A CSR informed me today that I would have to pay 60 bucks to upgrade my fresh move install in order to receive my locals in HD in Raleigh NC. It just amazes me that they would install two dish 500's at my prior address, and OTA for free but want to charge me 60 bucks in NC to get my locals in HD. Has anyone gotten around this? The money is not the issue its all about principal.

I'm in Raleigh and was having problems with my reception, and while fiddling around in the menus I saw a message about LNB drift. I looked around on the internet and saw that this usually means that one of the LNB's is about to go bad. I called tech support and told the girl about the LNB drift message. All the things I had read said to be prepared to read off all the numbers in the LNB drift message when calling in. The girl didn't seem interested at all in the LNB drift message. All she kept talking about was how her system was telling her that I didn't have the correct equipment to be receiving the packages that I was subscribed to. After a few minutes of that I finally said "well I do subscribe to the HD package and my locals but don't get my locals in HD, and you do carry my HD locals." She put me on hold for a minute, and when she came back she said she was going to have a technician come out and replace my dish. No mention of it costing anything.

The technicians came out and all they did was replace one of my LNB's. I'm not positive (because I'm no expert on this stuff), but I think they replaced the wrong one. I heard them say something about 110, and it was 129 that the message mentioned. They didn't look to see what the message said before they started the work. I said something to them about what the girl had said about me not having the right equipment and that she was going to have them replace the dish. They said that the dish could be replaced if I wanted to, and the only thing extra it would get me would be local HD's. They said they didn't have a dish with them because that wasn't in the work order. When they called in to report they had completed replacing the LNB they gave the phone to me. The girl said that I could upgrade from my 1000 to the 1000+ for $59.99 with an 18-month contract, or a much higher price (I think it was $199?) without a contract. I said OK, whatever and did it for the $59.99 because I just didn't feel like arguing with anyone about it and didn't want to pay the higher price. After the technicians left I checked and was still getting the same LNB drift message on 129, but I didn't call in about it since they were coming back in a week to replace the dish.

I have the 1000+ now and everything seems to be working OK. I think the guy that came to replace the dish was some kind of subcontractor or something. He showed up in a beat up old minivan, and he looked a little rough around the edges. He wasn't wearing a Dish Network "uniform" either. That's the first time I've ever had someone come to install or work on my dish that wasn't in a Dish Network vehicle and not wearing a Dish Network shirt/uniform.

Thanks Guys I just wanted to make sure this wasnt some new revenue stream for dish and its and current normal so i guess 60 bucks it is. I have noticed that the dish 1000+ prices on ebay were 199.00 so i guess I cant really complain about 60 bucks. Especially with the wife in my ear every other night about why dont have locals anymore!

Ok what is your complaint? Is it the fact that your service isn't working properly?. Is it a bias against contract workers?...Is it the cost of the upgrade( where this notion that customers should have to pay for nothing is a mystery to me)
The LNB drift message woil be there until the matrix is cleared. Would you like to know how to do that?.

I apologize in advance if I took your post in the wrong way, but you seem to have a bit of an attitude problem. My service is working just fine. I believe I said in my previous post that it's been working fine since they replaced the dish. I wasn't complaining about anything. I was just stating what all had happened. Believe me, if I was complaining everyone would definitely know about it.

I didn't call in asking to have my dish replaced, and certainly wasn't expecting to get something for free. I had been having reception issues with HD channels, then found the LNB drift message which I assumed was the cause of the HD reception issues. All I was expecting was for someone to come out and replace the LNB, and I figured I would have to pay $25 (or whatever the service call fee is when one has the DHPP). The rep I spoke with in tech support said that she was going to send someone out to replace my dish because her system was showing that I didn't have the proper equipment to receive everything I was subscribed to. Those were her exact words, and all she seemed interested in was "replacing my dish." She wasn't interested at all in the LNB drift message, even though I mentioned several times that I was getting that message and that I believed it was the cause of my reception issues on the HD channels. She never asked for any information at all from the LNB drift message. I had the message up on the screen when I called in because I was expecting her to ask me to read off all the numbers to her. All she kept asking me were things like did I know which model dish I had, did I know which satellites I was receiving signal from, etc (all of which I did know). After she continually kept mentioning me "not having the proper equipment" I finally said "well, I do subscribe to both the HD package and my locals but don't get my locals in HD...and you do carry them." I did not at that time, or any other time during the call, ask for anything to be done about me not receiving my locals in HD. Like I said, I wasn't trying to get anything for free, but she didn't say that it would cost anything or possibly require an 18-month commitment to have the dish replaced. I just figured I had gotten a rep that was having a really good day or was exceptionally nice or something.

