will HDTV be free after the analog cutoff

What do you mean, "you have to pay extra for it"? If you subscribe to your local channels (both cable and satellite) your HD locals are included IF they are available from your provider. DISH is not yet providing HD locals in a lot of areas but they will be adding more DMAs in the next few...

    Ghosting

You didn't say how you have your equipment hooked up to the TV , i.e. s-video, composite or RF (that might help pinpoint your problem). The first thing that I would do is check your cables. Poor quality cables can lead to ghosting. If you have ghosting on all of your TV inputs he problem is...

811 Transponder, Channels missing and Switch Problems

Your signal strengths on the 110 and 105 satellites are low. It is likely that your dish is not aimed correctly. You should be getting a much higher signal from 110 and 105. The swich test will fail if the signal strength is too low. When you are looking at signal strength you should be...

    era for dbs!

Speak for yourself. ANYONE that has built a business from the ground up (as DISH and DirecTV has done and VOOM is trying to do) will NOT agree with you. Your "sense of fairness" has the same wierd twists that your anti-porn messages have.

HELP!! Problem with a microyal SW 44 switch

Re: DP44 Just an FYI. He said SW44. All SW switches are LEGACY switches so the SuperDish remark is not relevant. The SuperDish won't even work with the SW switches. If you meant the DP44 switch they work fine without the SuperDish software. You must be one of installers that work...

HELP!! Problem with a microyal SW 44 switch

Here are a couple of things to check: Make sure that the power inserter is correctly installed. The coax cable from the inserter to the SW44 MUST be connected to port one of the SW44. You must have all the inputs (from the two LNBs) connected to the SW44.

    Court says "Sorry Charlie"

Yes, it sure does. The SEC site at http://www.sec.gov/investor/pubs/bankrupt.htm has some good information on this if you are interested.

    Court says "Sorry Charlie"

Video62, Here is some information about corporate bankruptcy: When a company declares bankruptcy the stock becomes just about worthless (Loral's stock closed at $0.40 a share today down $0.01). When the company pulls out of bankruptcy NEW stock is issued but the old stockholders are left...

Rock promises crackdown on satellite-TV piracy

Yes, that is true but it is mostly the government, not all of the people. I was stationed up there was I was in the U.S. Air Force (Goose Bay) and the people wanted anything from the U.S. that they could get their hands on. There are small pockets of "save out culture" but the average Canadian...

Adding LNB for 148 to Dish500

Dlsnyder, Just an FYI on the design of the dish 500: It was designed to be able to pick up two satellite slots 9 degrees apart so, as Kevin said, it is too far away. You mentioned that you doubt if you can get approval for a second dish. Is this a "wife factor" or an appartment/condo...

Commission Drops Talk of DBS Auction

And if DISH Network gets transponders on 157, customers can use a dish 500 to get both slots. They could put a lot of western U.S. locals on 148 and 157 (they will be moving internationals from 148 to 121 so that is going to free up a lot of space). For a lot of people that would be a much...

Rules would require recorders to encrypt TV shows

They had a short story about it on today's TechTV's Screensavers. I think that it will really hurt HD recorder sales if it gets adopted. Who wants to spend that much money on hardware that will only record some programs (and the programmers control that) or limit how a recorded program can...

    can't get a signal on Satellite 2

Did DirecTV suggest swapping cables at the back of the DVR? If the problem stays with tuner 2 (satelllite 2) then the problem is a bad tuner. If is doesn't, it is the wiring, multiswitch, or LNB. You did not mention what type of dish you have but if you have a dish without a multiswitch...

Converting A/V to coax RF output

Mark, As mentioned you can use a VCR or you can pick up a video modulator at any electronics store. Cheap ones (with channel 3 or 4 out) should be less than $25. You should also be aware that the cheap modulators are NOT stereo.

Rainbows Satellite Service to be named VOOM!

According to this article, http://www.siliconvalley.com/mld/siliconvalley/news/6786812.htm the price of the hardware is going to be $749. That is a lot of money especially when you consider that you can get a DISH 811 for $399 from a company that has been in the business for a long time and has...

Can't Seem to Get 110 & 119. Is my LNB Bad?

Check to make sure that the dish mount is plumb. It is very hard to align for both 110 and 119 at the same if it isn't.
