I keep seeing post saying something to the effect, "Dish is probably waiting for the CES to...[fill in the blank]". This is usually in relation to new features, channels, equipment, customer offers, etc.

I looked throught the Dish Channel Chart changes logs going back to 2001. I cannot find even one instance of something super-significant actually happening for CES. I look and I see lots of releases for what Dish PLANS to do, but never anything substancial.

Last year Charlotte HD locals were made available in Jan 20 and A&E HD became available on Jan 30. Neither were in conjunction with CES. At the same time BET was removed from the Dish Latino packages and Current was added to the line-up.

Really, with the exception of 2006 when the FamilyPack came around just before Dish's largest single price increase in their history, there has been nothing super interesting in January. That is unless you want to count the Lifetime Networks disaster with resulted in Oxygen being added in January 2006 as well :)

Or the Viacom Disaster in January 2004?

In 2002 there were a ton of local channels added courtesey of the Congress, the FCC and the SHVIA. Not CES

So do we REALLY expect Dish to do anything like the announcement of 157,254 new HD channels? I don't. But what do I know.

See ya

LEts see Hall, the 722 came true. I am watching it right now . The external hard drive support came true. I have two externals right now on two of my receivers. The dvr advantage plan came true . My second DISH account has it for top 250 . The 612 didn't premier yet , but I see no reason for a single output dvr since we have the 622 /722 that can do the same thing in single mode.

As to the reason why the satellites haven't been launched yet, and they are ready to go , has been widely talked about. The launch sites that were supposed to launch the satellites had a rocket explosion that put all satellites launches behind. Even Directv has been effected by this and their second sat that will bring more locals has been delayed. Funny you talk about company plans announcements. Directv's latest sat that was launched this year and was supposed to provide hd locals had a failure as well. The national conus beams worked for national channels but not for locals. And yet I don't hear any one screaming about where's my locals ? Although they did screwup and take out the ota tuner in their latest hd receivers - jumped the gun on that one. But yes all companies are subject to "glitches" or unforseen circumstances out of their control.

As to the reason I think we will see those plans come true, Charlie publicly said last month that DISH will launch 3 sats in 2008. One will be the replacement for the 129 sat. HE also said this month that DISH will have 100 hd dmas or cities in 2008 . This goes hand in hand with what was posted they will have with the mpeg4 service. DISH has to compete with more hd. There is no reason that they won't do just that, once the new sats are launched in the spring and the spare sats doing nothing, are moved to new slots. Possibly the new slots at 86.5 and 97 as Scott G. speculated they would use. The fact that Echostar has a VIP service at the 85 slot doing just what CHarlie said they would do with a relaunch of DISH leads me to think that those slots maybe right? Look at the satellite part where they list the 85 slots.

Did anyone catch what they're calling the birds at 85 and 105? There's 2 listed for 85, one of them shows as ViPTV 85, and the other is Echostar XVI as in Echostar 16. At 105 it shows Echostar XV or Echostar 15. What gives?

Anyone remember when Dish first started rolling out the 921 and they had that special deal where you could purchase one of two pretty lame HDTV sets to go along with it? As I recall they announced that at CES, as well as introducing their HD roadshow van which went around the country that year to fairs and tradeshows. That was back in 2003 IIRC.

I know I am not quite sure why one is called VIP and the other Echostar except it looks suspciously like the same slot or near enough at 86.5, that DISH will use for the relaunch of DISH in mpeg 4. Maybe the Vip is just for the cable end companies to use and the Echostar 16 will be used for DISH? I don't see any mention of 97, which was supposed to be the other sat slot used in the relaunch. Either way if they use the 85 slot it covers the entire U.S., Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico and Cuba. Looks like a great slot for the relaunch. IF they can indeed fit upto 200 hd channels on this sat along with all the rest of the existing programming that is up there now, no one should have a signal strength issues . Although I believe they are using Ku instead of dbs. This is why I wish Charlie would give us some details because this looks good for the future if it is connected to the relaunch of DISH in mpeg 4.

