Over the past several weeks the company continued to slowly recover from the disastrous hit they took last year with rate increase and a failed plan to split the rental and streaming branches of the company.

Netflix Shares Rise On NPD Study >NFLX

Shares of online video rental provider Netflix Inc. (NFLX) were up 4.8% Thursday after the NPD Group said the company remains dominant in paid video-on-demand service, despite its missteps in 2011.
The research firm said "nearly one in three paid movie rentals (31%) now come from paid video-on-demand options. Netflix is the dominant provider of paid digital movie rentals, posting a 55% share in the fourth quarter of 2011, though Netflix's share is down somewhat from the company's peak of 59% in Q2 and Q3 2011."
Overall, NPD said U.S. consumer rentals of DVD and Blu-ray discs declined by 11% last year, as more people adopt the ability to stream TV shows and movies.
The demise of many brick-and-mortar DVD rental stores has benefited Coinstar Inc.'s (CSTR) Redbox, which saw its share of disc rentals rise to 37% in 2011 from 25% in 2010, according to NPD data.
Shares recently traded up 4.8% to $103.30.

bruce- While I trust you believe what you state, can you find a reference documentation for it. In addition to what Reed Hastings said about it, in stockholders call I can only find documentation like this and dozens of other similar reports. Would appreciate your posting some documentation.

Also, I don't believe when a viewer wants to watch something like Toy Story or Tangled that Housewives or Grey is a welcome substitute if that's the only type of content remaining if your source is correct. I also feel and agree with critics that Reed's cavalier attitude about the popularity of Disney and Sony movies can be substituted with MGM, Paramount and Lionsgate.

As both a subscriber and investor in Netflix, I have to say that Reed Hastings needs to understand Netflix is not magic, that his subscribers growth is based on both good rates and excellent content. When you offer the kind of quality and quantity as does Netflix today, there is only one way to grow- Be the best of breed. He will lose that if he doesn't stay on top of his content licenses.

While they will soon lose the Disney Movies, they will have the Dreamworks Animation catalog(new and older movies) soon and they will be the only ones having them, not on Epix, Starz or anywhere else, only on Netflix.

Thanks, bruce. Appreciate your reference and the scoop on Dreamworks. Guess we'll know by next qtr report how the ad campaign they are running worked. Hopefully they will reverse the losses of 2011 and return to profits in 2013.

Could be wrong but memory serves, the streaming distribution rights on Disney is exclusive to starz.

I belive your right the disney movie streaming is powerd by starz play. when you start up a title you get the starz play screen like when a movie starts on starz tv

when does the dreamworks deal kick in. Im glad they have added xfiles and buffy. they need to try to get more old wb content not just cw like gossip girl and nikita although they are good deals and I like how the seasons are added to netflix after the season completes. shows like dawson and gilmore girls and everwood would be grate to have
D
how can netflix do a stream only business if not all the content is on stream and only disc. they need to have more of their dvd by mail content online

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.

I know he wants TV. He wants to deliver EVERYTHING to EVERYWHERE.
Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

If Musk really wants to buy Boost, he might get a great price once Dish Wireless is out of Chapter 11.

Boost just lost 182,000 subs in the 3rd quarter-

M
Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Rodney Dangerfield is great. One of his best one liners - "My wife likes to talk to me during sex, last night she called me from Florida!"

Jackie Gleason is another one of the greats.
