Installation Help for Maui Hawaii

Hello,
I am trying to install myself since there is no one on Maui to do installations. My question is , after going through all of the steps listed in manual I have no signal. Would it help me out to purchase a satelite finder from like say radio shack to help me out. Thank you all for all of the helpful information on this forum. I want to have only christian television in my household.

My opinion! NO!

When you get set to the settings on your list from Glorystar, mark the positions for azmith and elevation on the mount and post. Then sweep back and forth about +/- 10 degrees VERY slowly, watching the TV for signal (again wiith the recomended setup, watching for , I think it is, 3ABN, on lnb1. If you do not find any signal, I then lower the elevation on the dish about 3 or 4 degrees and VERY slowly sweep again. Then I go back up about 1/2 degree and sweep again - very slowly. You are sweeping a 20 degree arc. Repeat those steps. You may get as much as 10 degrees "too" high or 4 degrees "too" low - by the markings on the elevation on the dish! I have never had to work at this for more than about 10 to 15 minutes before I have the signal AND get it locked in. (The markings, for me, have been as much as 3 degrees low to 7 degrees high. Also IF your post is not perfectly plumb, you may be off more.) (Over 50 times setting up now!-- No, not just reseting from the wind!)

The MAIN thing is to go SLOW. It may take up to 3 seconds for the signal to show up on the meter on the TV! I have not had anywhere near as fast a setup with the squeally meters. You do not know what satellite you are on. Then you have to blind s=can to find out, then try to move the dish to the right one. The procedure Glorystar gives you puts you on the right satellite the first time!

Well, I am not in Maui but I have a similar problem. The instructions look simple enough and I think I have followed them pretty closely, I think. Anyway, just for grins for the initail setup I connected the long cable directly from the lbnf(#1) to the receiver. I pointed the dish in the general direction as told for my area, 131 degrees, 39 degrees elevation and 26.4 degrees, or just a little past the 25 degree mark for the skew. When I get the signal meters, it came up 70 strength and 0 quality. I have moved it back and forth quite a bit and up and down and strength has been up to 80. the most I have gotten on the quality is 10. Now granted this is my first attempt at this and I am working on my roof talking to my 7yo son on the radio for the readings. But like I said, the instructions seem simple enough but obviously I am missing something. Is there something obvious I to check for or should I give it up and call someone to come out and take a look at it. 3 trees later and I am getting the same result.

Take the receiver and a small TV up on the roof with you - you can't do the aiming by remote control with two people. Signal strength only tells you that the LNBF is in communication with the receiver. If you have signal strength at 40% or above you are OK. Look only for signal quality for aiming the dish. Move the dish very slowly!

I would say to read my post above -- with one exception. The last install I helped with I had to go down over 8 degrees to find the signal. The only time I went down more than about 3 degrees. Be sure to follow Brian's directions carefully, especially to get the channels on the receiver and have the right one tuned in. GO SLOW. If you go too fast, you probably will go past it and have to repeat. -and repeat, and repeat - then use words you don't know!

I did a cold setup 2 weeks ago. Eyeballed the level, had only the sun to give me south, was totally unsure of the elevation needed because they did not have a printout. I had the STB settings for 3ABN, and guessed on the skew. I had lock, following the above in 15 minutes, although I swept about 100 degrees, Retuned the skew, and then got TBN on LNB2. I had to reskew several times for optimal, as I did not have the settings for the dual holder (and probably was not level). Overall time was about 45 to 50 minutes.

The BIGGEST things are:
1.) receiver and TV by dish.
2.) Move VERY slow. I have been using a pair of 19 inch channel locks on the mount to turn it. That gives me full leverage and a quarter to half inch of turn at the handle is about the right amount of movement at the dish!
3.) Set up a plan and follow it. If your dish is pointed straight up and you haven't gotten the signal ... start coming down again. (Hey in Hawaii, you might have to be almost straight up!)
4.) Be sure you have a level and the documents, unless you want to spend way too much time on set up.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:

All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
- Independent of record too! Bonus.
MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
I'm out of ideas.

Cons

Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
- Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
Going to start resting players?
- The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
- Resting players could make games dumb.
- Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

It would be different if it was a game that you could play 2 or games each week, but when you only play 1 game a week, the larger playoff is Not a good thing ...

The season has how many games now, is it 14 ... then you want to play another 5 (with more to come) against Top 12 (eventually 24 teams) ... remember, the 5 games in the playoffs will be the hardest games all year and back to back.

For example, IF Ohio State should win it all this year ... they play 5 teams in the Top 25, plus they would play 5 more to win it all, depending on how the ranking shake out and if Bye weeks are given.

Thats 10 Ranked teams ... in one year ...
I don't see that happening very often ...
Edit, Bama plays 4, Georgia plays 3, But Ole Miss plays 5 (didn't expect to see that)

That said, I don't see the Buckeyes winning it all this year.

Seeing theres very little activity in the MLB threads, it wouldn't matter if I posted that the Astros didn't make the Playoffs ...

Theres more NFL info in the Pub section than in the Sports/NFL thread.

