Specifically, using one CPU and one dedicated chip to transfer I/O to a hard drive, which makes a one-box DVR less expensive. Remember, using 2 VCR's is not the same as doing this in a single, integrated box, with specific components. That is why most people in the older days wanted someone to build a "better mousetrap", as that would more than likely make the patent holder more money.

The mind still boggles. Sarcasm follows (not directed at you, Greg, but at the PTO).

I shall now patent "Space Warp" technology, where we combine 2 of anything into one box, while eliminating redundant components (and charging less). Never mind whether our combo product is any good. Never mind whether anybody wants to buy it. We don't need a good product; we don't even need profits! We'll just sue the living daylights out of anybody who tries to use our patented Space Warp technology. They stole our idea.

Remember, it is specific components and processes that make up a patent.

I realize some functions and rules of the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) can occasionally be hard to swallow, but this isn't a new problem. For example, two people walked into the PTO and filed on the same day, for a similar invention to improve communications. And yet only Alexander Graham Bell was given a patent for the telephone. That patent was disputed by Elisha Gray for some time.

I thought the supreme court ruled a couple months ago that obvious combining of two things into one is not granted patent law protections in terms of preventing others from making other devices that do the same thing. Or, I think it had to do with whether or not the idea for such a thing existed elsewhere before someone made it.

You cannot take two patents and then patent that combination as a separate patent. This is as far from what the Time Warp patent is all about.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

Jerry made himself General Manager after he bought the team but make no mistake Jimmy engineered that trade. As well as a lot of others at the time.

Jimmy Johnson is a football guy. Jerry Jones is a marketer (hustler).

When I see a football player get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (like taunting) in a close game, I often wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking, I'm doing everything I can to make this a better team and help win a championship? Or, was he saying to himself, I want everyone to notice how great I am?

Johnson inspires one, Jones the other.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Paramount+

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Say, I don't wear socks or shoes in my house either. But for a captain in Star Fleet it looks bad to be walking around the academy with no shoes. Gives off 1960 Hippie vibes.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

If the review is like the article, oi! Eighteen paragraphs into the review and... all they've done is not really talk at all about the actual thing they are reviewing.

Halfway into the "written" review, I know more about how the writer "thinks" than I do about what they are writing about. I understand their politics, their self-overestimated understanding of film, their inability to be funny.

Takes about 22 paragraphs to get to one that starts "Anyway, the story kicks off...". Talk about Slop! 😂