The guys that showed up for the appointment she had made were not contract workers, and were the usual Dish Network guys, in a Dish Network van and wearing Dish Network uniforms. They knew absolutely nothing about replacing the dish, didn't have a dish with them because it "wasn't in the work order" (which I can understand), and had no clue why the rep would have told me that she was going to have my dish replaced. They didn't check the LNB drift message before starting their work, and at some point I very clearly heard them mention something about the 110 LNB. There couldn't have been any information in their work order on which LNB to work on (unless the receiver reported it when it "phoned home"...again, I'm no expert), as the rep never took any info at all from me about the message. The LNB drift message was for 129, so I assumed that would be the LNB that should have been replaced/worked on. When they were done and made their call to Dish to report that they had finished the repair they gave the phone to me so the rep could explain about getting a new dish to me. I had no problem with the 18-month commitment, as I've had Dish for a while and have never really had any problems with the service. I also had no problem with paying the $59.99 for the dish (once again, I wasn't trying to get something for free), but it was a bit of a surprise. It would have been nice if the first rep would have said something about the fees and/or commitment rather than making it seem as if it would be done at no cost to me. I hadn't placed a service call since adding the DHPP, and figured the replacement dish was either covered under that or as I said earlier had just gotten the rep when she was in a really good mood or whatever when I was speaking with that first rep. I didn't feel it was worth questioning the work the LNB replacement that had been done since the dish was going to be replaced in a week.

Also, I have no bias against contract workers. I've been with Dish for several years now, and they've never used a contract worker in all the times they've been to my house before. I didn't even know they used contract workers in the Raleigh area. It was just a bit of a surprise is all...seeing this "rough" looking guy show up in a beat up minivan when it's always been really professional looking guys in Dish Network vehicles in the past. There was no indication who he was or what he was there for until he said "I'm here to replace your dish." I had no clue who he was when he pulled into my driveway because it wasn't what I was expecting. He was very pleasant, showed up 30 minutes early (which the "regular" Dish guys have never done), and did a decent job from what I can tell. He even called to let me know that he was running early, but I wasn't able to take the call at the time because I was in the dentist chair with a drill in one of my molars.

That's because the one good thing the administration is doing is finally going after the fake and non-domiciled CDL drivers, opening the door to hire more valid drivers and hopefully will push the rates back up.

now let's get rid of the piss tanks and tampons off of diesels aka emissions crap since it can bankrupt someone!!! and get rid of ELD'S since they make some drivers drive like idiots trying to find a parking spot. starter mega carriers should not allow new drivers to train that's just a way for em to move cheap freight..

My Win10 desktop was freezing all the time and two different guys told me probably needed a new HHD. I am OLD and finally after two days got 10 re-installed. Then I would selet to do update's would lock up. Maybe i should have let it do them at night. I have shut off updates for 30 days to see how it runs. Seems to be running fine but what will happen if it does not update. It was my understanding MS was not going to support them but when i did the new install it gave me the option for them to continue for 6 more months.

Why stick with an OS that's losing support??
For me, it is mostly about the abject failure Microsoft's "support" has turned out to be. Their "support" has been at least as much of a millstone as a life preserver. This behavior on Microsoft's part arguably shouldn't be "supported".