A 12 team playoff net should catch any undefeated team. The 12 team playoff also exposed that rankings suck. I mean, we kind of knew already that the rankings weren't particularly reproducible, but we now have the empirical evidence that the rankings suck because judging who is the best among a mickey mouse scheduled football season isn't a rational endeavor. So the 12 team playoff ensures most teams that should make it, do, including the mid-major undefeated team. 8 teams should be able to work as well, but puts greater risk at OSU and Alabama missing the playoff... can't have that.

Which is the run up to my main problem with the 24 team set up is that it is designed to keep the OSU's and Alabama's from missing the playoff. The cartels are ensuring widespread participation for their own cartels to increase the monetary reward to themselves. It is fixing the system while not fixing the outcomes, merely making the regular season game outcomes virtually irrelevant. Sure, a bye for winning the conference would be nice, but we've already seen that byes aren't that influential.

That is college football in a nutshell. Again, college football isn't about competition, it is about revenue. The entire setup is about making money, from regular season squash games against local jobbers like the WWF days to tax exempt bowl games.

And to add to the first world woes, the college football cartels have made being a College Football fan even more expensive... so they can get paid more.

Hughesnet cancelling email addresses

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

I had the same thing happen with my first ISP....never again did I use an ISPs email...got a Yahoo and Gmail.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

They finally announced ClipperVision, it will be on DIRECTV, but they didn't provide a channel number yet.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

For the naysayers who did not think this service would make it, just added another 4.9M subscribers and that was after the removal of 1.2M Russia subscribers.

This is even better, Paramount+ revenue grew 120% and Subscription revenue grew 74% year-over-year ( 2nd quarter 2021/ 2nd quarter 2022) to $830M, principally reflecting paid subscriber growth on Paramount+.

Now compare that to Peacock with only 13 million paid, 13 million free.

Just noticed, CBS shows on Paramount+ are now same day premieres vs next day, which is how they used to be.

Also in 4K/HDR/DV.

I wonder how providers feel about this, they pay an expensive per sub fee for CBS, who is giving another positive reason to drop Paid Live TV and subscribe to P+.

So, this means that those of us with Commercial Free subs, won't be Commercial Free, unless we wait till after the show is over ?
Which would make same day, not that big of a deal.

Paramount+ has always had the CBS shows on the CBS local channel and yes with commercials. What they are doing now is releasing the OnDemand versions of the show which I believe they don't release until after the shows air on the west coast. And they will be commercial free if you subscribe to the ad free version of Paramount+.

Watching it on the CBS local on Paramount+ is the exact same as watching it on your CBS local on your current cable/satellite/mvpd/vMVPD service. The OnDemand versions of it can be released on the same day that it airs but usually it is after the show airs on the west coast so if you have a show at 7:00 pm in your time zone and it airs 3 hours later on the west coast at 10:00 pm your time then they could release it at 11:00 pm your time if it was a one hour show. I really have not checked to see what time I can see the ad free OnDemand shows on Paramount+. I know today that last nights FBI and CIA show did not pop into the Up Next row on my Apple TV until this afternoon. I guess it may have been in Paramount+ since last night but I never checked it.

Watching it on the CBS local on Paramount+ is the exact same as watching it on your CBS local on your current cable/satellite/mvpd/vMVPD service. The OnDemand versions of it can be released on the same day that it airs but usually it is after the show airs on the west coast so if you have a show at 7:00 pm in your time zone and it airs 3 hours later on the west coast at 10:00 pm your time then they could release it at 11:00 pm your time if it was a one hour show. I really have not checked to see what time I can see the ad free OnDemand shows on Paramount+. I know today that last nights FBI and CIA show did not pop into the Up Next row on my Apple TV until this afternoon. I guess it may have been in Paramount+ since last night but I never checked it.

I think I read 3am est the next day, somewhere.

Directv curated multi view now live

The new curated multiview is now live.
While on many of the sports channels and non sports channels there is a multi view option button. It will pull up a side bar with many different multi view options.

It's now expanded to a Build Your Own Multiview, currently available to streaming customers with Geminis and Roku, and coming soon to Android TV, Fire TV, Vizio, LG, Apple TV and Tizen.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Meh. The 4Ks I have will do everything that these do that I need them to do.

Which that's most tech these days for anything released the last four to five years.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

Not a bit. IMO, Apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only reason I stuck, is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is a deal breaker. Later, Apple!

No. Makes me wonder if that is Apple or the carrier. I am on pre-paid, so I never get "an upgrade." I still have my old iPhone 11 Pro as a second line, and it runs iOS 27 just fine. My iPhone Air, which is still a current model, doesn't really seem that much faster in regular use. It is better in other ways, and worse in some ways than the 11 Pro (size), but performance really isn't a big differentiator, especially since I replaced the battery in the 11 Pro. If I had gotten enough storage when I originally bought the 11 Pro, it could still be my primary device with no issues.

Yeah, they boot up a bit slower than Roku, but the OS does a lot more, so it makes sense. How often are you booting them up that is a differentiator? Aside from OS updates, mine are on all the time. I will say the ATV4K is generally quicker than the Roku Ultras I have, when it comes to launching apps and responsiveness, not that the Roku is sluggish.
