Hello everyone,

First time user and subscriber to this website and to Directv and let me tell you that your site is doing much better than Dtv is. I am about to tell a story of a journey that I have been suffering though that most would have given up on long ago. My patience is near it's end and I am not sure who else to go to for the exception of the Better Business Bureau. It all started in Feb 2007 when I made my first call to Dtv's 800 number. I placed my order to a rep and everything went fine. She said that I would get a phone call in the next 72 hours from a installation tech. The next day I received an email from them which had my order on it and I believed that all was good. So 3 days goes by and no call from the tech.... I decide to be proactive and call Dtv to ask if there was any problems. This is where it starts to go really bad....

The rep that I talked to stated that because of where I am at (Fairbanks, Alaska to be specific) that there was a massive backlog of users that needed installation due to Alaska Wireless going out of business. Because of this, my installation appointment was scheduled for June 12th 2007! Yes that is right... 4 months later. So, believe it or not, I stuck with it. I thanked the rep for the information that she gave me and prepared to wait. Now some people would ask, "Why didn't you just go with Dish network?" Well from what I have researched, Direct seems to be the better option. Not so sure about that at the moment.... So if you are still awake it gets deeper. :) The end of May rolls around and I am starting to get giddy about getting the service. I call up Dtv to verify that my installation date is still the same. Yup, still the same. I go along carefree waiting for the 12th of June. So between 8 - 12pm I wait at home on the 12th. 10am rolls around and I start to get worried that there was a problem with the address for the house. I call Dtv again and speak with a rep that tells me my account has become cancelled due to inactivity. Hmmmmmmm do you think so?

An inactive account because I was told that the installers wouldn't be out there for 4 months. So how was it that I was able to verify my account to be installed just 2 weeks ago in the end of May? Frusterated, I sat on hold while the rep talked with several supervisors. I believe that I sat on the phone talking with different people (who couldn't find my account due to inactivity....I became quite good at telling me story) for 3 hours before I was told that a service rep would call me in 72 hours. More waiting and... yup you guessed it....they never called. I called back and talked with someone in the Dtv installation dept. who read the account history log. He was absolutely shocked to see that I had a account number with a install id number that had expired. He told me that the best thing for me to do would be to start all over to get a new install id number. *Sigh* So I do it. I get a credit refunded back to my credit card and he transfers me to a sales rep so that I can start this wonderful journey over again. (Several explicits were yelled as I listed to choppy elevator music while the phone was on speaker)

After a while a rep answered and I was happy to hear that Dtv recognized my troubles and offered to give me 32 months of discounted satellite tv. We will see if that sticks. So at the moment, I sit calling nearly 3 times a week asking if I have acquired a installation date from an installer that is like a ghost. I call the local number (907)264-0097 for Micro communications (the Alaska installer) and it goes straight to a voicemail telling me to call a Dtv number if I need an installation. Ok so we are now at present day and here I am typing asking/begging/pleading if anyone else in Alaska is going through the same headaches that I am. If anybody has information about this company or a different phone number, I would greatly appreciate it. I know that Dtv is not really to blame for this but I would have guessed that (going by some of the other blogs from other Alaskans on here) they would have hired more installers up here to take care of this.

Ok I know that I have written a book about this but hopefully someone has some answers or this will get read by others that are experiencing the same frustrations.

Thanks for your time.

Thats funny. I called one of the local (Fairbanks) installers and the lowest price I was quoted to install a 1.2-1.8 meter dish on my roof was $1500. The highest price I was told was $2500. When I as I already have the cable ran up to and on the roof. I think it's pretty outrageous since the only thing I need is a dish placed on my roof. I had one person tell me that I need to pay for the recievers to compensate him for the cost of getting them (free) from DN. I have talked to some employees of these companies, lets say it's not the labor that is driving up the cost. Any thoughts?
jcrandall
WELCOME to the site, is the huge cost just because of the rooftop install? Those are big dishes to put on a roof. Could you pull the wire back and install on a pole by the house? Or just run new wire?

