hi new to this forum just joined directv and i feel they are liars and bunch of thieves first i asked for whole home dvr service and hd so they send me a standard receiver and wrong programming. so i have to cancel then i have to redo everything including new install date cause they wanted to charge me 199 for hd receiver i asked for in the first place . so i decide to give it a second shot i ask if i can get hd for life they say yes if i sign up for auto pay , this is when i asked the rep if i could do that later i was told yes so i decide to wait , i go online see my first bill is 64.19 that is-insane for choice extra so i ask if i can get hd free by signing up for auto pay and im told its not part of my package , i explain to the rep what i was TOLD and she says there is not notes on that and she could do nothing, i regret leaving dish cause i paid less for more channels and i was never lied to im sorry for long post but i just feel that is to much money especially if that is with the 29 dollar discount.direct tv is full of liars telling customers anything just to sign them up.

I'm so confused now!

OKay, so I called DTV back today and talked with them about the wireless kit. They are sending out an installer Wednesday to install the kit at no charge for both the kit and install. I told the guy that he just saved me from canceling all together. Finally, something positive! I'm sure I will have more good stuff to say about it all once I get the kinks worked out and more familiar with all that it has to offer.

I must say that the picture quality on non HD tv's are much better than I got on my Charter cable.

Things left to get resolved when I find time to tinker around with it.

Some remote issues

Whole House DVR to work

Caller ID doesn't work even though turned on. Could be due to having Charter phone.

Proper picture settings on all tv's.

I guess part of the fun is all the fine tuning. Can't wait for the NFL season to start!!

Maybe this will give you an idea of what the installer s/b doing: http://www.satelliteguys.us/directv...internet-up-hr24-mrv-enabled.html#post2233489

The coax s/b dropped from splitter to near your wired network. I would suggest that you add a good ETHERNET switch in front of router. I say this because there are still complaints about not being able to view the updated UPL with some routers or ISP being at fault. The ETHERNET switch will help to keep UPL reliable, separate local traffic from Internet traffic and make your router more efficient for Internet traffic.

Thanks for the link armchair.

I have a device attached to my HD receiver that doesn't have a power cord hooked up to it. The lights on the device are not lit and probably a reason I can not view the dvr from this tv.

Here is a pcture of my device.

I think you should remove the DECA and ETHERNET cable and rerun satellite setup on that box. That should fix your MRV problem as long as the DVR hasn't had an ETHERNET cable attached. (If so, remove it or connect both the HD boxes to ETHERNET until the Internet Connection Kit is installed but remember to rerun sat setup after disconnecting ETHERNET cables).

I'm curious to know if there is a coax ran from splitter to somewhere near your router that is not connected or terminated. That would suggest the job was started but never completed properly.

I didn't mean to hijack the thread from the OP but everyone here has been a great help, thanks.

On a side note, my kids returned home yesterday and were excited that DTV had been installed while they were away during the weekend. My son was really excited to finally be getting the NFL ST and have the NBA channel. He watched and DVR'd some of the Lakers games from this last season. My daughter was happy that she has several different channels to watch/DVR Hannah Montana and her other shows.

They were a little bummed that they can not watch the DVR in their rooms but they seemed to have taken it better than I did when I found out they wouldn't be able to.

A few things to get used to are:

The only tv you can rewind and pause live tv on is the room that has the DVR. For some reason both the kids and I thought this was possible to do in all rooms. But after giving it a little thought, it makes since that you can't do it on tv's that don't have the DVR.

The screen format on non HD tv's

I need to mess around with the remotes to get them to work properly so they turn on/off the receiver and tv at the same time without having to switch the remote to tv. When these were first set up I'm sure the installer does what all installers do and just pick the tv brand and unknown model number. I tried to reprogram using the tv model number but that didn't seem to help. Actually on one of the tv's I chose the right tv model and it actually functioned worse.

Watching the NFL channel the screen froze about 8 times for a few seconds. First time I experienced that and hopefully it won't be a common thing. That's the only time and channel that this has happened.

Overall I'm enjoying DTV so far, especially since you helped with getting the other HD receiver to recognize the DVR and now that I have calmed down about the non HD receivers.

If you upgraded the receivers in bedrooms to HD, you'd be able to do that. But like I suggested before, you may need to add at least one more HD-DVR. Maybe one DVR could be used for sports and the other for family programming to help avoid issues where two HD receivers are trying to view the same DVR at the same time (which is not possible).

