Since the new HD channels were announced I have been trying to decide what is the best option for "upgrading" so we can receive them. After much reading here and talking with my local retailer I have come up with the following:

1. Go EA and get rid of the 110/119/61.5 set up. This has a couple of negatives, first I have always had loss of signal on the 61.5 bird during storms. Only during the heaviest rain or snow do we also loose the 110/119. I would imagine that the signal strength on the 1000.4 would be lower than the dish 500 pointed at 61.5 I have now so LOS would be even more pronounced. I would also have to upgrade receiver 2 to a 222K as the 322 won't work with the MPEG4. The positive is just one dish on the roof.

2. Add a dish for 129 along with a sw44 to receive the new programming. 129 is too low on the horizon for my location so this is out. besides I don't really want a third dish on the roof, and not so sure my wife would like it either.

3. Instead of a 1000.4 add a third dish for 72.7 and a SW44 to connect everything up (I don't think there is anything currently on 77 that isn't already on 110/119). This would eliminate the need to upgrade receiver 2 and presumably have stronger signals on the individual 61.5 and 72.7 dish's than with a 1000.4, However we still have the three dish issue.

4. Then I thought of this as a possibility: Put up a 1000.4 but only connect the 61.5 and 72.7 sats creating a 110/119/61.5/72.7 using a sw44. I beleive there is nothing on 77 that isn't on 110/119 so I don't loose any programing. I don't have three dish's and I don't need to upgrade receiver 2. I am also set to go EA in the future if I choose to upgrade receiver 2. This may be way off but if I was tweaking the 1000.4 for 2 sats instead of three would i not have better signal strength for the 61.5 and 72.7 than with all three or since the 61.5 and 72.7 are so close it doesn't mater? I don't even know if this will work, although with my limited knowledge I don't see why not.

Before I go on, I want to say I'm not trying to have my cake and eat it too. At least I don't think so. I don't want a dish farm on my roof, I want to receive the programing I am paying for, and if I was to upgrade receiver 2 we would need to run more RG6 as the original set up for receiver 2 was TV 1 downstairs and TV 2 in my sons room upstairs. He now has an HD TV in his room so if we upgraded the receiver tv 1 would need to be in his room and we would need to run cable back down stairs for TV 2. Doable but a pain. I realize that if I am to receive the programing I am paying for I may have to settle for things I don't want.

Again I am just trying to find the best way for ME to receive the programming I'm paying for, I may have to settle for three dish's so we have the strongest possible signals from 61.5 and 72.7 or we may have to ugrade the 322 and go EA, I just want to be sure that we have touched on all the options and make the best choice!

So the $64k question is, will option 4 work? If so what are the negatives and if not why not ( just for my education).

Thanks

Ross

How about keep your old D500 for your SD receivers and a D1000.4 for your HD receivers.

Two dishes but a split system, one for SD one for HD.

I too have a 2 dish setup. Originally i had a dish 1000+ to pick up 110,119,118{129 too low in sky and causes los problems and can't get a signal) and i had 61.5 dish for hd. they are taking pittsburgh hd locals off of 118 and have them on 129 which i cant get so i moved to buffalo for hd locals which are on 61.5 spot beam (also got cw in hd as a bonus) i changed out the dish 500 that was pointing at 61.5 and now have eastern arc dish 1000.4 getting 61 and 72. also getting signal for 77 but i dont have it hooked up,i disconnected the 118 from the dish 1000+ and now have 110,119,61,and 72 going into dpp44 and have no problems. Now last week the Pittsburgh hd locals were uplinked to 77 but are not yet available, once they are live i could hook up the 77 and "move" back to pittsburgh. But the wifey watches alot of cw so may stay with buffalo. MORAL OF THIS STORY IS two ishes are better then one as you never know when DISH is going to move programming around so this gives you much more options

No Siginal From 72.7 and 77??

I am trying to also get all the new HD channels that we are currently paying for. Current set up has 110,118.5, 119 and 61.5. I purchased the EA on my own and can only get 61.5 sat on it. Have checked dispointer and should I not be able to pick up two new satelites since 61.5 comes in okay? My understanding is 61.5 is lower in sky than 72.7 and 77. Is this correct? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also what are dish set numbers (elevation, azimuth skew) for just 72.7 west? I have looked and looked and cannot find information any where.

Try the dishpointer.com link shown above.

also, you have to remove the cable from the VIP receiver... then do a check switch with nothing connected, cover the other LNB's with Foil (other than the 72.7), connect the 1000 .4and check transponders 19 and 21. Once you peak 72.7 uncover the other LNB's and it should be good to go when you do another check switch with it all connected.

That is also an option, of course since it is a non standard solution I wonder if dish will install that way or will I have to do it myself?

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I'm not a big fan of the new layout, especially on my Apple TV. It used to look like the old Guide layout on the Hopper 3, but they changed parts of that, too.

I like the new look, it's a lot cleaner. I'm using it on one of those Onn streaming devices when I travel.

Yes a lot cleaner, glossier, and less functional. Someone trying to justify why they are making a big salary. "See look shiny"

Several Dish offers showed up today in my account. Once you choose one the rest are removed. Offers were Showtime, Starz, AMC and others.

Just checked my account and it shows mgm+ at 8.00 per month, but that has red line drawn thru it and shows 0.00 per month. But it doesn't say how long this lasts,...... 1 month, 3 months, forever. I called customer service to get an answer, and they said nothing like that exists. Should I add the offer or not? Already paying them too much, but want to take advantage of something free.

Not for me, mines has no mention of how long aka the offer period and the Terms and conditions the $0.00 is good for. All I see is one can lose $5.00 if you decide to remove it before day 31 after you add it to the account.

You have a different offer that is free for a shorter timeframe which is different than the one that I and bnewt saw without defining the promotion period as I sent the question to DISH Care via Facebook Messenger and this is the response I got back 20 minutes ago.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Meh. The 4Ks I have will do everything that these do that I need them to do.

Which that's most tech these days for anything released the last four to five years.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

Don't tell them that. They'll adopt planned obsolescence.

Not a bit. IMO, Apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only reason I stuck, is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is a deal breaker. Later, Apple!

they all do that anyways.. ever notice your cell phone slows down when you come up for an upgrade.. :what. apple's been making money off of software and not hardware for a while

No. Makes me wonder if that is Apple or the carrier. I am on pre-paid, so I never get "an upgrade." I still have my old iPhone 11 Pro as a second line, and it runs iOS 27 just fine. My iPhone Air, which is still a current model, doesn't really seem that much faster in regular use. It is better in other ways, and worse in some ways than the 11 Pro (size), but performance really isn't a big differentiator, especially since I replaced the battery in the 11 Pro. If I had gotten enough storage when I originally bought the 11 Pro, it could still be my primary device with no issues.

Yeah, they boot up a bit slower than Roku, but the OS does a lot more, so it makes sense. How often are you booting them up that is a differentiator? Aside from OS updates, mine are on all the time. I will say the ATV4K is generally quicker than the Roku Ultras I have, when it comes to launching apps and responsiveness, not that the Roku is sluggish.

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

Might be worth a watch when it comes out. Looks like typical big corp against the little guy movie BUT....there is a reason this plot type is so oft repeated, it draws audiences.
