My Xbox 360 is next to my receiver and was wondering if you could hook up the DECA to the xbox. I use wireless for the xbox but it has lag time every so often

It is highly recomended not to mix other devices into your DECA cloud. The DECA network is designed specifically for multiroom viewing. Add other stuff into that and you will lose performance. Also DECA clouds are much more limited than traditional networks, I think the max is 16 devices.

You would be better to run cat5 or get a xbox wifi adapter.

What kind of receiver is it? If it is an HR24 the only way it would work is to buy a DECA adapter and a SWim Splitter. If you connect an ethernet cable to the HR24 it disables the internal DECA module.

If it's anything other than the HR24, connect a switch to the output of the DECA adapter, and send one cable to the X-box and one to the HR receiver. As Jason said, this is not recommended because you are "clouding" the DECA cloud. It will slow performance of MRV. It will give you internet and network connectivity to your x-box if you have your router connected to the DECA network via another DECA adapter and power supply...

I figured if he was using the xbox, he wouldnt be watching mrv tv at the same time, but maybe he's got other people living in the house!

Not recommended and not support by dtv.

Deca acts more like a hub then a switch and I really dont have the strength today to explain why that is bad for non receiver devices.

One thing to throw out there, unless you're watching netflix or downloading content to the 360, if you're just using it for game connectivity to xbox live, the amount of data sent is negligible. Its more about response time/latency than traffic volume.

For my 360 I went wireless but to solve the problems with the expensive slow xbox wireless adapter, I picked up a super cheap 5GHz wireless N router that was compatible with dd-wrt, installed that and set it into 'client' mode, then plugged my 360, roku player, ps3 and some other stuff into the back of it. That gave me a 300Mb/s connection back to my main router and multiplexes all those devices through it. I only use one at a time, so I get full bandwidth and my throughput and latency/response time are great.

Definitely some heavy technical stuff to install and configure the new firmware, but if you're patient and follow the instructions for the dd-wrt install and the client mode configuration, it only takes an hour or so.

This is the router I used:
Newegg.com - Recertified: NETGEAR WNDR3300-100NAR IEEE 802.11a/b/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft 2.0 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router

Here are the dd-wrt installation instructions:
Netgear WNDR3300 - DD-WRT Wiki

This is a good detailed technical thread on installing dd-wrt and the technical issues that may arise:
DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - Peacock Thread-FAQ: EVERYTHING you NEED to know! Really!!

Here is the detail on configuring the 'client' mode. Once this is done, this router looks like a wireless N client adapter with a four port switch on it instead of a single connection:
Client Mode - DD-WRT Wiki

This particular router is excellent for the purpose. There are also many cheap 'refurbished' units available because netgear sent out a whole production run with bad power transformers, and because there was some confusion about how it worked when both the 5 and 2.4GHz radios are in use at the same time. You could only use wireless G on the 2.4 if you used N on the 5. That ticked off some people who thought they could run N on both radios concurrently and they returned it. You only need one of the two radios to use it as a wireless client, so thats irrelevant.

One note is that the default client mode setup puts everything hung off the client mode router on its own subnet, ie your main router will be 192.168.1.1 and the client mode router will be 192.168.2.1. MRV and Directv2pc will not work between units on two separate subnets, so this works great for game gear, roku boxes and pc's but not for networking remote directv stuff.

You CAN make it work as a single subnet by disabling dhcp on the client router and doing a bunch of fiddling with it. I made it work once but it took me hours of fiddling.

This is also not a bad little cheap router for primary router usage if you understand its limitations and it suits your needs.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

Losing 144,000 internet customers surprises me more.

Comcast called fiber pricing "irrational" because the ROI is over three years. What is irrational to me is Comcast internet is based on lines they put in the ground decades ago at this point, for the most part. Is copper that much more expensive to maintain?

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

The fiber coming in to the house looks like 300 ohm old TV wire I think that is the weak point.

They have been losing broadband subscribers for about 4 years now.

Charter lost 77,000 TV subscribers, the bigger news, it lost 233,000 broadband subscribers.

You would believe both companies would of learned from what happened with their TV services, which was ignore that cord cutting was a thing, allowed competition ( streaming) to get a foothold in the industry.

Now, in today's world, there are more households in the United States without a paid live TV than those with.

Both companies charge too much, delayed upgrades, all because they believed no one would leave them, only game in town, competition started with the 5G services, Fiber soon after, enough said, Cord Cutting 2.0 is here.

Got to admit I never thought I'd see the day that cable lost internet subs.

Got to admit I never thought I'd see the day that cable lost internet subs.
I think the cable companies didnt either, back when they had no real competition in their footprint.

But today, for many, maybe even most, cable isnt the only choice, or even the best.

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Hate to say this no one is ordering Satellite TV. Both DISH and Direct no new customers.
After 25 years with centurylink DSL 80 speed i changed to Xfinity 300 speed for $50 wow lightning fast for streaming. Still have DISH 27 years with them. Americas 250 package for $103. What you think of superbox or vseebox for streaming is it legal?
Still dish is easy to operate and change channels. What will Charlie Ergen do with new super satellites with loosing customers with satellites and boost?
