Again, i wasn't able to find existing posts about this subject but if there is/are just say so and i'll do more searching on this forum.

I'm getting ready to replace my DP 34 switch at my SuperDISH with DPP 44 over a single cable to DPP Separator to DVR 508 (single tuner) and receiver 301 (single tuner). Some folks say the splitted signals should only be fed to a dual tuner receiver or DVR and have them go to 2 separate devices. Some says having 2 signals go to 2 separate equipments, eg. 301 and 508 is perfectly okay.

Can someone please straighten me on this myth?

Also, how does most folks place the DPP 44 power inserter and DPP separator? Distance from the coax wall plate to the location of 508 and 311 is about ~7 feet. Given that is it better to place the DPP 44 power inserter and DPP near the equipments? Or place the power inserter near the wall plate and separator near the equipments? Or put both the separator and power inserter at the wall plate and run 2 cables ~7 feet each to 508 and 311? I'm so confused.

So if a home is pre-wired with RG6 cables rating of 2150MHz then is that the best prewiring that a home can have for use with HD/SD satellite signals as well as with HD/SD digital cable signals from local cable company?

That is, is RG6 backward compatible with RG58 and RG59 commonly used for cable signals and cable modem service?

I'm no guru but I can say that RG6 rated @ 2150 mhz will be fine for your house wiring as that is the wire of choice for any DBS/Cable digital signal to pass. There is RG11 but it is overkill times 10 and baby the cost is high for whole house distribution.
RG58 and RG59 will not work for a digital signal to pass as they only pass up to usually around 1050 mhz tops and digital uses usually 1100 to 2150.

The 501, 508, and 721 are the only ones you don't pay the $5.00 DVR fee. Even if you have the 301 plugged into a phone line you will have to pay the $5.00 a month for a second IRD. With 522's going for about 150 - 200 on ebay just get that. You would pay the same amount as having a 508 and 301 on your account, as long as you have a phone line into the 522. With the 522 you would have DVR on both tuners. Then you could use your DP44 and a seperator and not have to run another line.

I have a 921,301 and a 322 and do not pay the DVR fee.

Like Simon, I am from the old school. I just run the necessary wires to the receiver and forget about these "new fangled" electronic devices. This makes all of the systems that I install to be ultra reliable and easy to troubleshoot.

While electronic devices controlled by microchips have a track record bf being ultra reliable, they are subject to heat surge or electrostatic damage and software glitch errors. I have heard reports of heat related problems with the DP+ twins. Hope it never reaches the level of the CSS9601 DishPro twins. We are still getting reports of them and are still replacing them.

Very little can happen to good quality rg6 with correctly applied high quality compression connectors like Snap-N-Seals.

If running extra cable, should i still replace my DP 34 with DPP 44 switch?

So my setup is i have 3 cables from SuperDISH to DP 34 switch that feeds a single cable to 522. Since i don't have necessary tools and etc. to run a new cable from DP34 to 522, i went the cheap route and decided to replace DP 34 with DPP 44 to use existing cable to 522 and use DPP Separator to both tuner inputs. Yes, it's ad-hoc, but at the moment that's my plan A.

I will try to keep cable length from DPP Separator to the 522 dual inputs short and equal in length, and make sure the segments of RG6 cables i'll use from wall plate to DPP 44 power inserter to DPP Separator to 522 inputs are correctly frequency rated RG6 cable.

So done all that, should i expect the same or near same picture quality as running a separate cable from my existing DP 34 to the extra input of 522?

If running the extra cable is *really* better solution, and if i'll get relatively better picture quality then i'll do that. And if running new cable is better, is there any advantage of doing that using new DPP 44 or just use my existing DP 34?
SimpleSimon
It's digital - quality is NOT affected the same as analog.

If it's running right - that is, decent cable connections - you will NOT see ANY difference.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

I didn't start it as a political statement and have no interest in the political BS of this country. Everyone wants to make everything political nowadays. This was just my rant over the outrageous increase in my premiums and how unaffordable healthcare is becoming to the average person here.

There are no dues to be paid to be in the Pit. You just have to use the password which is clearly shown when you try to log in to it.

I have Dish Hopper and Hopper Plus and also have Alexa Echo. I link the Alex skill to Dish and it asks me to enter the pairing code shown on the TV. I go into Dish Settings and there is no Alexa shown. Not sure what to do.

Understood. But here's the rub - Google Assistant setup is ALSO missing from the Hopper Plus setup. I'm a paraplegic.and need to use voice controls as much as possible but I can't press a button on the remote to activate Google Assistant. I prefer ALEXA (or ALEXA+) but I have one older google device and will go that route IF they make it available. BTW calling Dish Customer Service is no help- they just say they have no info on if/when there will be an update.

Tell Alexa verbally what to do.

What is the purpose of connecting Alexa and the H3?
I stand up from my chair with my glass in one hand and my plate in the other, when a story I really want to hear comes on the TV. So I say, "Alexa, pause DISH", and it waits for me to return from the kitchen, at which time I say, "Alexa, resume DISH".

Or maybe, when I return with a full glass in one hand and a new plate in the other, I realize I forgot to pause to hear this good story from its start. So I say, "Alexa, skip DISH backwards 3 minutes", and I still get to catch the whole story.

I use this every day. Or until I acquire a third hand.

I figured some of the guys would be looking here for an answer. You'll need to use this link

I'll mention what happened over there. I don't want to cause Scott any issues or put him in a bad spot.
