DISH NETWORK'S AGREEMENT WITH NBC UNIVERSAL OFFERS MORE THAN 800 HOURS OF HD COVERAGE OF THE 2008 BEIJING OLYMPIC GAMES

Satellite Provider Adds Two NBCU Specialty HD Channels, VOD During The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

Englewood, Colo. – August 6, 2008 – DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH), the nation's third-largest pay-TV provider and the digital transition leader, today announced its agreement with NBC Universal (NBCU) to add two high-definition specialty channels to its HD line-up solely dedicated to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The NBC Olympic Soccer Channel and NBC Olympic Basketball Channel will offer customers HD coverage of each sport for 24-hours per day during the Games.

In addition, DISH Network is offering a number of Video On Demand (VOD) titles produced by NBC Olympics for its millions of subscribers. With two dedicated HD channels, free VOD and NBCU's multichannel distribution, DISH Network offers its subscribers more than 800 hours of NBCU's HD 2008 Beijing Olympic Games content.

"We are excited to utilize the full-extent of our services to offer the best of NBCU's coverage of the Olympic Games for our subscribers," said Eric Sahl, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network. "DISH Network is a leader in sports and HD; our more than 800 hours of NBC's Olympic coverage demonstrates our ability to use our services to deliver live HD and recorded content, as well as daily highlights and recaps, to ensure our subscribers enjoy comprehensive coverage of the Games."

"What better way to feel the drama and excitement of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games than to experience them in HD," said Bridget Baker, president, TV Networks Distribution, NBC Universal. "We're proud to partner with DISH and offer their customers unprecedented HD coverage of the world's premier athletic event."

DISH Network will provide NBCU's HD sport-specific channels: NBC Olympic Basketball Channel (Ch. 98) and NBC Olympic Soccer Channel (Ch. 99) to many DISH Network subscribers, and can be found on the program guide under the call letters "OLYMPB." Each channel will broadcast 24-hours per day of HD content separated into two looping 12-hour blocks of Olympic basketball and soccer action.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will air on a number of NBCU's channels, which are carried by DISH Network. NBC HD will air 225 hours of HD content; USA HD will air 165 hours of HD content; CNBC HD will air 95.5 hours of HD content; and Universal HD (available to DISH Network subscribers in Platinum HD) will air 379 hours of HD content.

DISH Network is currently offering NBCU's free Video On Demand (DISH On Demand) content leading up to the summer games including 60 clips across several categories: Beijing 411; Meet the Athletes; and Team USA Preview. DISH On Demand is available by pressing the DVR button on your DISH Network remote control or by selecting the "TV Entertainment" section on DishHOME (Ch. 100). At the start of the Games, the In-Games package will feature daily highlights, in addition to access to the best events each day. Content includes overall daily highlights by sport (approximately 15 per day, some in HD), and "Rewind," approximately five to 10 of the best sessions/games per day.

DISH Network will offer customers NBC's foreign language coverage from Beijing with commentary in one of the host country's native tongues, Mandarin (Chinese), as well as Korean, for approximately six hours per day for each language during the Games. The Chinese broadcast will be offered on Ch. 664 under the "OLYMPC" call letters, and the Korean broadcast will be offered on Ch. 655 under the "OLYMPK" call letters, and are live beginning August 8, 2008.

It would be nice if DishHome showed 6 of the olympic channels at the same time, like they did 4 years ago.

Give em another day. The opening ceremonies are broadcast tonight; and the games really get underway tomorrow... let's see what happens then.

Well the E* release that started this thread seems to confirm that unless you opt for the Ultimate Package, you aren't going to see any of the Olympics broadcast on Universal HD. That's not like Dish with the last Olympics, and it sucks!

Yeah, I know I can sign up for the Ultimate Package for 3 months for free. However, you have to officially cancel at the end of the 3 months or it continues indefinitely at $10/month. If you do cancel, it costs you $5 to drop programming.

No wonder Dish is losing subs. I've been with them for 9 years and I'm not happy.
J
Any promotional offer when you cancel it there will not be a $5 "downgrade fee".
H
what's the deal with these two extra HD channels called OLMPS(ch 367) and OLMPB(ch 365)? i see unique HD olympic material here but i havn't heard anybody mention these channels.

If you ponied up for an iPhone Duo, keep it away from anything other than your soft, fleshy fingertips. No fingernails, no dust, sand, dirt, or other particulate matter. And don't bend it more than it needs to. Zack has destroyed $2,000 of Apple hardware to get those views, which should cover his expenses.

Aka "mail" or "maille".

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

Don't know if any of you have watched this series yet, it would be interesting to see if you feel this review was accurate. It was very humorous to listen to however.

If the review is like the article, oi! Eighteen paragraphs into the review and... all they've done is not really talk at all about the actual thing they are reviewing.

Halfway into the "written" review, I know more about how the writer "thinks" than I do about what they are writing about. I understand their politics, their self-overestimated understanding of film, their inability to be funny.

Takes about 22 paragraphs to get to one that starts "Anyway, the story kicks off...". Talk about Slop! 😂

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

I'm sure I will watch at least the first episode but I am not optimistic.
Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Stay out of my office. I rarely have shoes or socks on in the office. My office and business is at home though :clapping

Say, I don't wear socks or shoes in my house either. But for a captain in Star Fleet it looks bad to be walking around the academy with no shoes. Gives off 1960 Hippie vibes.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
