As most know Dish canceled Dish absolute The Reason I was given was few people subscribed to it. I spent 1/2 hour trying to get a supervisor, the first one hung up or pushed wrong button after a 15 minuet wait, the 2nd try another 10 minuet wait, finally I canceled and was told I have to pay to ship the receiver, remote and LNB back or be charged $450. They will send me a box and charge me $15 + or I can send it back without their label but no guarantee they get it.
I think Dish sucks. Basically they can do anything and we can do nothing but cancel and pay for them to get their equipment back.

And you do understand you are trying to justify a shipping fee that Dish charges, by making up a completely non-existent charge to compare it to?

Dish charges a shipping charge of $15 per box to ship your equipment back, OR you can pay your own shipping charges with a different carrier. Either way you have to pay. It's a FEE.

I'm done on this particular subject.

His point is that the fee is optional. You don't have to pay dish a dime, just ship it without their air bill. A fee is something that is charged in every instance without a way to get around it. That is not the case here. This is not a fee, rather this is Dish no longer providing a free shipping air bill to canceling customers (this new policy has been in effect for a little over a year now).

What it comes down to is people wanting something for free (the return shipping). Maybe it'd be nice if it worked that way, but it's not. One could argue that Dish is offering a benefit to the departing customer since the $15 for the Dish air bill is cheaper than what an individual would pay to ship the receiver back on their own.

What it comes down to is that everything costs money; and people are dissatisfied with having to bear this cost.

My feeling is, if they want their equipment back, they should pay for shipping or provide an easy drop-off location. That's how most other companies I've dealt with operate. That's apparently how Dish itself *used* to operate. Given that they have local installers come to your place of residence to install the thing, that doesn't seem like too much to ask. It's unreasonable to demand that someone who is canceling a service -- perhaps because he or she can no longer afford it -- pay for anything additional at that juncture. It smacks of soaking someone on their way out because they can. And it's not really a fee for a service, because really, does the departing customer care whether Dish gets that equipment back or not? Dish demands that the customer to send it the box and remotes and stuff, and then on top of that demands that the customer pay to send it. It's charging the customer a fee so that customer can provide the company a service. Should be illegal, honestly.

Dish doesn't care if the customer doesn't return the leased equipment. They're fine with letting you keep it and charging full retail price for it (turning the leased equipment into owned equipment). So yes, really, the departing customer should care about whether they return the leased equipment. Remember, Dish never forced anyone to lease the equipment, everyone that is complaining about having to pay the cost of shipping it back could have avoided leasing entirely by purchasing the equipment outright. They then could have attempted to sell their owned equipment on eBay or a similar site (at that point they probably could have had whoever bought the equipment pay for shipping and avoided the cost of shipping in that manner).

The whole notion of returning to a local installer is ludicrous. The majority of the installers are third parties that simply have contracts with Dish related to the installing of equipment and service calls. And the process isn't just verifying that the proper equipment is returned, Dish has to make sure it has not been damaged in any way (opening the unit up for inspection). And oftentimes the units are reburbished, recertified for use and put back into the distribution chain. Are people expecting the local dealers to take care of all that? I think what people want is to drop off the equipment and then leave up to the local dealers and Dish to deal with actually shipping it where it has to go. Again, that's just seeking to avoid the cost of returning the equipment by foisting it on someone else.

I agree that it would be more consumer friendly for Dish to absorb the cost of return shipping of leased equipment, but given the competitive environment they are faced with, it makes more sense to not cover shipping for free than to raise rates on continuing customers to cover the costs they would otherwise incur because of former customers.

Actually, the whole notion of it being impossible is ludicrous. I have already mentioned very simple ways how this could be done.
Part of my business is to provide consulting services to streamline operations and logistics to large merchants.

Yes, I am expecting local dealers to take care of a lot of that. If they do then there is no (or little) need to ship equipment back and forth as each installer could be self sufficient, saving the company money. They also wouldnt have to pay someone to do it at the home office, thus saving more money. This is not perfect and I dont have all the answers, but to say it is ludicrous or impossible is just ignorant. Why would the installers do it? Because if they want to keep dish business they will have to.

