Wilt:
It has been 15 months since I got VOOM and I am still experiencing large variations in the volume level between channels. Are you still working on this?

Also, it has been 15 months since I got VOOM and it is still not possible to enter a OTA sub channel using the remote control (such as channel 5-2, 50-3, etc) Are you still working on this?

Also, it has been 15 months since the white "sparklies" appearred in solid colors on some SD channels like History Channel and Comedy Channel. Is this going to be corrected?

Also, I am still waiting for an answer on whether or not the VOOM receiver will continue to functon as OTA TV broadcast receiver if the satellite subscription is cancelled. I have gotten two different answers from VOOM csr's.
Thanks,
Joseph

#1, yes you can. It has been explained here a few times. Search for the answer in this forum. It has been explained.

#2, sparklies - don't know. It is caused by over modulation of signal or mistuned c-band rcving system for analog, and since I am sure they are grabbing a digital signal, it is most likely overmodulation, probably at the rcving sat station end. I used to get these alot with a 10 foot c-band/ku-band dish years ago.

#3, No they will not. the ota only works on a subbed box. Try taking your box off the sat cable for 2 or so weeks, it loses all authorizations, incl ability to get ota.

I tried when I moved. Case closed on OTA.

Philhu,
There were actually four questions so your numbering system is confusing.
Which question are you answering with number 1? Volume level
inconsistencies or direct entry of sub channels because I am not sure how to
"fix" either one.
Question 3-The sparklies that I've seen on the weather channel, headline
news, history channel, etc. I believe are a direct result of using C Band
analog feeds that exhibit the same problem, not digital feeds. I have a BUD
and when the sparklies are bad on VOOM on those channels they are more
noticeable on my C Band BUD. Atmospheric conditions have an effect on this.
Unless you work for VOOM and are in a position to know for sure, the answer
to the OTA question is elusive at best. Some people have disconnect Rainbow
1 and had OTA for months, others experience the 2 week effect you describe.
I believe this could be change via a satellite software download if vOOM
ever decided to change their policy. I still maintain that if you own your
receiver they really are in potential violation of FCC policy by restricting
your ability to receive OTA locals. If you are leasing then I can
understand the policy. Until someone legally challenges this the policy
will probably not change unless VOOM is going under in some fashion.
Frankly, it's easier to just go buy a good OTA STB then worry about this one
or consider getting a lawyer.....$200 gets you a great STB.

Fwiw, I have time warner cable and they have the same volume issues. If I'm
watching an hd channel and switch to a non hd channel, the volume increases
by atleast 20db.