Those dishes are more expensive, and I'm sure it costs a pretty penny to ship them up to Alaska, but not anything that would warrant $1500 or so. I'd also recomend calling any other satellite companies in the vicinity (I know there may not be many)
M
Once you get above 90cm the shipping is unreal to ship them even here in the lower 48. 1.2m dish I've seen cost 100 bucks to ship and thats here in the states. A 1.8m offset dish...oh boy there's a lot of money there.
T
It's not to bad if you get them shipped up here on a slow boat. There are quite a few dishes on top of roofs, even though it's not my first choice. I told a local company not to put their antenna on my roof when I had my wireless cable installed. At the end of the day, I was greeted to a bright and shiny antenna and pole installed on the roof. Now I'm of the opinion that the damage is already done, what more can happen? I don't want to sound like Hank Hill but, I just put a new lawn in, I know it don't seem like a big deal, but North of town they are few and far between. I'm having a hard time ripping up my new yard to bury cable.
T
One more thing guys. Thanks for reading my post. I know that I was on a soap box on my original reply on this string I was frustrated with trying the different installers in the area and I was just venting.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

remembers when ATT had stores and leased home phones
dishstaller
My Wife was recently in an antique store and saw a rotary desk phone and it had one of those sticker overlays that had a business listed with phone number under each number on the dial. She looked closer and it had my old Radio Shack listed under the 8...she bought it. Pretty cool keepsake. Back then I rented vhs movies as well so I had it listed as Radio Shack / Movie Gallery and then the phone number.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

Week Six Balls and Goats and WTH is Going On in The NFL??

Browns. 1st place in the North. Yup. Believe it or not

Chiefs. Undefeated.

Titans. Won a game ! .... Colts I know, but still.

Saints. Won a game after a while.

Steelers. Having the same season they always have. They somehow find wins on their way to an unceremonial 1st round exit. Mike Tomlin is proud.

Cards. Won a game without scoring a single touchdown

Broncos. How they manage to win games with the dogshit offense they have should be studied.

Bears. Caleb's back and so is their mojo.

Goats

NFC East. For the 2nd straight week no team from this clown show of a division won a game. Eagles are cooked without Hurts. Who's not that good anyway. Commanders suck, Dallas is well ..... Dallas and the Giants have no QB.

Ravens. Lamar is out (as usual). But still. Losing to the Browns is never ok.

Chargers. Still can't win.

Rams. So much for the powerhouse team. They are 2 games under .500

Seattle. Lost to the offenseless Broncos.

Johnson built it, but without the Herschel Walker trade, it never happens.

Jerry made himself General Manager after he bought the team but make no mistake Jimmy engineered that trade. As well as a lot of others at the time.

Jimmy Johnson is a football guy. Jerry Jones is a marketer (hustler).

When I see a football player get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (like taunting) in a close game, I often wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking, I'm doing everything I can to make this a better team and help win a championship? Or, was he saying to himself, I want everyone to notice how great I am?

Johnson inspires one, Jones the other.

I haven't posted in almost 17 years. Over the air, sat, offline, anything-but-the-internet is still one of my avid pursuits. Been playing with offline tv viewing and offline web browsing. I have great appreciations for this site still being here. It's so hard to find public communities that haven't sold out to social media company.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Now that I'm retired, obviously I have different health care insurance. I take 2 prescriptions. With my old insurance I didn't have to pay for either of them, now I do. It's not a huge amount but it led me to dig a little into the cost of prescription medications. I have been using Walgreens for the longest time. But what I found was that Walgreens price is 4.8 times more for one of my prescriptions and the other is 2.3 percent more compared to the lowest price pharmacy. If you pay for prescription medications you might want to have a look at trumprx and see if you can get a lower price.

I run them through several different providers to see who has the lowest cost

Usually it's Walmart or Sam's + GoodRx

Also...

You can also price them through the CareCard and WellRx apps.

Sometimes Amazon Pharmacy is cheapest.

TrumpRx?!?

I went on Medicare recently (not an "advantage" plan) and my prescriptions at HyVee were very low out of pocket. The clerk said she was putting them on "Good Rx".

I take 10mg Rosuvastatin (Crestor). I was paying $34 for a 90day supply at Walgreens last year when I was on Blue Cross. My Blue Cross premiums were going up to $1800 a month this year, so I switched to an Ambetter Bronze plan (I think that's a Cigna company) for $825 a month. I now have a $40 copay for doctors visits which is fine as I usually only see them once or twice a year, so a huge cost savings. My Rosuvastatin was going to go up to around $90 for a 90 day supply at Walgreens and even more at CVS or one of the local family pharmacies. Ordering online thru my insurance portal from Express Scripts it's $0.74 for a 90 day supply.

I'm fortunate and don't take any medications. A couple years ago I had to take some antibiotics and used the GoodRx app. Went to Walmart and the person behind the desk knew me and told me to just buy them outright....the GoodRx price was a LOT higher. She said they aren't supposed to tell customers when they see they are being screwed.