The implication in your first sentence is that if the bedroom receivers were upgraded to HD then you could pause/rewind live TV on the remote DVR. This is not true. It can do it for recorded shows. Now if you meant the upgrade was to an HD DVR receiver, then this is also not true for the remote DVR. Of course, the local DVR can perform those functions.

Well, you COULD start a recording on the live show you were watching from the remote dvr with an HD receiver, then pause/play that. Not quite as convenient, but only a few buttons of inconvenience.

Brilliant! Thanks for the idea!

Note that I think this only works if the remote receiver is an *HD* receiver. The H21/h22/h23/h24 all allow you to schedule a recording from the receiver to happen on the DVR. The SD receivers dont have this ability. At least I dont think that they do.

UPDATE

So a DTV installer came out today and used this DECA device that I took off the HD receiver to hook up to my router and got the internet working. Seems like things are hooked up good. He was pretty surprised that the first installer hooked this up to the HD receiver. Also this guy changed a couple of hookups from the satellite that he didn't like how it was originally installed. He was also surprised that I knew to take the DECA device off the HD receiver abd got the multi room viewing to work, thanks to you guys!!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

That said, since '08 I have had Sat radio available to me ... I think I have turned on AM 3 or 4 times, just to see if its still there.

Fwiw, if theres a Major disaster or bad weather or whatever, the chances of me finding out about it by going to the AM side of the radio is SLIM and None.
Even FM, I haven't really had on since '13ish, I may turn it on from time to time, just to see if its still there.

Automation has seen to that. You can't get evening drive traffic reports where I live, much less disaster reports.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

Do you do any Ad's on Satellite ?

If Not, why not, because it's not Local ?

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

most carriers do. that's why they send updates that slow phones down!! i buy unlocked phones no effect to me

Gone are the days when Apple "perfects" what debuted years earlier on an Android phone.

Hello folks, well my luck ran out last week with a nasty thunderstorm and after 39 years here, finally took a hit. Now, the FTA receivers I had for some years worked great until now. Recently picked up a fairly cheap receiver, online, KOQIT and seems to be good, but for the life of me, I cannot get the HDMI output to work with 3 of my Samsung monitors. I can hook it up to my Samsung TV and its HDMI input and it works fine. The 2 receivers I lost also worked fine with them, so am I going crazy? anyone have come across this or have any suggestions? And, since this is a somewhat cheap unit but works, what is everyone out there using for receivers these days? without breaking the bank? I enjoy watching FTA TV, so I will invest more if needed, what is a really good, detailed unit these days. I'm so use to watching a few of them HD channels. Right now I'm down to composite hookups, yuck! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank

Take the cover off, show me pics of the board of the bad one and also the bottom of the board. I'm an old hardware electronics tech plus a satellite dealer; I fixed a lot of FTA and regular receivers. I may be able to fix it for you. And yes, they got hit by lightning; it's best to email me the pics at diamondsatellite@snet.net or call me at 203-232-8888. I give you a 50-50 chance of fixing it; I do have spare parts. my phone is a fliptop phone

Anybody know how to add "hidden" audio channels like for 101 W Ku or 105W C band on these recvr's? I've exported the database file but don't have anything that will read or edit it.
cyberham
For 105W C, you scan in the Westwood tp normally. Then select the audio channel you want. Not necessary to manually enter. On 101W, you must manually enter.

Seems like I remember that now, with my V9 I manually entered anyway on 105, easier for me to pick the channel later :)

IS Amiko MIRA 3 any good ???
Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

That's great!

Many people have all sorts of power bricks laying around. Provided the plug fits, and it's the right polarity and same voltage and the same OR higher amps, why not try another one IF the device you want to try it on doesn't seem to work right.

Some people just call them power supplies (which really isn't a good fit in this case), some call them "wall adapters" but it's an external power supply or AC adapter that converts (AC) from a wall outlet into low-voltage (DC) that an electronic device needs to run.

[Give us a summary of what you receive with a 6-footer. I'm very curious.]

Right now on C band getting 105w, a Mexican channel with 95% quality and I am near Detroit! I'm recording a TECHNO MUSIC FESTIVAL today from Mexico ..if you can believe it.....and yes that SHED is partly in the path so I'm puzzled. There are also christian channels on 105w.

105W has some very strong transponders. I received more than four transponders using a 41-inch dish recently. See here.

The Westwood One Mux on 105W would likely be receivable, has some good music channels on there. It does scan in, but it's more convenient to manually enter the PIDs, check out Lyngsat for the channels: EchoStar 105/SES 11 at 105.0°W - LyngSat

I use a 10 footer (only C-band dish I have), but it's very strong.
