Problems with HD from ViP211k

I had a VIP211 reciever box and the picture was not in true HD until Dish Network decided to upgrade the software on Aug. 1st and they call it Turbo HD. Right about then I was about to terminate service with them because of them not getting my local channels in HD but they offered to install a 2nd dish pointed at the 61.5 satellite and that would bring in my local channels in HD so I did that. Then had trouble over that acting up so in order for that to work better they gave me the new ViP211k reciever and it does not have the Turbo HD software upgrade like the other box and it's not even true HD. Does anyone know when Dish Network plans on updating the 211k reciever to be a true HD reciever and not just a widescreen output reciever. The picture on my TV is blurry just like it was before they came out with their so called Turbo HD which is real HDTV not just a gimmicky widescreen output. Any help would be appreciated before I tell them I'm through with them for good.

It's on 1080i and I'm using a JVC 26" LCD TV. When I 1st got the TV in 2005 I had Time Warner Cable who I hate by the way but I had their DVR box with an HDMI output on it and the HD picture was very sharp then I moved and wanted a satellite and Dish Network always gives the best deal I think so I went with them. I put up with it not being that good of a picture because I liked the Voom HD chanels because of the good movies they showed. Then I know they fixed the crappy quality HD problem but not for this new reciever. Maybe they can just give me a VIP211 reciever again or maybe they will update the software on the VIP211k soon. I hope but I really am tired of it.

well it's a piece of junk then and you must either have the older model or upgrade to a DVR box which is lame. it's enough to make someone not want dish network. but since i hate time warner cable and don't think diectv has a better quality set top box i may have to upgrade to the vip612 but i will say this a lot of you on here don't know much about the satellite boxes. i'm sure there will be a software update for the vip211k someday but am i willing to wait for it? i don't want to after going 2 years with a lousy so called HD picture with my 211 how long will it take for this one to finally get upgraded?

Are you ever going to listen? A software update will do NOTHING. You've got something wrong, either connection wise or in your head. A software update or a new receiver won't help. The ViP 211k DOES output HD.

Yeah I think we established there is a clearly a head connection problem but in terms of the receiver there is another problem going on.

Im pretty sure my 622 and 722 both output HD the last 2 years I've had them, along with everyone else on the site with a Vip receiver. I didnt noticed any difference with the TurboHD software along with 90% of everyone else here.

If your not getting HD then something is wrong and its not software. It has to be

1. Incorrect receiver display settings
2. Bad receiver
3. Bad HD connection
3. Incorrect HDTV settings
4. Bad HDTV - If you even have a HD set which im starting to question..

Since you wont check your settings and continue to babble on about the software there is no reason to think you may pull your head out and listen. Either go check whats going with your display settings or call up and cancel service. If you dont want to fix the problem and refuse all help then quit posting and do us all a favor.

I have a Sony HDTV on the way maybe it will look a lot better with that and I think I'm just going to stay with what I have because Dish Network is the best. Thanks for everyones help I appreciate it. Maybe I'll work on getting a VIP612 if I can get a decent deal on it.

On a 26" TV it is going to be very hard to tell the difference between 480I, 720P, and 1080I, but you should be able to tell the difference when you switch back and forth between the SD version of a channel and the HD version of that same channel, If you can't, then you are not watching the correct inputs.

USA Healthcare Costs are Ridiculous

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

I didn't start it as a political statement and have no interest in the political BS of this country. Everyone wants to make everything political nowadays. This was just my rant over the outrageous increase in my premiums and how unaffordable healthcare is becoming to the average person here.

admin can close or delete it if they don't want here.

There are no dues to be paid to be in the Pit. You just have to use the password which is clearly shown when you try to log in to it.

Dish Hopper and Dish Hopper Plus No Alexa in settings

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

I stand up from my chair with my glass in one hand and my plate in the other, when a story I really want to hear comes on the TV. So I say, "Alexa, pause DISH", and it waits for me to return from the kitchen, at which time I say, "Alexa, resume DISH".

Or maybe, when I return with a full glass in one hand and a new plate in the other, I realize I forgot to pause to hear this good story from its start. So I say, "Alexa, skip DISH backwards 3 minutes", and I still get to catch the whole story.

I use this every day. Or until I acquire a third hand.
