Some may want to know that Green Bay, WI and Grand Rapids, MI are in this update. They are in area 4. You may note that the channels listed in the report were added on the March 5 report. The blooper was caused by the channels having duplicate numbers.

It is quite possible that some cities will be carried by both systems. Dallas is on 110 and now on 61.5.

Huh?

Of course Dish will need to keep some DMA's HD Locals, like Dallas (and Houston), on two sats for a short time while they implement the Eastern Arc. But longer term, why would Dish waste precious transponders duplicating Dallas (and Houston) HD Locals on 61.5 and 110?

Well Dallas HD Locals are on spot beam on 110. They are not taking up any extra space. It looks like they want to have 2 systems set up, if you cannot see 110/119/129 you might be able to see 61.5/72.5/77

From what I've read spot beams reuse the same transmission frequencies by limiting their reception area. But AFAIK transmitting HD Locals from a satellite requires some of that satellites capacity ("space") whether or not the transmission is "on Spot Beam". Are you saying that if Dish removed the Dallas (and/or Houston) HD Locals from 110 there would not be any capacity freed up for other channels (e.g. other HD Locals or HD Nationals) to be added to 110?

FWIW The Dallas and Houston DMAs are between 92-98 degrees longitude with very flat terrain. 110 has easy LOS compared to 61.5 for all but the most LOS challenged (e.g. tall trees, buildings, etc).

Yes they reuse the same frequencies again and again over different areas of the country. If you turned off the Dallas HD channels on spot beams, you would not be able to add national HD because the frequencies used for Dallas are already being used in other parts of the country for their local channels.

The only possible benefits would be those mentioned above, perhaps another DMA under the Dallas spot (adjacent DMA) could be carried with the freed up space.

Also Dallas is a very large DMA, it would cost a lot to have to send out technitions to all the installations and replace the dishes to point to 61.5. I view the 61.5 solution as something for new customers.

It better be available to all of us. New customers can't be the only ones getting the new MPEG 4 system. They have to upgrade the rest of us. So, they must duplicate everything and make it available to all who want it. If they dont I will go to D* because E* will give me no choice. If I am stuck with the 110/119/129 my Hd possibilities are more limited compared to the MPEG 4 system. I thought Eastern Arc would be for everyone. If it is not then what good is it?

John,

I am curious about you stating that Grand Rapids, MI is in this update. Where are you seeing the GR channels??? I have looked at the current date and all of the uplinks for March 5 and am not seeing any of the locals for Grand Rapids.

Thanks,
Geoff

Checking the current and previous reports, you will find the 5160 and 5170 channel groups are listed as the same on both except for the Tp and spotbeam area. I forget which group of those on the current report is actually Grand Rapids and the other is Green Bay located in area 4.

Would Dallas be part of Eastern Arc or the more nefarious Western Arc that has not been substantiated yet? I ask this because Texas is typically considered a western state even though geographically it kind of sits right on the line...

The time zone may be somewhat the separator. It has always seemed as though Dallas was considered in the Eastern half of the ConUS. One should not consider a "New Service" to exclude current customers. One should expect to pay to switch or add, though. It is way too early to be throwing out barbs about the "Eastern Arc" as it is in no way clear what it will consist of. It is somewhat clear that the new HD locals on 61.5 spots could be part of the existing service and part of "Eastern Arc". They would not take down Dallas on 110 without a failure as it would be very costly.

BTW: E* and D* were given permission this week to downconvert the local digital channels which will be the only locals after early 2009. Cable was not given this blessing. Expect prices for locals to go up anyway as a whole new round of POP equipment will be needed.

First, I think it highly likely that the "new MPEG4 service" will be entirely compatible with the existing Dish Network service in the same way that you can receive and subscribe to "All American" distant network channels on Dish receivers.

So, any channel on the "new MPEG4 service" are very likely to also be available to any Dish Network customer with a "VIP" receiver (the ones that currently receive HD MPEG4 channels).

Often people who have organic vision or hearing activated as adults after never having had it cannot practically utilize it because their brains never developed the massive neural network needed to make sense of any of it.

My son is rg colorblind, but we found there are degrees. If something is vivid red or green, he can see a hint of color. I bought him a pair of the glasses when they first came out. He said they did improve things slightly, but not to the extent they are being touted. I think they are sitting in a drawer somewhere.

It looked like there were at least three iterations to try to match up to the given individual deficit, and a test to take to determine which would best help. But at best they seem a marginal measure and not practical.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'd probably say when they came up with their M-series of processors with integrated memory. That allowed Apple to get away from the inefficient Intel CPUs that were limiting their notebook computers.

Report on my iphone 18 PM
Working well with about 3-4 days battery life. New BT and Wifi range is much better than the 15 I had. It doesn't seem any faster but probably is. The Camera shooting video has amazing image stabilization.
Only observed issue is once in awhile, the screen loses touch sensitivity and requires a soft reboot and delete the many open apps to fix. This happens about once a week since buying it.

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

If you know the folks who have fiber, strike a deal with them and pay for a Wavlink AX3000. I've installed these for customers and they will light up abut 10 acres. One customer is linking her security camera to it and the cam is about 1,000 ft from the radio. These are also usable as repeaters so you could install one at your house for that purpose. Heck, offer to pay 75% of their monthly bill if that's what it takes.

People that Own the poles ?
That would be ATT Or the Power Company depending on the situation ... easily figured out by looking at the Tag on All Poles.

Might not be an option, due to easements. I can't see governments allowing public property (easements) for exclusive use by just one company.

