Dang it, Ice! Ya threw out the baby with the bathwater! -
We had this great off-topic discussion started in the middle of what turned out to be a hacker thread!
Darned good thing I kept a copy, huh? :D

Using a Dish Network DP-34 Switch for FTA

First, the switch is a big heavy monster, with tons of F connectors.
Built like a brick ... out house.
Could probably drive over it with your car and not hurt it!

Has three inputs, four outputs, and can be cascaded with a 2nd unit for 8 outputs.
Possibly to as many as 12 outputs, total.
Dish folks throw them away ! -

Cadsulfide documented how he was using it in an unusual way, and I wanted to preserve that idea.
I think he used it as a heavy-duty 3-in, 1-out diseqc.
Here's how the discussion went:

Try a DP34, bulletproof 3 lnb in 4 recievers out. Only need to use one lnb.
but that only works with stacked LNB's
But the DP34's work with the QPH031 right?
nope..the QPH is not stacked...very few KU LNB"s are stacked

I guess the big question is do you know what youi want to do in your head?
Then we might be able to give better answers
Ice,

I have a BSC421 C Band on Port 1, a DN FSS linear on port 2 (123), and a red 0.2 db linear on port 3 (125) of one of my DP34's and two generic linear lnbs and a Norsat lnb on the other. I get all the transponders and both polarities on both DP34's with no problems.
Do you have more than one receiver connected to any of your DP34's?

The DP-34 is just a big diseqc switch (with amps, and more)...
But in its normal configuration, all the receivers supply around 19 or 20 volts to the switch.
I was under the impression it was intended to operate only at the higher voltage.
But it's not like anyone publishes a spec sheet on it.!

If any of the connected receivers supply 18 volts for Horizontal polarity, that might propagate to all inputs.
It certainly should.
Likewise, I believe all LNBs are powered 100% of the time.
That's a big load on most DVB receivers.

I haven't taken a DP34 apart nor tested it outside its normal operating parameters.
You apparently have.
I wonder what loophole you have found . . .

(6 in, 3 out (all bandstacked)
Parts list: 2x DP-34's, 6x bandstacked LNBs, 3x FTA receivers, 3x 22khz eCoda switches)

Now you have my juices going, I have each of my recievers modulated to a different TV channel, with a 6 in 1 out configuration I could eliminate a reciever.......Thanks!

Does anyone know if the DP34 provides any additional gain to the IF signal?
Cadsulfide
The pass through ports are great when you forget what dish goes where, the pass your hand over the lnb trick while the meter is on tone quickly reminds me of where I put it. To expand on your idea it could be used to select which birds the kids get.

Off Topic of DP-34's

This post has to do with situations where one output of the switch is acceptable.
The strength of the DP-34 switch is that it can feed three or four receivers.
Use the right tool for the job.
Or, if you're like me and don't know what the final job will turn into, then plan ahead.

If you are really just going to move from two receivers to one receiver...
If you are going to operate the DP34 outside its intended parameters...
You might be better off with either of the following two solutions:

1. there are uncommitted diseqc switches with 8 inputs and 1 output
Downside? Only a few to choose from (maybe just one). Your receiver may or may not support it.
Upside? Not too expensive. Expandable with regular 4x1 diseqc switches!
See our review section for more info on 'em.
There are two: EMP Centauri 8 x 1, and Digiwave 8x1 uncommitted.
I believe you want the Digiwave.

2. In the Switches FAQ, there's a simple design with two 4x1 diseqc switches and a 2x1 eCoda 22khz switch.
It will let you choose from 8 inputs and drive 1 output.
Downside? Some modest limitations if you have any Universal LNBs.
Upside? Should work with any receiver. Standard, inexpensive, easy to get parts.

Did a Gain test this weekend, Montana PBS 0.2db red std linear lnb .

Straight to reciever, no switch Q=56-60
Through DP34 with 3 powered lnb's Q=55-59

Should have tried it with only the red lnb too.

Must be a unity gain buffer in the switch, I have noticed a drop in signal with white label switches, but did'nt write it down.

Just want to add that JVI made a compatible switch to the DP-34 and they call it the DN34 switch. The DN34 works exactly like the DP34, but it has a 4th input for off-air or CATV signal. You will still need to use a Diplexer on the output ports to separate the CATV from SAT signal.

We still have a few of the DN34 switches if anyone is interested. [Click HERE]

If you purchase a 44 switch on ebay make sure you get the power inserter with it. There are a lot of 44's for sale without and they are useless without it. A Dish net reciever is not a substitute for the power inserter. The good news is that you can route a reciever through the power inserter. 34's and 44's run hot, the cooler that you can keep them the longer they last. The last port on the 34 and the 44 are reserved for linear bandstacked lnbfs but my experience is that it really doesnt matter where you put them. You can mix circular and linear where ever you want them. You can run six lnbf through two 34 switches and then from there into another 34 or a 21 switch if you want. As a rule of thumb plug one dishnet reciever into each 34 switch for power. They are power hungery. I cut my teeth on them with the 105 super dish 4 years ago installing dishnetwork. I probably installed a thousand of them. Jason

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

I have gotten back into watching SG-1 and I have recorded most of the episodes to binge watch. What episodes are about the Antarctic or was this a movie? Also where could I watch the SG-1 movies?

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Which one has O'Neil being Ancients? I am at the end of Season 8 now.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.
