New OTA bandscan tuners in New Mexico

Indeed, my memories of the phenomena are all low VHF and FM. The channel 4 mentioned above (now known as KDBC) had been urged by residents of Southern New Mexico to try and move to channel 11 which was licensed to Juarez, Mexico but unused at that time. Even cable companies in Lordsburg and...

New OTA bandscan tuners in New Mexico

Back in the analog days there was a lot of Tropo in NM. In the summer channel 4 from El Paso was unwatchable many days in Las Cruces, just 40 miles away due to other channel 4s intruding. In Albuquerque, I remember watching an entire concert on channel 2 from San Francisco. Also in Las...

    Ota Dvr

Since the digital transition in 2009 I have tried Tivo, Tablo and the Dishnetwork's OTA module. The major concern I have had is getting correct guide data matched to the correct real RF channel. With the switching of frequencies going on now due to ATSC 3.0 that must be even worse. The...

    Super-Duper Multi Location Antenna?

That would be a good choice except it has no VHF elements for locations that have stations actually transmitting on VHF. This small antenna is both UHF and VHF. Myself and other members here have been surprised how well it performs for its size. 3458353

    Super-Duper Multi Location Antenna?

Are you looking for a home style antenna that you will manually put up at the campsite rather than one that is cranked up from inside the camper? If so, I assume a moderate to compact size would be appropriate and you would want both UHF and VHF capability since it would be used in various...

    best OTA long range antenna

Thanks, Mr. Tony. I never tried clicking the milage figure. One thing I have missed about rabbit ears as opposed to the old TV Fool is was the ability to check for LOS.

    best OTA long range antenna

Why is reception just 28 miles south of Erie, PA so poor? I looked at the Google satellite view and do not see any large mountains.

    best OTA long range antenna

If an indoor antenna is not doing the job, you most likely need an outdoor antenna. If an outdoor antenna is absolutely not possible due to living in an apartment or such one can mount a larger antenna that is usually meant for the outdoors in a window or appropriate location inside. I had to...

    problem tuning subchannels on WSTR-TV

The channels you have known as "64" are now the guest on 4 other local transmitters (channels that you know as 5, 9, 12 and 19). But in reality all of these except channel 12 actually transmit on other channels and just continue to call themselves by the same number they were traditionally...

VHF Antennas for RF 4 and 7

It sounds as if you are already quite knowledgable. That said, there is no way to know for sure without playing around with it (and that is the fun part).

VHF Antennas for RF 4 and 7

Are you looking to pick up a specific signal on channels 2, 3 or 5 or do you have VHF DX-ing in mind?

    OTA Tuners with guide question

Mwdxer1, you are correct. That is the point I was making in post # 21. The only way a distant zip code could help you would be if it had the same network on the same RF frequency and virtual channel. it may even need to be in your time zone. This is not very likely, especially with the minor...

    OTA Tuners with guide question

I believe if he did that it would indeed give him the station's schedule but it would put the guide information on the wrong frequency. If he were to click on the guide to record it would go to a black screen as there is no signal on that frequency.

    OTA Tuners with guide question

I am not getting around very well right now and being that this was just and experiment for the purposes of this forum that would not be a high priority.

Yes, the whole mess is a sad situation.

    OTA Tuners with guide question

I pulled out my old Zenith converter box which depends on PSIP data much like the Emetic. I can not say that our Texas stations are doing as good of a job as over there in Oregon. One sub-channel has been Quest for a couple of years but they are still sending out guide information for some...

    OTA Tuners with guide question

I feel your pain and I live in a larger city that does not depend on translators. I have tried Tivo, Tablo, Dish's USB attachment and the early converter boxes. There is not only the issue of correct guide information but also the problem of which actual RF frequency a station uses. TiVo is...

KNMD has filed to FCC, will go to ATSC 3.0 mode in 6-30-21

So that is why they duplicated their programming onto the Channel 5 slot. It will be interesting to see what they carry on the ATSC 3.0 signal. I also wonder what DISH will carry as "Channel 9" on the ABQ locals.

RCA yagi HD Outdoor TV antenna reception problem

I assume you used a simple double barrel 75 ohm connector to add the 6 feet of cable and not an unused splitter or some other device. When I have had unexpected results like yours, many times it is because the inner copper wire in the cable is just a fraction too short and not touching in the...

Is a 50 year old rooftop antenna worth keeping?

50 years ago (yes, I was there) almost all home antenna installations were done with 300 ohm twin flat lead. I don't remember seeing white coax until the 1990s. But it certainly could be RG59.

Is a 50 year old rooftop antenna worth keeping?

Ypsiguy beat me to the punch as I typed. While his recommendations certainly are valid, I feel that would be massive overkill for 16 miles from Mt. Wilson with clear line of sight. While I would put some work into the existing lower antenna, if I were to simply replace it a medium sized...

Is a 50 year old rooftop antenna worth keeping?

I could not see the picture until rabbit73's posting. The old lower antenna certainly is the correct type for the LA area. It of course includes lower VHF which is used for some lesser known channels as well as VHF high and UHF. It does look a bit corroded but some sandpaper could correct...

    Orlando Wesh 2.3 gone?

I am surprised no members in your area have answered your question. I like to keep up with the situation in Florida as I am originally from Jacksonville. I just looked at Rabbit Ears and he shows WESH on channel 11 in Bithlo, channel 18 in Orange City and channel 19 in Ocala. Let us know if...
