I have been with Cablevision for some years not and I am assessing a change to DirecTV. I like DirecTV right now for HD-Sci-Fi. But this Multi-room Dish DVR has me curious.

1. How many cables get run to the Dish DVR?

2. It can be accessed from different rooms without cabling?????

3. Dual tuner???...and how many hours recording capacity.

4. Stability? My oold experience with Dish Network was poor. My DVR lost recording too often.

5. I live in zip code 07840. What slots (or specifically degrees of the sky) will I need to see for all programming with the HD channels?
Will I need 2 dishes?

6. I use a cell phone. will I need a landline for DISH

7. As an old subscriber am I able to get cheap or free HD/DVR receivers/Install?

1. I have 1 cable coming from my dish and then they split it into 2 at the 722 DVR and connect to it. I also have 1 cable coming from my OTA antenna.

2. Not sure what you mean here. There is an RG6 cable that runs from the 722 to my second TV but the remote works via RF so it can be accessed.

3. 350 hours SD and 55 hours HD plus you can connect external hard drives and move shows to it. I guess you could say unlimited.

4. Mine has been very stable. Much more so than my Motorola cable box I used to have.

5. Dunno

6. Either a landline or ethernet connection if you have broadband to avoid a $5 fee. I saw a device called a Talk-N-Dock that might work for you too. It allows you to dock your cell phone and use your normal house phones to call out and receive calls. Maybe you could also hook your DVR to it.

7. Dunno. I'm new to E*.

BTW, here is a link to the product sheet on the VIP722.

1. In most circumstances, only one cable needs to be installed to supply satellite signals to dual-tuner DVRs.

2. There still needs to be at least a minimum physical connection between the DVR and TV2. There are some wireless options such as an AV Sender but that is best avoided if possible.

3. Dual Tuner means the receiver can pick up two separate satellite stations at one time. The receiver can use one for TV1 and another for TV2, or useful for an easy PIP setup or watch and record separate programming. The number of hours depends on the unit you get. 722 and 622 units can have a separate USB external hard drive added for even greater capacity.

4. Dish's earliest DVRs were not very reliable. Since then they have come along a great way and as a tech I've seen few issues relating to faulty DVRs. Quality of Service is going to depend heavily on the installation. A bad install and you will have problems forever, a good install will last a long time without trouble. You are best off to contact a local retailer. I think you can call Dish and ask them for a good retailer in your area. I believe they refer the retailers who have few issues such as unsatisfied customers, service calls, etc.

5. You will need 119 and 110 and either 129 or 61.5 for HD. Whether you will need 61.5 or 129 will depend on what satellite DISH has placed your locals on and where other things like your Regional Sports Network is on. If you call DISH, they should be able to tell you what satellites are needed, or someone here who can look that up might reply.

6. Dish Network does not require a landline. However, in the case of a dual-tuner, you can get that fee for the second room waived if the receiver is connected to a phone line. Other users here are reporting that fee being waived if the receiver is connected to a broadband connection. E.g., 722 connected via cat5e to your broadband router.

7. This is also why you will want to talk to a local retailer. Be upfront and let them know you were a sub in the past and they can usually build an account for you.
F
1. I have one cable run to the back of my receiver and then split right before both wires go into the receiver.
2. I have the second tuner running through my existing cable line to the second room and then the second remote works it from there.
3. For Dual Tuner it means I can watch something on my tv in the living room and something else on my TV in the bedroom at the same time off of one receiver. I can also record something downstairs and watch it on the TV upstairs since I am going to the same Hard Drive.
4. My DVR has been very stable. Very happy with it.
5. I think you will need the second dish at 61.5 to get HD.
6. You don't need a landline, but you will have to pay the $5 phone line fee. Otherwise you can connect your high speed internet to the receiver and avoid that fee.
7. My brother just signed back up and was a former customer. He still got a free HD DVR and install.

good luck with that... most of the time when you call dish and ask for a retailer... they will try to sell you right there.
Why pay a retailer for a sale when they have you on the phone :)

its aggrevating, but I have customers tell me all the time that dish is our biggest competition.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

That's not really unusual. Cable companies like to the provide the box too. The phone company provided the phones in until the government forced them to allow third-party phones.

