Want some opinions before I decide if I can do the easy route or the hard route for the next project

Since G18 is pretty much kaput programing wise, I decided to move the dish there. Its motorized ;) so it makes it easy. I was trying to figure out where to put it for the time being. Already have fixed dish at 105. So was working with it making sure signals look good and they look good

Then I had an idea :eureka:
Motorize the receiver in computer room. Right now its fixed with G16, 105W and a feed from the "main" motorized.

But now I have a dilemma. I have two options with this
1. run a brand new cable from the computer room to the motor
2. use a barrel connector and combine the cable that comes into the house from the motorized to the cable that goes to the comp room. Right now its hooked to a diseqc switch in the basement.

Normally I would just run a new cable but the way my house is up it would be something like this
from the roof run down side of house into hole where cables are (drop ceiling in basement), run it through ceiling into laundry room out the hole there into the garage. Run along ceiling in garage into hole in top of garage into computer room (bedrooms sit on top of garage) at the opposite end of house......total length 110-115 feet

or just use the barrel connector and take my chances with a loss of signal? Right now the cables are about 30 feet (from roof to basement) and 75 feet (from basement to computer room).

How much loss is there with a barrel connector?

I have some of the blue barrel connectors. I guess what I can try is a 20 foot run from the motor and take some results then hook up the setup and see how bad it goes down

I wont have all the sats logged in this setup. Just the "main" ones :)

I do swear by that silicone in the connections though. All I can tell you is that it works great at the beach in a salty air environment (pretty harsh) and I get great pass-through the connectors.

the only salt we have in the air here in MN is if I throw some salt in the air :D

We deal with something here you dont....cold and snow ;)

Thanks for the link. Gave some good info on the loss :)

Had to rerun a new cable for the other port on the dual. The cable went to the motor but only had about 2" of extra slack. When I switched the cables around the cable that goes into the basement was the "slave" side. So after swapping the cables there on the motor, had to run a new cable down to the wallplate in the living room. No worries and even replaced the barrel connectors on that wallplatee. They were some crappy ones that had been there for a couple years. Put some new shiny 3Ghz ones there :)

Well, if they salt the roads up there like they do down here when they ice (which is about once a decade), and there is a winter storm blowing the road mist around, then you'll have salt air ;)

Unfortunately, the tropical environmental conditions here in the Gulf South take a serious toll on anything installed outdoors. I've found some solutions that seem to be working, such as painting any exposed hardware (bolts, DiSEqC switches, etc.) with clear enamel. Since I've done that, the corrosion problems that had been plaguing my satellite farm have disappeared.
M
oh yes they do salt up the roads, but its usually mixed with a chemical to melt the snow faster

...

Not sure how this relates to the discussion, but this salt in the air thing is really true up here in Maine, however it only lasts for a month or so. They put an incredible amount of salt on the roads here. In MY small town of just a couple hundred people, it's put down as a mixture of salt and sand, and we put down TONS of salt every winter. Some places, like Ice said, it can be a liquified version, but that doesn't matter, because it eventually dries up, and gets up in the air.
In the late spring/early summer, all this salt on the road dries up, and when the cars drive over it, it's up in the air as a very fine particulate, and you can taste it, and feel it on your skin and in your eyes. My wife has a sensitivity to the salt, and one year, after a week with several highway trips, ended up with severe swelling of her face.
Usually, after a few good rain storms, the salt gets washed away, but it takes more than one storm to get rid of it. I'm part of the local town gov here, and have been trying to get them to cut back on the amount of salt put down, but I've been outvoted.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

I have gotten back into watching SG-1 and I have recorded most of the episodes to binge watch. What episodes are about the Antarctic or was this a movie? Also where could I watch the SG-1 movies?

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Which one has O'Neil being Ancients? I am at the end of Season 8 now.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.

Has anyone noticed an FF stutter with 713? I used to be able to hit FF a few times and skip smoothly. After 713 (maybe 712), when I skip forward, there is a definite stutter for as many times as I have pressed FF.

Can anyone check on this and report back? Recorded programs and then press skip forward a few times to see if it's smooth? Normally, it just jumps to the right place after the skips.

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

My wife mentioned that her remote is acting strange this morning. She hit FF and it went to 15x FF.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.
navychop
it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner
