Since I only joined the forum last week, I didn't see all the other Brett Favre threads from previous weeks or months. I sometimes like to post TV reviews of a major sports story. I didn't want to "hijack" the other thread(s).

As for Sandomir's article, his review of ESPN's coverage of the Favre story is analogous to how cable news sensationalizes major news stories. With the advent of text messaging, camera phones, voicemails, etc., are we in a media age in which info from those new technologies will be or should be used in sports stories?

If Brett Favre were to leave a voicemail message for Chris Mortensen, should Mort be permitted to use that on-air? Is everything or anything fair game?

These are the questions/comments I wanted to help generate with the start of this new thread. . . . . . an analysis I hope would go much beyond the scope and immediacy of just the Favre story.

Not sure of Mortensen's and Favre's relationship, but Favre should know that Mort is a journalist and what he says to him in a message will end up on ESPN. Unless he uses the "off-the-record" request, it should be assumed that a public figure talking to a journalist is subject to it being forwarded to media outlets.

Now if he wasn't a public figure, the rules are a bit different. I would expect the journalist to ask permission before using the material.

The way ESPN has covered this story has been totally overboard. But there is something about the way ESPN has covered the Favre story (along with the NFL Network) that seems different . . . even different than the Michael Vick dogfighting story from last year; even different than when T.O. had his summer spat with the Eagles in 2005.

Even though ESPN went overboard with those stories, it feels like they have hyped up this story even when there is no story to report. Like last year, Vick went through an actual criminal process. First, there was an investigation, then they searched his property, then there was an arraignment, then a plea, etc.

Now, the Favre story doesn't seem to have as many actual developments as previous stories ESPN has reported on. . . . yet they are still covering it.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks this story's coverage than those other aforementioned stories.

This should hit a lot of folks with a dose of reality. I can only imagine how much more common this will get as AI progresses.

I read several stories on this and most are clear as mud. They say a lot of the stolen bitcoin has been "locked out" and that everyone will be made financially whole. I guess time will tell if either of these statements are actually true.

The "Secure Asset Fund" had about $1 billion in reserves... in Bitcoin.

The fund started in 2018, so it may take a while to make investors whole, much less replenish the fund.

New report states 29% of vehicles being traded in are under water

It states the average amount they are under water is OVER $7,000. :eek

Personally, I tend to be the type that drives a vehicle for a lot of years....do my own oil changes and other fluid changes. Just replaced the spark plugs and a couple coils. Youtube is great for things like this.

Hopper 3 with Hopper plus internet connection problems

Over the past few weeks, I have had problems connecting to streaming services (Netflix, HBO et al). When I go to the TV's native Channels, I have no problem. The Dish internet troubleshooter shows I have a good internet connection. I'm wondering whether it's an issue with my internet provider or a problem with the Dish software on the Hopper Plus. Anyone else seeing this?

I have a DISH Hopper 3 (Software H713) with Hopper Plus (Software P15403). I have not tried streaming services but I primarily watch TVB Jadeworld international package which is only available by streaming and when I have an issue, I usually have to go to a non-streaming satellite channel first before the streaming channels will work again. What software versions do you have and what is the error message if any are showing on your screen? or is that Dish downloading logo just stuck and never finishes?

Did it ever work correctly before? Hard to say what the problem is. Usually for streaming, it will show the Dish logo with lines sweeping down to show downloading, never seen the circle issue. Did you try a manual reboot, red button reset, power cord unplug/replug to see if it makes a difference.

Might be worth just to ditch the hopper plus. No issues here on h713

Buy a roku and dump the hopper plus you'll be better off. If you have a smart tv you don't need either one. No hopper plus here and no issues!!!
