Picked up a new BDT110. Been running it for about two weeks now.

MSRP: $149.99

Features: HDMI 1.4a, 2D to 3D conversion, 3D video effects, 1080p/24 DVD scaling, wireless ready (no dongle), etc.

Streaming: DLNA certified, Netflix, Vudu, Skype, Amazon, Pandora, Picass, Bloomberg, Fox Sports, You Tube, Twitter, CinemaNow

Setup: I am hooked up to a JVC RX-3 running through a Marantz AV7005 with 5.1 right now. Setup was a complete breeze. The unit is very small, similar to a DVD player. With the new analog sunset hitting, there are no component or analog outs. You will be limited to a digital connection. The new interface is very intuitive and a huge improvement over previous models. Setup video to 1080p/24, audio to bitstream w/secondary audio off. Network setup was a breeze. Just hooked the Ethernet cable and it was immediately setup. Next I updated the firmware to the new version (1.47) and done. You can also set your own background on the home page using an SD card.

BD Playback: I have watched several BDs over the past few weeks. Load times are quick and I have not run into any compatibility issues, including "The Next Three Days", a Lionsgate title. Picture quality is as you would expect from a BD. I see no difference in playback to my Oppo or other Blu-ray players. The pictures are clean, dependent on the quality of the source, with no artifacting artificial edge enhancement etc.

DVD Playback: I believe we have about reached the end of what we can do with a standard DVD. The player will upscale standard DVDs to 1080p/24. It must be set manually for each title as with previous players. The upscaling largely depends on the quality of the DVD transfer. Using Star Wars Episode 2 as my reference, shot digitally, I found the picture to be spectacular as a standard dvd can get. No jaggies on the fast moving scenes and colors were bright.

3D Playback: Of course the reference title is Avatar. It looked brilliant. Of course ghosting, brightness, etc are mostly dependent on the viewing source. I saw no ghosting on this title. I have also watched Legends of the Guardians and that was very good, also. No problems with 3D playback.

2D-3D Conversion: I have used this several times. The only title I didn't like it with was Bambi (4:3). The conversion works extremely well and adds a lot of depth rather than pop out. I watched the beginning of HP6 where the Death Eaters are flying through town destroying everything. The conversion never lost tracking and was clear all the way through. When watching "The Next Three Days, it felt like I was in the back seat. The one drawback was subtitles. They are far back in the picture. I might be able to adjust that out a little with the pop out effect. Over-all much better than any conversion I've seen on a TV.

Netflix: Netflix has the new interface which allows searching and also allows 1080p and DD+ 5.1 when available. Selection is pretty limited right now. Hopefully the selection will improve with the competition. Watched "The Chaperone" and the picture was terrific. No streaming artifacts at all. I saw very little difference between the Oppo and BDT110 on the "Green Berets", either. I only encountered a black flicker once last night. Brief and didn't reoccur. Never dropped sound.

Amazon: Amazon now has free streaming for Prime members. I have had no problem connecting full bars with HD. The picture quality is behind what Netflix offers, but there are a few good titles worth watching when you're bored.

Drawbacks: As I stated, there are no component or analog outs. If you need wireless, you will need to go with the 210 which has built-in wifi and a touch free sensor. There is no avi support as I have with my Samsung and Oppo or Divx. No big deal for me. I have other devices.

Overall: This is a great player for the money. Least expensive BD player I've owned. If you need DVD-A or SACD support, then the Oppo might be the way to go. If you need a player with great features and support, this is a great player. I'm liking this player more than the Oppo right now.

Pictures to come.

Did they get rid of the harassment screen warning me of health hazards? Hope so. I bought this player in order to get the Avatar disk but I've been considering dumping it in the trash and replacing with a Sony due to the annoying screens to get into 3D mode. My vizio does the same thing.

Can't you cut the precautions off?

Turn off the warning screens.

Didn't see any selection like that in the setup. Most annoying thing is I get double warnings, one for the player and a second for the Vizio. Connected the player to the lan and did the firmware update. Rarely use this player anyway. Purpose is to check disks I create from Vegas Pro.

Don,

If you turn it on, go into the initial settings menu, under one of them it has a 3D section, you can turn the precautions off. I never had them pop up when I was using the 210 for 3D.

Thanks Jason. Found it. I switched it to OFF and now the player is fixed. Next need to see if there is a cryptic hidden path to do the same form my visio. But having to do two sets of warnings was quite a scramble. At least it's only one now. :)

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

Losing 144,000 internet customers surprises me more.

Comcast called fiber pricing "irrational" because the ROI is over three years. What is irrational to me is Comcast internet is based on lines they put in the ground decades ago at this point, for the most part. Is copper that much more expensive to maintain?

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

The fiber coming in to the house looks like 300 ohm old TV wire I think that is the weak point.

Charter lost 77,000 TV subscribers, the bigger news, it lost 233,000 broadband subscribers.

You would believe both companies would of learned from what happened with their TV services, which was ignore that cord cutting was a thing, allowed competition ( streaming) to get a foothold in the industry.

Now, in today's world, there are more households in the United States without a paid live TV than those with.

Both companies charge too much, delayed upgrades, all because they believed no one would leave them, only game in town, competition started with the 5G services, Fiber soon after, enough said, Cord Cutting 2.0 is here.

Got to admit I never thought I'd see the day that cable lost internet subs.

Got to admit I never thought I'd see the day that cable lost internet subs.
I think the cable companies didnt either, back when they had no real competition in their footprint.

But today, for many, maybe even most, cable isnt the only choice, or even the best.

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.
M
Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Hate to say this no one is ordering Satellite TV. Both DISH and Direct no new customers.
After 25 years with centurylink DSL 80 speed i changed to Xfinity 300 speed for $50 wow lightning fast for streaming. Still have DISH 27 years with them. Americas 250 package for $103. What you think of superbox or vseebox for streaming is it legal?
Still dish is easy to operate and change channels. What will Charlie Ergen do with new super satellites with loosing customers with satellites and boost?