The last "Patch Tuesday" (June 9) laundry list included 200 issues, including five known zero-days and one exploited zero-day. There were 38 "critical" vulnerabilities, including 28 Remote Code Executions, four Elevation of Privileges, and an Information Disclosure.

Among all "threat level" classes:
  • 65 Elevation of Privilege Vulnerabilities
  • 19 Security Feature Bypass Vulnerabilities
  • 55 Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities
  • 30 Information Disclosure Vulnerabilities
  • 7 Denial of Service Vulnerabilities
  • 27 Spoofing Vulnerabilities
According to Bleeping Computer, users who are up-to-date with Windows 11 may experience problems (that don't throw an error) with third-party applications trying to open Office applications using OLE -- a core feature of Office since 1990.

Just yesterday, with the help of a one-man, third-party support site for Windows, I was able to get past a Windows Extended Security Updates activation error that has been plaguing me since October. The fix involved changing an obscurely-named registry entry from one to zero.

I still haven't figured out why Windows thinks I'm enrolled in the Windows Insider Program and, if I am, under what Microsoft account.
HipKat
I read all that stuff, and I feel like blah blah, whatever. I use Windows about 40% of the time now, for work-related things I need Windows for, and none of that stuff affects anything I do. And that includes web browsing and posting forums just like this one.
As for Insider Program, have you checked in Windows Update under the Insider tab to make sure? That's where you join and leave the program

That's where it shows that I'm part of the program. One must log into the associated Microsoft account to opt out of the program.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm still experimenting with OTA antennas at my new apartment. The mudflap works OK, but we had a dust/wind/rain storm the other day and it all but blew it away. I moved it indoors where the antenna is safer but the signals are marginal.

I bought a traditional Yagi antenna from Amazon and it seems to work more consistently, plus it's meant for outdoors where the mudflap is not.

Anyway, I've had success using umbrella bases paired with a fence post for satellite dishes, and I figured that could work for this as well. I'm just not sure where or what to get and what size pole for this application.

Go to Home Depot and buy a length of "Top Rail" used in making chain link fences. I used a 10' section to mount my Winegard which is probably 4X the size of the yagi you bought from Amazon. It's been up for 15+ years of NM springtime winds and storms with no issues. They make 2 sizes. 1 3/8" and 1 5/8" diameter. Do you have a balcony railing you can clamp to?

BTW does that antenna do VHF HI or is it just UHF?

I suppose PVC would probably work also?
Yeah, I guess so. I've never tried that though. I'd be concerned with UV deterioration from the NM sun. Some PVC may be UV resistant. I just don't know.
I would be concerned with the heat and its effect on bending of the PVC. I would think at the 1-1/2" O.D. even Schedule 80 wouldn't be stiff enough to prevent movement in a strong wind. It might be too much movement and deteriorate ATSC reception if it's much more than 4' long.

What is the stuff installers use to seal the area around coax point of entry? The Comcast guy used it to seal his RG6 run for broadband. I want to do that for my antenna line..

For what it's worth, I've been using a piece of 1-1/4 white PVC well pipe to mount a 90cm dish to a 4x4 post as a temporary mount. Almost 9 years later it's still there and has not degraded in the sun (CT sun might not be as harsh as in NM, but still, that thing is in the sun for most of the day)

With the 1st Quarter Report just released, Dish lost another 180,000, now at 4.84 Million.

Sling now at 1.79 million subscribers, down approximately 190,000.

For comparison, YouTube TV now has about double the subscribers of Dish and Sling combined.

Maybe Elon thinks satellite TV will do a come back. I bet he has a Hopper 3 and loves it. Apps keep going up on prices and you need more than one app to see everything you want to see. I think Satellite is the way to go.

No problem.

PIP feature on the Joey 4 had been used to watch two channels at once which I thought was the limitation being only two channels vs.Hopper 3's multi-view four channels.

This time when I selected the PIP feature I noticed an option for Multi-View?

Could this be?

Yes it could.

This software update does this.

