ESPN - Favre says Goodell has reinstated him, will fly to Green Bay - NFL

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated Brett Favre on Sunday, the three-time MVP told ESPN's Ed Werder.

The Packers couldn't confirm the reinstatement, and said because it wasn't an offical business day for the league it wasn't possible Sunday.

Nevertheless, Favre was prepared Sunday to fly to Green Bay.

ESPN's Wendi Nix reported from Green Bay that Favre's plane was scheduled to touch down at 6:30 ET, though he didn't plan to attend the sold-out Packers Family Night at Lambeau Field, which more than 60,000 fans were expected to attend.

Packers officials planned to greet Favre upon his arrival to Green Bay. Favre was expected to report to training camp Monday by 1 p.m. ET, when the Packers say they will be prepared to make a roster move.

On Saturday, Goodell said he hoped the situation would be resolved by Monday, by which team and league sources told ESPN's Wendi Nix that he was expected to act on the reinstatement.

Goodell visited the Cincinnati Bengals' training camp on Saturday before heading north to Canton, Ohio, for the weekend's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

"I'm not trying to interject myself," Goodell said in Georgetown, Ky., according to The Associated Press. "I was interjected into it because there was a tampering charge initially. I'm not looking for things to interject myself to. It's an issue that needs to be addressed because of the competing interests. You want to make sure it's done properly and within our rules. This is an issue that ultimately has to be decided between Brett and the Packers."

The Packers hold Favre's rights until his current contract expires after the 2010 season.

Tensions have built between Favre and the team over the past several weeks.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy again praised his players for not allowing the Favre situation to distract them.

"What's going on between Brett and the organization is something that the players and coaches, we cannot handle," McCarthy said Saturday. "We're not involved in it. I think they did a good job from a responsibility standpoint dealing with it for about two days, but the focus has been on improving."

Earlier this week, Favre sent a letter to Goodell requesting to be reinstated from the team's reserve/retired list. But Goodell has held off approving the request, hoping the two sides could resolve their differences.

"Primarily, it starts with the fact, does Brett want to play football?" Goodell said. "The second is, do the Packers want him to play for the Packers. Those are the two principal points that have to be resolved. And only two parties can make that determination, not me."

Goodell said both parties are being "reasonable."

"They're difficult, emotional issues," Goodell said. "They're important to the future of both of them."

People have to remember that Aaron Rodgers' contract ends at the end of the 2009 season. The Packers are fearful that if they allow Favre to comeback, Favre will retire after one or two more seasons, and Rodgers will bolt for another team at the end of his contract because the Packers went back on their word when they promised him the starting QB job.

The Packers believe that if they bring Favre back this year, they'll lose Favre and Rodgers by the end of next season.

Well, Rodgers has failed to beat out the old grey mare. Do you really want him?

Absolutely not. If I were Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy, I would take Favre back in a second. My goodness, the man finished 2nd in MVP voting last year.

But . . . . . I understand Thompson and McCarthy's thinking. I understand their perspective. If they bring Favre back, then Aaron Rodgers will lose all respect for the Packers organization. Favre will retire in a year or two and then Rodgers will leave when his contract is up because the Packers went back on their word when they promised him the starting job. Like I posted earlier, if Favre comes back as the starter this year, the Pack will lose both Favre and Rodgers by the end of the 2009 season.

It wasn't too late. If the GM had allowed him to come back, he would have been there for the start of camp. IMO, this really goes back to last year when Favre made a lot of noise about getting Randy Moss. Maybe back to when Thompson let both Marco Rivera and Wahle, their starting guards, go. TT is showing Favre who's boss. There's plenty of ego to go around in this deal, some of it Favre's, but that's no excuse for not having Favre back. Thompson wants his guys and Favre is not one of them, Rodgers is. That whole thing about a free and open competition for QB was BS from the start. Rodgers was their guy and he will be their guy 'cause Favre is gone. Good luck to Thompson and McCarthy. They'll need it after this 6-10 season because the torches and pitch forks might come out in GB.

i understand he is under contract. that, i believe became null and void when he retired. when he was reinstated, the contract kicked back in. only in sports could something like this happen. if i retired and decided 5 months later, i wanted my job back....i would either be told....we hired your replacement or if there is another suitable job in the company you are qualified for, we'll consider hiring you.

that's why i believe gb was in their rights to tell brett, come back if you want but there is no guarantee you'll get your job back. why should sports athletes be treated with kit gloves?

Lance,
you absolutely nailed it. :up I don't think there is any doubt that Favre would be the better quarterback THIS year. But, what about 2009 and beyond? IMO, hypothetically if Favre were to become the Packer starting QB............they lose Aaron Rodgers forever!

TT is showing who's boss? Yes he is, he IS the boss, Not Favre, Not Buss Cook, Not Deanna... Ted Thompson. McCarthy is the Head coach

Brett pretty much summed it up earlier, He was upset with Thompson beacuse he didn't hire his best bud Steve Mariucci as head coach. I though that was a great move.
What Mariucci did with Detroit we didn't need here.

As a long time Packers fan I've been through this with team in the past.

Anybody else remember when Vince Lombardi "retired" and suddenly "unretired"?
M
Certainly, he is the boss. I'm convinced this whole thing was a sham. They had no intention of ever letting Favre back on the field as a Packer. An abdominal strain to keep him off the practice field in GB? I have no doubt he'll pass his physical fine in New York. A shabby way to treat a player who has been with them 17 years, got the Pack to two Super Bowls and a league MVP along the way. They wouldn 't need to hire professional liar Ari Fleischer to advise them on how to handle this if they had just handled it truthfully and with a little respect to a Packer legend. Packer fans will remember Favre far longer than the new Gang Green- the Packer front office-Mark Murphy, Ted Thompson, and Mike McCarthy.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Finished season 3 last night. Still one of my favorite shows.

Anyone else wonder if there might be something else going on with Callum? Seems to me he has too much access to Russian intelligence.

Over the past few weeks, I have had problems connecting to streaming services (Netflix, HBO et al). When I go to the TV's native Channels, I have no problem. The Dish internet troubleshooter shows I have a good internet connection. I'm wondering whether it's an issue with my internet provider or a problem with the Dish software on the Hopper Plus. Anyone else seeing this?

I have a DISH Hopper 3 (Software H713) with Hopper Plus (Software P15403). I have not tried streaming services but I primarily watch TVB Jadeworld international package which is only available by streaming and when I have an issue, I usually have to go to a non-streaming satellite channel first before the streaming channels will work again. What software versions do you have and what is the error message if any are showing on your screen? or is that Dish downloading logo just stuck and never finishes?

I'm on H713 on the Hopper and P15403 on the Hopper Plus. It shows internet connection issues and doesn't finish loading the various services. I see the "loading circle going around. Sometimes I get a message saying that the service is having trouble loading my content and to check the internet connection.

Did it ever work correctly before? Hard to say what the problem is. Usually for streaming, it will show the Dish logo with lines sweeping down to show downloading, never seen the circle issue. Did you try a manual reboot, red button reset, power cord unplug/replug to see if it makes a difference.

Might be worth just to ditch the hopper plus. No issues here on h713

Buy a roku and dump the hopper plus you'll be better off. If you have a smart tv you don't need either one. No hopper plus here and no issues!!!