Has Dish mentioned anything at all on what they may do with the Sky Angel sat. that belongs to Dish?? I woner if that sat. may come into play for us in 2008.

Good questions. Actually, despite promises to their supporters, Sky Angel never built their own satellite. They are only using 2 transponders on Echostar 3 in exchange for giving Dish 6 transponders whose bandwidth was formerly granted to Dominion (Sky Angel) by the FCC. I believe all those frequencies have now been transferred to Dish. Nevertheless, we're only talking about 2 transponders more than Dish has control of right now.

Now that I'm retired, obviously I have different health care insurance. I take 2 prescriptions. With my old insurance I didn't have to pay for either of them, now I do. It's not a huge amount but it led me to dig a little into the cost of prescription medications. I have been using Walgreens for the longest time. But what I found was that Walgreens price is 4.8 times more for one of my prescriptions and the other is 2.3 percent more compared to the lowest price pharmacy. If you pay for prescription medications you might want to have a look at trumprx and see if you can get a lower price.

I run them through several different providers to see who has the lowest cost

Usually it's Walmart or Sam's + GoodRx

Also...

You can also price them through the CareCard and WellRx apps.

Sometimes Amazon Pharmacy is cheapest.

TrumpRx?!?

I went on Medicare recently (not an "advantage" plan) and my prescriptions at HyVee were very low out of pocket. The clerk said she was putting them on "Good Rx".

I'm fortunate and don't take any medications. A couple years ago I had to take some antibiotics and used the GoodRx app. Went to Walmart and the person behind the desk knew me and told me to just buy them outright....the GoodRx price was a LOT higher. She said they aren't supposed to tell customers when they see they are being screwed.

Actually I take just 2 prescriptions, Atorvastatin and Lisinopril. They cost me $6 each for 100 pills. Next year that will be nothing.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

remembers when ATT had stores and leased home phones
dishstaller
My Wife was recently in an antique store and saw a rotary desk phone and it had one of those sticker overlays that had a business listed with phone number under each number on the dial. She looked closer and it had my old Radio Shack listed under the 8...she bought it. Pretty cool keepsake. Back then I rented vhs movies as well so I had it listed as Radio Shack / Movie Gallery and then the phone number.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

Week Six Balls and Goats and WTH is Going On in The NFL??

Browns. 1st place in the North. Yup. Believe it or not

Chiefs. Undefeated.

Titans. Won a game ! .... Colts I know, but still.

Saints. Won a game after a while.

Steelers. Having the same season they always have. They somehow find wins on their way to an unceremonial 1st round exit. Mike Tomlin is proud.

Cards. Won a game without scoring a single touchdown

Broncos. How they manage to win games with the dogshit offense they have should be studied.

Bears. Caleb's back and so is their mojo.

Goats

NFC East. For the 2nd straight week no team from this clown show of a division won a game. Eagles are cooked without Hurts. Who's not that good anyway. Commanders suck, Dallas is well ..... Dallas and the Giants have no QB.

Ravens. Lamar is out (as usual). But still. Losing to the Browns is never ok.

Chargers. Still can't win.

Rams. So much for the powerhouse team. They are 2 games under .500

Seattle. Lost to the offenseless Broncos.

Jerry made himself General Manager after he bought the team but make no mistake Jimmy engineered that trade. As well as a lot of others at the time.

Jimmy Johnson is a football guy. Jerry Jones is a marketer (hustler).

When I see a football player get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (like taunting) in a close game, I often wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking, I'm doing everything I can to make this a better team and help win a championship? Or, was he saying to himself, I want everyone to notice how great I am?

Johnson inspires one, Jones the other.

I haven't posted in almost 17 years. Over the air, sat, offline, anything-but-the-internet is still one of my avid pursuits. Been playing with offline tv viewing and offline web browsing. I have great appreciations for this site still being here. It's so hard to find public communities that haven't sold out to social media company.
