Even if they had it still meets the specific definition in the rules...

    RE: [VOOM] Re: OTA reception

Wilt - Could you reply about the OTA? Wilt: Are there plans to modify the VOOM firmware so that de-authorized boxes will retain their TV broadcast receiver function. If not - could you explain why? Thanks, Joseph P.S. I have no plans to leave VOOM but their lack of communication requires...

    RE: [VOOM] Re: OTA reception

They said that if a company sells a piece of equipment that acts as a TV Broadcast receiver as one of its functions then that receiver is required to display the TV broadcast signal if the signal is available. The equipment manufacturer doesn't have to supply the signal but if the equipment...

    RE: [VOOM] Re: OTA reception

Satellite may be different but if the box has a OTA TV broadcast receiver function then the box has to meet certain requirements - such as being able to display all available channels, etc... It comes down to this - VOOM can not charge you a monthly fee to receive broadcast signals which the...

    RE: [VOOM] Re: OTA reception

I really don't see how you are getting that from the regs I quoted. VOOM provides a service but they also sell equipment and that equipment has requirements under the fcc rules. Why? - because the Voom box is TV broadcast receiver (in addition to being a satellite signal receiver) and all TV...

    RE: [VOOM] Re: OTA reception

Hi Again: The FCC reg is Section 15.117 regarding television receivers. Since the VOOM box was sold as both a satellite receiver and a television receiver it is subject to the regulations regarding television receivers. ...The reference in this section to TV broadcast receivers also...

    RE: [VOOM] Re: OTA reception

Check with the FCC Hi: Check the FCC regs regarding set top boxes that receive OTA signals. They are pretty clear in that a box must receive all available signals (meaning it can't exclude some channels) and I think that you should be protected in that a third party (VOOM) can not block your...

[VOOM] VOOM post to my big dish group

The reason someone would choose Dish over VOOM Yes, the reason someone would choose DISH over VOOM is the DVR. The reason VOOM is not attracting enough subscribers is the DVR. It doesn't matter how many channels you have if you can only watch one at a time.

Wilt - are we going to need a new dish to get the new channels in 3/05?

Dear Wilt: I called VOOM today to ask when I was supposed to get the larger or second dish to receive the new channels from Americom-6 as I understood from the 11/5 SEC filing that VOOM customers needed another dish to receive channels from this satellite and the VOOM press release of 11/22...

    [VOOM] Re: 80HD channels by 03/05 ???

Yes, you are correct - it is too much work to change the logo - even in exchange for the millions in revenue they would get from the satellite companies.
