Which is the Best HD receiver for DVI?

It's almost football season again and I am looking to get a HD receiver to be able to watch the games in HD. I have a TV that has Component and DVI inputs, but I use the component input for my E*, so I need a D* HD receiver with a DVI interface.

I know that each receiver has it's own pros and cons, but which so far has proven to be the best reliable or stable. And which receivers do I definitely want to avoid. Finally, besides Ebay, where can I buy the receiver without having to worry about committing for 12 months of service or being able to turn up the receiver b/c it may have a balance or other issues that belonged to the prior customer.

I am still unsure as to where this talk of trying to get a deal through Directv comes from. Threatening to cancel service may have some merit, but for anyone who has had it less than the year comittment that is out the window.

I have been a Directv customer in two locations for well over 3 years, I called and they said they do not give special deals no matter how long you have been around. I called back again to get a "second opinion", and i got the same response. I doubt that it is really that possible to "get a deal" becuase you have been a customer for a long time.

Pretty much any reciever you buy from a retail store will require a 1 year contract to be signed and on file (ABT, CC, BB, all of them require a contract). Maybe if you find it on Ebay or something you can get a deal, but after buying a few hundred various items on ebay, i am not all that satisfied with the quality and condition of things sometime. Point is don't toss up any money (especially with those con artists at paypal) that you do not mind getting screwed out of.

If you need sunday ticket and can't live with a year contract get ready to pay at least 150% of the new subscriber price for a reciever. I am sure other folks here have some places online that may be cheaper and not require a contract.

The only reason Directv gave me the deal on an HD box like they did was because I had an honest cable company deal that would have pulled me away. I called to actually cancel and the Directv rentention CSR said "What would it take to keep you as a customer?" I told them I needed an HD box and he offered it for free, I didn't ask for it for free.

Your only other option would be ebay or buying it at a retailer. In either case though when you go to activate it they most likely are going to ask you to commit to a one year contract.

Back in Feb this year I upgraded to a HD box through the Customer Retention. They gave me the box for $99, at the time I think they were still selling at Best Buy and Circuit City for $599. The box is a Samsung SIR-TS160, I believe the 360 has replaced my unit now. The box has given me no problems at all, so if the new Samsung is as good or better I could easily recommend it. The caller ID feature is great too.

The $99 deal worked out like this if I remember correctly.
I paid $499 for the box but received a $400 credit on my Direct TV Bill. So I guess the box in reality cost more than $99 but you see what I mean. Never tried the threat to cancel (=free box) but I wonder if I can get a free HD-Tivo if I try it :) .

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.
