Mesh dishes have no practical wind load advantage over a solid dish of the same dimension. Mesh dishes should always be calculated exactly the same as a solid dish.

Excellent advise. :) Not to take anything away from people having some fun experimenting, but.. for C-Band, I have discovered anything less than 1.2m is a waste of time. A six footer (1.8m) is the minimal size for decent gain and acceptable adjacent satellite rejection.

I have found no C/Ku combos worth using except for temporary or emergency use. The SatelliteAV GeoSatPro C2 is the best performance/value C-band LNBF I have tested. The Invacom QPH-031 is the best performance/value Ku-band LNBF I've tested. You won't be disappointed with either. ;)

Hopefully, Dennis got his problem resolved. The larger the dish, the longer it takes to find the bird. Having the correct tools is a must. A magnetic elevation level and a spectrum analyzer with a fast responding spectral graph works wonders. The difference is two days of frustration now...

IMO, making the 7.5 SAMI work on Ku is just not practical. I own one too and there are way too many issues. I prefer using a separate 1.0m or 1.2m for Ku. You'll be far less frustrated and much happier with that arrangement. ;)

Thanks for the info. The receiver ID starts with 002 and authorization status shows "ZK" The last service provider is unknown.

I have DSR-920 with a dead chassis battery that is still showing Unit ID and Receiver number in the system status menu. Is this typical?

Many older VSAT systems have no value except for parts. The satellite operators won't even recommission them on their birds. You might discover a receiving application with the dish.

Glad to hear you found the problem. I had something similar happen on the back of a stereo amplifier once. A strand of speaker wire broke off inside one of those self grabbing speaker connectors, the kind with the spring-loaded push tabs. The strand was shorting to the inside of the chassis...

Last week in the early morning hours ABCHD had one frame of video every couple of seconds or so and with no audio. It seems okay now.

Hi Photoman, I'd be interested knowing what additional signals you expect to receive with the 10 footer compared to the 7-1/2 footer. I plan to install a 7.5 here in Sac and hope that it will be sufficient. Your insight would be greatly appreciated. :)

Has anyone noticed lower signal on 3844H Carbbean Mux?? Quality here is about 10% lower than normal.

7.5 SAMI Found I just found a 7.5 ft. SAMI, but was considering a larger dish. Does anyone know how this dish performs compared to an 8 footer?

Thanks for pointing that out! Do you have any signal breakup? I see Ohio is in the red and Cali is in the yellow. I think another dB or two would do the trick here. Any suggestions other than getting a larger dish?

Thanks for the reply, but I'm referring to the C-band signals provided by KQCK/KQDK. These channels barely lock in this morning. Another 4-5% increase in SQ should make things stable on the CS5000 using a 1.2 meter dish.
