Hello. I am just a consumer and I found you all by websearching. Can you help me with some info and direction?

I own a home in the Puerto Vallarta area of Mexico. With really bad timing, I have just had DISH installed. I mean within the last 2 weeks - with all the satellite moves going on. Because of the problems and some of what I have read in these forums, I have some questions. I would appreciate all the insite you can give me.

My Dish is receiving sometimes and not receiving at others. I have a 1.8 m. I have subscribed to locals through All America Direct but they are not coming in at all. I have no ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, etc.

So, is this going to get sorted out, so that we can receive stations? Or should I cut my losses now and find another outlet for TV? If so, who is best received?

Is there a list of what stations are reasonable to expect to receive? I dont want to pay to get only shopping channels!

What is the deal about DISH not being legal in Mexico? As long as I am paying for it and not stacking, what is the problem? Are any non-Mexico sattelites legal?

Thanks!

Sky Mex best option

Sky Mex is your best paying option. They are cheap compared to DN and others.
I travel alot many people use Sky where you are, and we have full service here in Honduras as well where I live.
There are a zillion options. You can point that 1.8 with a universal lNB at the 58W which is the main sat for MEX and Central America and receive many of the sky feeds right now. Movies and networks have been open for several weeks. You may be too far north on that but we receive many feeds open here on DSB 2.
You should consider your FTA options if you have the time and energy.
A sub to SKY is a great way to go if you are only using your vacation home from time to time.. HB

It's too bad that Dish and Direct can't work their spot beams so that they only reach to the edge of the US boarders both north and south and not any further. Now that would be a bit of boarder patrol that I could get behind! :up

boarder patrol? lol. Ahoy matey's, watch out for those boarders!!!:)

Seriously though, I know of a few U.S. Citizens who take their sat systems to Mexico, It's not just the locals who are watching U.S. Satellites.

Mexican satellite services also cable are so 3rd world as the country is, i don't know why you talking about doing something illegal offsher the US, if you're a subscriber and you can afford a large dish to get your tv with you is not an illegal issue since you're not mexican, and if you were mexican there's no law here that restricts you to get foreing signals as soon as you don't make your onw cable company buy 500 receivers and retransmit that signal to make businnes with.

Cheers

The best option for tv in Mexico City is 4DTV. Amazing that a dying technology in the US can bring high signal in Mexico City at many satellites.
M
It is a violation of US regulations for A US provider to sell signals to persons living in Mexico. But is it illegal to pick up signals from a foreign country when you live in Mexico? After all you are in Mexico and controlled by Mexican law. I don't think so. In Chapala-Ajijic just south of Guadalajara, maybe 5 to 10% of the population is from the cold north. And just driving down the road you can look up on the roofs and wall and tell whether that Ku band I pointing south you know toward 107.3, 110, 111.1 119, 129 degrees west or in a more easterly direction toward the Mexican satellites. And No ones satellite dish system is being confiscated etc.

There are ads in the papers selling US DISH systems all of the time in Guadalajara. Many Canadian snowbirds who go south to Mexico for the winter, often bring their StarChoice (Now Shaw Direct) systems with them. Guess what sized dish you need in much of Mexico for Star Choice? It's an elliptical 26.5 by 36.5 inch dish that brings in programming from two birds. Programming includes the US networks HBO etc. I know people who have real addresses in Canada phoning Star Choice up from as far away as Central America asking for dish pointing instructions. It was no problem because the clients were simply traveling.

I'm a snowbird up here freezing to death in Seattle and when I go south for the winter I understand that my one DISH receiver that I take with me will have a harder time picking up Echo* 14. The question is out whether I will need a 1.8 or 2.4 meter for 119 W and we wont know for sure until all of the fine tuning is done I understand on the 16th.

So here are your choices for Mexico. My example is for the greater Guadalajara, Chapala areas
1. C band (which I have) with a 4DTV with a 12 foot antenna (1 HDTV channel)
2. Star Choice (now Shaw Direct) with a 26.5 by 36.5 inch dish with (more than 65 HDTV channels to include US networks)
3. DISH with about a 2.4 meter for 119 and 129 W and perhaps a 1.2 or 1.8 meter for what's left on 110 W with a lot of HDTV on 129

It's getting harder and harder to continue to get DISH as the footprints better focus in on the US with less bleed-over into Mexico. As a result more and more of those who only speak English, are going to Star Choice. I enjoy the local cable company. It's not very reliable and only has 5 HDTV channels, half in English

Just my too bits worth.

I have the same issue, but I have not been down to Puerto Vallarta/Manzanillo area to check since the switch. Do you have any of the distant networks, channels 241-248 yet? . I am so sick of Dish Network and dealing with their technical issues and security switches. I wish I could just bypass the whole Dish thing and go internet. But I dont want to switch out all my SAT equipment and go with a new system yet, and I know it will be a matter of time before Apple TV will be enough. What are you doing about the new changes and has anything changed for the better since your last posting?

This should hit a lot of folks with a dose of reality. I can only imagine how much more common this will get as AI progresses.

I read several stories on this and most are clear as mud. They say a lot of the stolen bitcoin has been "locked out" and that everyone will be made financially whole. I guess time will tell if either of these statements are actually true.

The "Secure Asset Fund" had about $1 billion in reserves... in Bitcoin.

The fund started in 2018, so it may take a while to make investors whole, much less replenish the fund.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It states the average amount they are under water is OVER $7,000. :eek

Personally, I tend to be the type that drives a vehicle for a lot of years....do my own oil changes and other fluid changes. Just replaced the spark plugs and a couple coils. Youtube is great for things like this.

I'm pretty sure the most you can get is seven.

What America can't afford is the payments on $80,000+ pickups and SUVs and $40,000+ crossovers.

Finished season 3 last night. Still one of my favorite shows.

Anyone else wonder if there might be something else going on with Callum? Seems to me he has too much access to Russian intelligence.

Great ending, but it ran in circles most of the season.

Over the past few weeks, I have had problems connecting to streaming services (Netflix, HBO et al). When I go to the TV's native Channels, I have no problem. The Dish internet troubleshooter shows I have a good internet connection. I'm wondering whether it's an issue with my internet provider or a problem with the Dish software on the Hopper Plus. Anyone else seeing this?

I have a DISH Hopper 3 (Software H713) with Hopper Plus (Software P15403). I have not tried streaming services but I primarily watch TVB Jadeworld international package which is only available by streaming and when I have an issue, I usually have to go to a non-streaming satellite channel first before the streaming channels will work again. What software versions do you have and what is the error message if any are showing on your screen? or is that Dish downloading logo just stuck and never finishes?

I'm on H713 on the Hopper and P15403 on the Hopper Plus. It shows internet connection issues and doesn't finish loading the various services. I see the "loading circle going around. Sometimes I get a message saying that the service is having trouble loading my content and to check the internet connection.

Did it ever work correctly before? Hard to say what the problem is. Usually for streaming, it will show the Dish logo with lines sweeping down to show downloading, never seen the circle issue. Did you try a manual reboot, red button reset, power cord unplug/replug to see if it makes a difference.

Might be worth just to ditch the hopper plus. No issues here on h713

Buy a roku and dump the hopper plus you'll be better off. If you have a smart tv you don't need either one. No hopper plus here and no issues!!!