Just did the update check manually about an hour ago with Hopper 3 on H713 and Hopper Plus on P15403.
Noticed something new when I clicked on the Update Software, it presented a pop-up as follows:
"Update software 1573
Update later Update now Cancel" with those three buttons which did not exist before.

After updating the H715 - I guess there must be major bugs as both H709 and H714 were skipped.

So here are the issue(s):

Issue #1
It did fix the problem with H713 which was:
"One of the problems I am seeing is that the Available Joey Software section no longer is showing the Android TV versions even after a manual software reset twice and the nightly reboot. Until it does, nether Technician Android TV download and Hopper Plus is able to check, download and update the Android TV software."

This was a major problem with H703.

H710 removed that dependency so H711 and H712 were working without that dependency but H713 brought it back which is fixed in H715 as no P versions or Android TV versions are shown in the Available Joey Software on the main Diagnostics screen.
However, with that said, the TECHNICIAN SETTINGS, Download ATV (Android TV) Files is not working correctly as the Download ATV Files shows:
"Download ATV Files 3000
Download in progress. This operation will be
complete when the files are downloaded

Joey 4 : P554- Failed
Joey 4 : P55403- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P654- Failed
Wireless Joey 4 : P65403- Complete
HopperPlus : P154- Complete
HopperPlus : P15403- Failed

OK"
From what I can tell, each of them goes through the Downloading followed by the Processing stages first before it goes into the Failed or Complete stage. It seemed to be going in a loop earlier as it will start downloading from the first item being the Joey 4 each time before it eventually stopped. This is the first time ever since 2023 that I had ever seen it Failed.

With that said, the dependency appears to still be required for the Hopper Plus to check, download and update the Android TV software as it says Failed, No Target when going to "Device Preferences", About, "Software Update"

Issue #2
Still cannot cast to Hopper 3 with Hopper Plus(Software P15317) with the Hopper Plus "Google Chromecast Built-In" feature" as it shows up as a casting device when the Hopper Plus is online and disappears when the Hopper 3 and Hopper Plus does it's nightly reboots but times out when one tries to cast to it and always shows up as Not available in the Google Home app on Android phone. No one else anywhere on the internet had confirmed whether it is working for them or not. Per brittanygarden in DM on October 16, 2026:
"We've been working with Google on this. We have a fix on the Google side projected for Q4. I know we're in Q4 now, but I will try to get a narrowed down timeline for you."

brittanygarden and Rick Durham

jsmit86 and naptime - If you are able to use H715, does the issue mentioned below still exist?
I have not been updated to 715 yet. I am on a QE "Beta" or Test version that did fix the audio issue. The last communication I had with the team mentioned that the full release of that fix was likely in December.
It would be nice to know if 715 does solve that issue of no audio when Dolby is ON, during 4K HDR events.

They don't care... they're milkin' the cow. Buddying up with Elon to provide him an MVNO network will make their investors and shareholders salivate. All of their recent marketing efforts have failed, so this move makes a lot of sense.

Mr. Morris is no journalist. That article reads like a political hit job.

Yep, they could stick it in with thier other dozen or so MVNO's, including the five they own.

You can say that for about 90% of so-called news articles these days.

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Chia Seeds
Kinda the whole idea is to mention something and explain WHY it is something we might want to add to our daily routine.
This is what I got from google. Looks like I'm going to be adding them, thanks

Key Health Benefits
    • Digestive Health: One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides nearly 10 grams of fiber, which promotes regular bowel movements, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and helps prevent constipation. [1, 2]
    • Heart and Cardiovascular Support: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)—an essential plant-based omega-3 fatty acid—chia seeds can help lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, and improve cholesterol profiles. [1, 2, 3]
    • Blood Sugar Regulation: The combination of soluble fiber and protein slows down carbohydrate digestion, preventing sharp blood sugar spikes after meals. [1, 2]
    • Weight Management: When soaked in liquid, chia seeds absorb up to 10 to 12 times their weight in water. The resulting gel expands in the stomach, increasing feelings of fullness and curbing appetite. [1, 2, 3]
    • Bone Strength: They contain high levels of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are vital for maintaining bone density. [1, 2, 3]
    • Antioxidant Protection: Compounds like chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid help fight cellular damage from free radicals and reduce chronic inflammation. [1, 2, 3]

I have taken this stuff for years to help my joints. Over 20 yrs ago my shoulder sounded like it had gravel in it when I rotated it. Started taking this and after a few months I had my range of motion back. I mentioned this product to a doctor and told him the results I had and he totally blew it off....said it was just a coincidence. This has no shellfish like most joint supplements.

This would be good for me being I am allergic to shellfish. I have arthritis bad in my right sholder.

I have tried the pill form and this liquid form and found the liquid to be far superior. It wasn't immediate, my joints slowly improved over time.

Another supplement I wanted to mention was Luteolin. This has two major benefits
1) it helps improve your memory
2) it has a unique anti-greying affect. Saw a Daily Mail news story about a year ago I guess and they were testing different antioxidants on black mice and found that the ones they gave luteolin to barely greyed at all where the control group greyed normally. Has something to do with this stuff preventing the hair roots from becoming damaged which is one of the causes of going grey.

Now I've been taking this supplement for a long time and at 62 I barely have any grey hairs at all.
If it would only help improve my ability to remember NAMES!!

It's too late for me. My hair is all gray.

Well, besides Luteolin, which I already mentioned. I also take Creatine which helps with memory and mental fatigue. It also helps with faster recovery times when doing hard physical labor, or workouts.