LOL. It depends if the person saw it during the years when they were actually still available which is 1968 to 1983 meaning the person could be 43-58 years old or they can even be a few years old if they learned to read and write at a young age and actually saw a telephone with that label somewhere recently just like even here in San Francisco, payphone still exist physically in public places but whether they can be used or not is a different issue. It still looks like this even today:

I opened my Radio Shack in Sept 1984 and right about that time they did the whole deregulation thing with the phone companies. I bought TONS of those phones that had been refurbished with a new outer shell. You could throw one of those out of a 3 story high window and it would still work.
That was an interesting time in history. I would have older customers come in and ask about phones.....they were terrified that they were going to get into trouble hooking up a second phone without the phone company knowing about it. One of the funniest episodes of WKRP was the one where Johnny thought the cops were showing up because they had an unregistered phone. I guess younger folks can't conceive of a time when you were limited to the number of phones you could have in your house....and limited to the length of the cord 🤣

That's one of those songs that hits a little too close to home for me. I like the song but just can't listen to it. It's kinda like that song "Daddy never was the Cadillac kind".....reminds me too much of my Grandfather who died Feb 18, 1995.

My OTA is not working anymore. This started after the latest update. I have the OTA dongle with a OTA antenna that I've been using for years. My hopper does not recognize the dongle anymore and when I go to the OTA setting, it has a screen that says to plug a dongle into the USB. I tried unplugging and plugging back, in the same usb port and other ports. The Hopper does not recognize it. Anyone have same issue?

Did you people having this issue contact Brittany yet? Shes trying to keep track of things and it would be good for you to contact her as maybe she can get this somewhere and get fixed.

Now while unofficial, I am hearing this issue wasn't caused by DISH's software team, but was caused by a chipset driver update that seemes to have hosed some older USB devices. If this is indeed the case I can see why DISH didn't know and why they are slow in fixing it as they need the chipset company to fix its drivers and release them to DISH so they can be pushed out to all.

DISH does not hate you guys nor do they want you to buy new USB dongles. I am rather sure they didn't even know this was an issue until they saw it posted.

Again contact Brittany if you are having this issue, so she has your info and hopefully she can do something for you to keep you happy. :)

Thanks, but until they do, can't Dish just revert to the old driver that worked? Then test the new driver when delivered,d before pushing it again.

But then what does an old CIO know! I've only reamed quite a few buttholes from my people that didn't do that! ;)

They can absolutely put the old driver back if they wanted. This is an embedded software environment in which they have total control. All they have to do if build a new version of firmware with the old OTA driver and test it of course. They just don't want to spend the resources doing so. If they are not going to continue supporting the single tuner adapter, then they have to say so.

Unless of course they didn't keep a copy of the old drivers and can no longer get it. Then there is always the their support for the product is EOL after a x amount of time so it will make the consumer have to buy the current product offering.

No updates but if you can get DISH Technical Operations to roll you back to H710 or earlier even though H708 would be best because it also eliminates another problem like in this comment, you will also no longer have the problem as long as you don't update manually or forced to any new version until the problem is fixed as the problem started in H711 and still exist in H712 and H713.

Installed an off-air antenna a couple days ago for a customer who had just cancelled his Dish service. He had a dual off-air adapter and gave it to me. Cool. I'll keep it on the truck....might come in handy. Got to admit I don't watch anything as far as live tv goes anymore. Even if we have severe weather, our local channels will have a live feed on Youtube.

In other news, it was announced that the software fix for the two tin cans and a string will not be forthcoming. A hardware fix is required. However, that fix will let you receive stations from a gazillion miles away.

Truck roll charges may apply. Two year commitment required.

DEATH TO NEXGEN!

17 years ago the US turned off analog OTA signals in favor of digital broadcasting. Now the push is ATSC 3 "Nextgen TV". But nobody seems to be able to agree on DRM implementation protocols. People don't want to hook their TV up to the internet in order to watch over the air TV. At least I don't. With all the data they collect about your viewing habits the box should be given away at no cost.

It's dead, they just don't know it yet. They killed it by forcing DRM on it, and that TOTALLY botched implementing it.

There is absolutely NO compelling reason for anybody to switch to ATSC3.0. They only want it as a total and complete money grab.
