They have the space allocationed for those two channels on 110.

They are negotiating with the channel provider. Currently the price asked is too high. That "price" might incldue mandatory carriage of other channels that Dish does not want at this time.

Did I really have to spell this out?..

Yep, when you make statements like "FiOS is going to kick satellite's ass..and I am in the satellite business...". Kind of hard to kick a** when you have such a limited coverage area like FIOS will have compared to satellite.

I guess it's a requirement to quantify every sentence, huh?
I am also in the satellite bus..But Fiber is the future. Mark my words.. 3 years ago nobody thought DSL was going to reach rural areas. Now I am doing Windstream sales partner Dish installs out in the rural areas AND the customers are getting DSL with the bundle.
Oh eventually FTH will become more widespread. And I will be ready to go. I'll be leaving satellite for good.
Another thing. This applies to my area. There is an entire untapped market in certain areas of Charlotte due to heavy tree cover. A very large area for that matter that is so hevaily wooded, satellite isn't a possibility. Lots of these folks are no doubt pining to get away from cable and Uverse will be that option. I intend on getting into that when is is offered this year.

Maybe in Verizon areas (but I doubt it) but very limited in AT&T and I've not seen any mention of Qwest rolling out FTTP. As for your rural DSL example, come down to Texas and show me the same thing since it's not happening here.

If you're looking for Uverse to be your savior if you're intersted in HD then dream on. Currently all they can do is ONE HD stream into a home and later in this year they'll start doing upgrades to allow for two or three concurrent HD streams. Oh boy a whole three HD streams and that's the future, don't think so. Now if Uverse is all you can get you'll probably be happy with that but if you have an alternative who'd want something with as many limitations that Uverse comes with.

I think you should think about becoming a bit more melodramatic

The point is though, it doesnt matter how good it is if you cant get the market penetration.

Can't?..Who says they "can't"?....FTH is in its infancy. The two telcos no doubt are penetrating those markets most likely to make them the most money. As with cable, FTH will expand as technology allows. This from a Verizon engineer.
Question for you and others on the other side of this issue, Why so cynical? Are you afraid of additional competition for satellite?
I am in the sat bus and I welcome it.
I maintain that FTH is the future.

Cynical, nope, just a realist. And what two phone companies are doing FTH? I'm only aware of Verizon activly persuing this option. AT&T does go FTTP for SOME new subdivisions and is NOT replacing copper with fiber to the home. Even for the AT&T areas that have fiber they're still limiting serivces to exactly the same services that homes could get on copper service. If you check AT&T has said over and over again that they have no plans to do a Verizon FIOS type implementation and using copper and ADSL2 will meet their needs.

If ANYONE would run any media to my home that provided me all the channels that I can get from D* at a reasonable price I have no problems giving them a chance. Now why can't you look at this logically and admit that everyone will not have fiber run to their homes anytime in the reasonable near term future.

What are we talking about, advances in fiber technology or the rollout of fiber to all homes? I never said that fiber technology won't make advances, all I've said it won't make the penetration levels that you're saying. Show me some facts that it shows ANY company saying they're going to roll out fiber to all their customers for the entire country. Hell, just show me something that says Version is going to roll out FIOS to all their customer premises.

I know of places that don't even have Verizon DSL yet.

Yeah, I'm one and I'm fairly close to Washington DC inside the beltway. This neighborhood is 28,000 ft from our CO, so of course nobody offers DSL here. Verizon has been teasing me for years with the "FIOS is HERE" direct mail campaign. FIOS is not here. One might suppose that Verizon would have a clue about which neighborhoods really really need it and go here first. Not a chance. Wealthy neighborhood too.
J
FIOS is not going to kick anyone's butt, let alone DirecTV, until they get their act together. Recently they have run out of receivers, then they tried to be slick and not give up the promised 19 in. HDTVs. Give me good ol; reliable DirecTV!!

The price Charlie wants is FREE and that is why you won't see that or msg-hd, or yes network in any form soon.

Dish is in the process of realigning ALL its satellites and carriages.

When it is finished a much more logical and operable system will be beneficial to all.

Just throwing up more channels now would require them all to be moved and dishes exchanged, etc.

If you ponied up for an iPhone Duo, keep it away from anything other than your soft, fleshy fingertips. No fingernails, no dust, sand, dirt, or other particulate matter. And don't bend it more than it needs to. Zack has destroyed $2,000 of Apple hardware to get those views, which should cover his expenses.

Aka "mail" or "maille".

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Don't know if any of you have watched this series yet, it would be interesting to see if you feel this review was accurate. It was very humorous to listen to however.

If the review is like the article, oi! Eighteen paragraphs into the review and... all they've done is not really talk at all about the actual thing they are reviewing.

Halfway into the "written" review, I know more about how the writer "thinks" than I do about what they are writing about. I understand their politics, their self-overestimated understanding of film, their inability to be funny.

Takes about 22 paragraphs to get to one that starts "Anyway, the story kicks off...". Talk about Slop! 😂

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

I'm sure I will watch at least the first episode but I am not optimistic.
Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Say, I don't wear socks or shoes in my house either. But for a captain in Star Fleet it looks bad to be walking around the academy with no shoes. Gives off 1960 Hippie vibes.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