Multi-view PIP (4 channels) Is Now Available on Joey 4.

This is freaking awesome and very surprising!!!

Very wonderful for me.

I got the Multi-view update for my Joey4s yesterday.
Works great.
Is there some other change? Or more to come?

Unfortunately do to NDA's I can't discuss beta features until they are released to the public. But lets just say the DISH team is doing some amazing work. :)

Received this e-mail 3 days ago... At the bottom, it says limited to one Multi-view session per household. How does it work if someone had Hopper 3, Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus, Wired Joey 4 and a Wireless Joey 4 for example? Can they all do Multi-view session at the same time?

Is there an estimated Amazing Date when we might see the results of this Amazing Work?

I have all them there models. I know for sure they all have multi-view, but I have not tried them all out at the same time. Wife has the H3+ in use right now. I will try it out tomorrow & report back.

Seems confusing; 4k Joey does 4k but Joey 4 does not...

It's pretty much the reverse of that.

My 4K Joey has played 4K, just not 4K HDR.

Ok, I'm bored .... actually - to be more precise - I'm bored of eating the same rotation of 9 or 10 meals that are currently my "go-to" meals. My wife works the long hours - I work from home as and when i feel like it ... which means i generally do most of the cooking ... and so by default - i also make out the shopping list ...

We cook at home 5 or even 6 nights a week - but we always seem to fall back on the same old tried and tested "quick and easy but tastes ok" meals. Week in week out.

Pot Roast - mash and Peas.
Spaghetti
Chicken Pasta in cheese sauce.
Curry & rice
(these are some of mine)

Now it's not that I'm not adventurous in the kitchen ... I'll try anything once or twice ... but we all do it. Unless your name is Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray .. we all eventually fall back on our 8-10 favorite "meals"

So i thought - if we shared some of our own go-to meals with each other ... we might be able to add a few "new" ones to our own arsenal of meals.

So again - I ask you ...

What's for dinner tonight ?

Please give me something new to add to my rotation ... its our weekly shop tomorrow - so i want to pull together a few idea's and try and eat a meal each day next week that I've never had before .. or at least something that is not on my current "go-to" meal plan.

What meal do you always seem to fall back on in your house ? Maybe its something that I've never tried or not had in a while. I need inspiration !! I've got a blank shopping list in front of me - and nothing sounds good .. HELP !

My current one month of HBO ends today. Maybe I'll check it out late summer/fall.

It seems like Big Bang Theory characters were dropped into the Walking Dead?

Well, it's part of my $39/$50 DTV MyEntertainment subscription. So we'll likely give it a try.

Watching the Young Sheldon discs we bought. Transfer was well done.

Recently had a Hopper 3 installed and noticed that I have a green bar at the top of my screen, also occasionally a thin green line on the right side. I have tried switching hdmi ports on the tv as well as different cables. My only thought is that it is the age of the TV. Thoughts and suggestions?

Tried the Adjust Screen settings and the green bar was still present. Did have a random day when the green bar was gone, but it came back. Did look at the TV setting and found I could stretch the screen a little where the green bar was gone, but it does cut off things across the edges of the picture slightly. Likely will start shopping for a new TV as mine is close to 20 years old and the Dis Remote doesn't seem to like the TV.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Yeah, 20 years is a good time for retirement. You can get a nice new 4K/HDR TV for a very reasonable price even for large ones.

I suggest you get an LG Oled 4k TV. You will love the picture on this thing from all angles in the room. The picture is the best I've seen ever. I have the B 3 series 55 inch TV and it was on sale in the fall of 2024 for like $749.00 - because they sell off their older models when they reach end of year.

I even bought one for my parents. They had a huge living room and sit at the weirdest angles with their furniture and the viewing angle was a problem using just about any TV we tried, but not with the LG Oled Tv. They love the picture. Walmart sells them and so does Amazon.

Walmart sells them and so does Amazon.
So does Costco & Sam's Club - & both places give an extended 5-year warranty at no extra charge
