Need help! I have been gone around in circles with Dish Network. I have a VIP 722 using hdmi to Samsung dlp for video and optical from 722 to a 7 year old Denon amp. I get 1 second burst of audio about every 4 seconds on NTGEO HD, and a few other HD channels. All other HD channels produce dolby or PM audio fine! My AMP indicates NTGEO HD is dolby digital. If I reroute the audio to the Samsung DLP via HDMI and use the optical output of the Samsung and connect to Denon AMP the audio comes through on NTGEO and the few other channels. If I flip my AMP to "virtual" the audio comes thru fine but is just stereo. After receiving a new 722 and getting 500 different answers I am somewhat convinced my AMP cannot handle the dolby format from NTGEO but DIsh Network cannot verify if this is the issue. I also know that vip 722 does not put out dolby using hdmi. Can anyone please help with this? I don't want to buy a new AMP unless I really need to. Is anyone having the same problem or can someone tell me what the issue is with the Audio coding on NTGEO HD?

Well, I'm 100% confident you'll be moving. Check out AVS forums and highdefforum. Lots of threads confirming the manual. It is an industry standard spurred on by DRM.

I called Panasonic and spoke to a different tech today. He said as far as he knows their TV's Digital Audio Out will only pass 2 channel audio. However, he said that they have only tested it with HDMI 1.2 cable. He doesn't know what would happen if they tried a 1.3 cable and he'll suggest they run such a test.

I'll check AVS forums.

Thanks for the info.

It is NOT a technical capability issue. It is a design issue. It is INTENDED. Since when did you start believing phone techs?;)

From what I've learned you are absolutely correct. Sucks for me. I really don't want to leave Dish but they give me no choice if they can't fix their 722 receiver soon. Time Warner cable (yuck!) has a fix for the compatibility issue I'm having, why can't Dish?

I know.....never believe a phone tech. I often know more than they do.
K
I checked with Samsung regarding there HL61A750 DLP and I quote:
When the receiver (home theater) is set to On, you can hear sound output from
the TV's Optical jack. When the TV is displaying a DTV(air) signal, the TV will send
out 5.1 channel sound to the Home theater receiver. When the source is a digital
component such as a DVD and is connected to the TV via HDMI, only 2 channel
sound will be heard from the Home Theater receiver.
If you want to hear 5.1 channel audio, connect the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT
(OPTICAL) jack on the DVD player or Cable/Satellite Box directly to an Amplifier or
Home Theater, not the TV.
This is out of their Users Manual. It is irregardless of using 1.3 HDMI cable so it appears a playstation, xbox, dish network receiver or whatever would not put out dolby digital hooked up to most HDTV's HDMI and then via toslink to receiver.
I still have to deal with the problem of certain HD channels not being decoded correctly by my Denon Amp when hooked up via toslink. and can wait to see if they correct it.
I am more upset that I have probably close to a grand tied up in dish equipment and they pulled ABC (Fisher Broadcasting) off the air and can't seem to come to terms. If I switch from Dish it will be costly - if I stay with Dish it will be costly buying a new Amp. I guess I am stuck with Dish, although I have to say their picture is way better than cable provides!

I know you would like your sound source to switch with the video but my Samsung LED-DLP (I have an HL-T5687) will output better than 2.0 stereo only for received TV signals. It was discussed/cussed on the AVS boards for my model.

I ended up with a 4-input manual RS passive switch for the Toslink. With 2 722s, DVD+R, and at one time another receiver it is a pain to walk 10 feet and change the input but I didn't buy one with a remote--much more cost. BTW the DVD+R has not seen much action since I started EHD recordings--6 disks.

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Hate to say this no one is ordering Satellite TV. Both DISH and Direct no new customers.
After 25 years with centurylink DSL 80 speed i changed to Xfinity 300 speed for $50 wow lightning fast for streaming. Still have DISH 27 years with them. Americas 250 package for $103. What you think of superbox or vseebox for streaming is it legal?
Still dish is easy to operate and change channels. What will Charlie Ergen do with new super satellites with loosing customers with satellites and boost?

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

Comcast called fiber pricing "irrational" because the ROI is over three years. What is irrational to me is Comcast internet is based on lines they put in the ground decades ago at this point, for the most part. Is copper that much more expensive to maintain?

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

The fiber coming in to the house looks like 300 ohm old TV wire I think that is the weak point.

The weak point would be the connection between the outdoor feed and the indoor feed.

Copper lines are fine ... until it hits the AIR.

Charter lost 77,000 TV subscribers, the bigger news, it lost 233,000 broadband subscribers.

You would believe both companies would of learned from what happened with their TV services, which was ignore that cord cutting was a thing, allowed competition ( streaming) to get a foothold in the industry.

Now, in today's world, there are more households in the United States without a paid live TV than those with.

Both companies charge too much, delayed upgrades, all because they believed no one would leave them, only game in town, competition started with the 5G services, than Fiber, enough said, Cord Cutting 2.0 is here.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Rodney Dangerfield is great. One of his best one liners - "My wife likes to talk to me during sex, last night she called me from Florida!"

Jackie Gleason is another one of the greats.