I dont care for the shipping fee. It doesnt affect me and it wont when i have to return it. I have known it all along. But it doesnt mean is the right way to do it, and it cannot be improved for the customer and the company's sake.

I already explained how to avoid this earlier in the thread. If you have multiple leased receivers and are planning on cancelling, BEFORE YOU CALL TO CANCEL have all but one of the receivers deactivated. They will provide the return shipping boxes for them along with labels. As you're still an existing customer, they pick up the cost of shipping those receivers. Once those have been received, call in and cancel the account. You'll have to pay the shipping on that last receiver (however you choose); but there's no reason for anyone to pay $30 or $45 or $60 in returning equipment. All it takes is a little planning and an understanding of how Dish works.

To avoid a whole lot of whining.
N
Okay, you have two receivers so they will be sending you two boxes and two labels. What if you box those two receivers in their separate boxes and then firmly tape them together and use only one label. Will that work?
It sucks and I'm trying to save some money, albeit $15.

You won't see this happening as anytime you involve local installers and expect them to spend time at no cost (remember, these people go into business with the intent that their time is worth money whether they're putting in equipment or not) they expect someone other than themselves to foot the bill. From their perspective, many don't care if it's the customer or the corporation, as long as it doesn't cut into THEIR profits. In the meantime, the corporation is protecting its profit margin and the customer is protecting their wallet. Everyone in this scenario wants to shift the cost and work, but no one wants to fork out the cash. You make an argument that ultimately winds up in E*'s court, but they already ruled that the customer should be paying.

The public grants these corporations charters and special rights like limited liability. I would suggest that perhaps they have an obligation to the public good, and not just to their shareholders. That idea was implicit in some of the early discussions surrounding the concept of corporations in the western world. The idea that corporations are somehow justified in seeking profits without any regard to anything else is one of the worst and most destructive attitudes of our time -- and is responsible for all sorts of economic injustice. I don't want to get too political here, though. Suffice is to say, I think this practice is wrong.

If you don't agree with me on any of that, and think that businesses should be allowed to do whatever they want, surely at least you would agree that as a customer I have the right to take issue with any practice I want? I don't get the double standard that a nameless faceless corporation should be able to take whatever stances it wants, but that individuals dare not take whatever stances *they* want. Just doesn't make sense to me.

It's interesting that when you call the national Dish number and agree to purchase their service, they can give you a time for installation immediately and the local installer shows up with the equipment, but when you call to cancel the local installer doesn't count as a branch office you can return your equipment to. It seems as though the local installer essentially acts as a branch office when it's convenient for the company, but not when it'd help the consumer out.

Anyhow, I don't want to harp on this too much. There are more important things in life to worry about. It's a small issue in the grand scheme of things. I just hate it when these big companies take advantage of people because they know the average person is too busy to sue or lobby for better consumer protection laws or whatever. People just take it, because it's not worth the hassle, and I understand that, it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle for me either, and unfortunately that's what these companies count on. It's irritating.

You have a few good points and I think a few misguided but well-intentioned ones. First, yes, you can expect if a business can take any stance they wish (or near to it) that you can object to any practice. What you can't expect however, is that your voice is as loud as theirs with inferior resources invested and accessible. Money makes the world go round, and while yes you can object, they can object louder, harder, faster and with much better paid lawyers than you can.

E*'s local installers are setup to put equipment in. Last I heard they didn't have any inventory tracking to take equipment back. It seems that company's entire system is set up to route everything through their warehouses or headquarters, so that's not really surprising. Even if they "could", you'd probably get charged for it (time to send someone out to pull it off the roof).

I have no problem with consumer rights. 50% of the time I'm the business, 50% the consumer. But I take issue on both sides of unjustified entitlement that is a cultural problem in America. Consumers want free free free, or discounted where that's not possible or extra services where cost is incurred. But nothing is free, which most consumers don't care about as long as it's free to THEM, but it ALWAYS costs someone. That's why many consumers want people to stop calling E* and whining about their bills. They chose their programming and as long as E*'s giving it, why should x-million customers foot the bill for the greedy 10% that feel they're better than the rest of the world?

There's always a cost and someone always has to pay it. In both this and the last post, nobody cares, as long as it isn't them.

And to illustrate my point, we have a volunteer: http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/243125-dish-getting-tight-no-resolution-offer.html

About a year ago I sold a 510 on eBay, the shipping for it was about $18, so $15 is a bit of a bargain.

The cost to ship the piece back must be paid by someone.

If you are leaving Dish I expect they decided to give you one last kick in the butt for leaving, and I apprecialte not having to bear the shared cost of your exit.

If you are leaving Dish I expect they decided to give you one last kick in the butt for leaving

If there's one thing I really look forward to, it's getting a kick in the butt from a big corporation making money hand over fist. ;) Not only a kick in the butt, but quite possibly a kick in the butt when I am "down" and have to cancel perhaps because I can't afford television at all! They're taking that $15 from people who may not have $15 in their pocket at any given time.

It's all hypothetical for me. I'm not leaving Dish anytime soon (Contract). But I did leave my cable provider a few months ago, and it initially wasn't to come to Dish. Initially it was, "I can't afford this, I'll cancel now and look into whether some other companies have cheaper options next month", and I went a few weeks without any television at all. I can tell you if my cable company had tacked on a $15 fee on my way out at that point, I'd likely never have dealt with them again -- and when I say I'll probably never deal with a company again, I usually don't, there is a popular consumer electronics retailer and a bank who I've had bad experiences with and never returned to, even though both would have "made sense" in some respects to deal with had I not had those experiences. As things stand, though, I may consider my old cable provider if they have a good cheap new customer offer when my Dish contract expires, or a good standalone Internet offer earlier than that. Granted, they'd have to offer me a great price, but that's just par for the course -- I'm poor and can't afford to pay a premium for almost anything.

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

Such is the way all forms of insurance are going.

On the Rx side, make sure you've looked into discount plans like GoodRx, RxSaver, and maybe even TrumpRx (there are quite a number of them).

Thanks to Fitch Ratings ( who gives the ratings on Credit and debt, as approved by the SEC, so they have accurate numbers) we have the totals.

DIRECTV's video subscriber base is the third-largest traditional multi-channel video programming distributor (MVPD) in the U.S. with about 8.2 million subscribers at the end of 1Q26.

The last time it was reported, it was 8.8M at the end of 2Q25, so only a 600,000 loss for 3 quarters, which is a major improvement, since for many years before that, it was losing 500,000 a quarter, 2 Million a year.

It is now losing less than Dish/Sling combined, I believe the Genre Packs are helping to retain and get subscribers.

I read several stories on this and most are clear as mud. They say a lot of the stolen bitcoin has been "locked out" and that everyone will be made financially whole. I guess time will tell if either of these statements are actually true.

That's kinda what I was seeing but all the news reports are suggesting that all investors will be made whole immediately.
The other thing they weren't clear about was the BTC that was "locked out" of the system. I guess that means that the stolen BTC is basically worthless now because I don't see how it could be replaced....but there is a LOT about the crypto world that leaves me scratching my head.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It is really really simple install (no special tools or instruments required and they guide you through using their starlink app and a simple set of instructions.

You can order direct from starlink online or from an authorized retailer.

Not at all like the special equipment needed for a satellite install.

It states the average amount they are under water is OVER $7,000. :eek

Personally, I tend to be the type that drives a vehicle for a lot of years....do my own oil changes and other fluid changes. Just replaced the spark plugs and a couple coils. Youtube is great for things like this.

I'm pretty sure the most you can get is seven.

What America can't afford is the payments on $80,000+ pickups and SUVs and $40,000+ crossovers.

Believe it or not, 8 yrs...96 mon is starting to become common.

What I can't believe is the interest rates they are charging now. I've got a high credit score and when recently at a Ford dealership I inquired about what the rates were for new vehicles and he said 6.9%. Yikes.

I also heard that someone was leaving the show at the end of this season. Any guesses as to who thats going to be?

Howard ...
You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

I wonder it they will show the teased meeting (in Origins) with Tony and Gibbs.

I'm curious how they are going to implement Tony into Origins (If they do) ...
Tony was introduced to Gibbs and the team, on NCIS, which makes it the Mothership side of things, he worked in Baltimore prior to NCIS, NO mention when they met that anyone had known one another ...
