So we got MeTV locally. Big whoop..

The picture quality is much inferior to the C-band feed I get on 87w.

But the real @$$ chapper is that they drop a local "slate" (is that the right term?) and an announcer says this is MeTV being broadcast by the local sub-channel.
They always drop it in 5 seconds early, ALWAYS. 100% of the time they cut off something important, like Elliot Ness or Frank Nitty laying out the law...
Then after they cut off someone with the local announcement they run the normal MeTV slate/announcement, ALSO!!

Well, that was annoying enough...

Until today..

Today they started covering over the commercials that MeTV was sending down with c**ppily made local commercials.
For the first few months it was essentially on auto-pilot, they just piped through what was coming down with the exception of injecting the local slate into the wrong spot at every commercial break.

I totally HATE the low rent, low budget, no talent local commercials! I would rather slam my head in the car door for an hour than watch local commercials!

I've been using the ATSC tuner in my new (to me) Dish vip211k tuner to watch MeTV and other local channels.
But, I've also been missing ThisTV for the last month as well because I've been almost exclusively watching the Dish tuner for what ever is on it and the local OTA channels it can tune in.
OMG I wish I could feed the signal coming from my C-band dish into my Dish network tuner!

Buh bye MeTV local...

I am once again reminded why I have a 10' satellite dish in my back yard. That dish, hasn't been getting much love the past month.

Well, back to basics baby!

Ah, back to topic, it would be nice to have OTA ------ more than 5 channels. And really nice if there was less snow on those 5 (and more) than there is on the ground and in the air.... I thank GOD every day for Satellite Guys and satellite TV!

And of course, I am also thankful that the rain (and snow melt) all runs down to the creek - and then to the beautiful Columbia River! No floods here.

Depending on where you are relative to Goldendale, if the local translators have not lied to the FCC, you should be able to get digital versions of KOIN 6-1, KOPB 10-1, KPTV 12-1, and KPDX 49-1. The KGW translator holds a permit to go digital, but is currently analog. The translators for KATU and KRCW do not currently hold permits to go digital.

turbosat
radar, at least we can now see what those old tv shows really looked like back then! LOL
Kojak and Rockford, and other, older shows that we grew up watching with 2-3 ghosts imbedded in the video all look great now. If the channels weren't cutting 7-8minutes out of every show to squeeze in more advertising, it would be perfect tv.

We are 12 miles east of Goldendale. There 2 hills between us and Dallesport, so even with a 10 foot boom on the OTA antenna, we only got PBS (twice) OTA. Then the ice (4.5 inches) and wind (76 MPH) brought that thing down. I had said I would not put it up again after the 6th time, but I did, and it lasted 9 weeks! I had better reception from Tri-cities (Pasco, WA) direction.

Will there always be free to air programming in the future?

Well, I've been receiving FTA satellite since 2005, and there's always something good to watch. Many members here have been scanning the skies far longer, some since the early '80s.

"Always" is a very long time, and there's no telling what the future holds. Technology changes, and FTA changes with it. Change is one thing that is constant in the world of FTA, you never know what channels you're going to lose OR what channels you're going to gain. That's part of the fun of it, and its never boring.

Here is a recent thread discussing the future of FTA...
Dee_Ann
Well since last week when we had that line of really nasty storms blow through, the local MeTV sub channel got really weak. I had recently put up a pre-amplifier to help with my OTA and it did make a difference.

But the folks carrying MeTV, something happened and the signal dropped a lot, it's so weak that I just can't get it now, I get tons of the dreaded yellow signal lost screens.

My 10' dish, never missed a beat through all that nasty weather. Thank goodness for it because it's now back to being my only source for Me and This..

The only problem is, switching between it and Dish is a bit of a pain and I can't switch it from other rooms, I have to go to the room where the PC is and do stuff there. :(

Oh well. Maybe they'll fix the local feed so I can tune it in with my Dish tuner. I still hate local commercials but it sure was nice having one tuner for OTA and Dish.

IS Amiko MIRA 3 any good ???
Can you recommend the best to cover all bases. NO BEEPS on certain channels 101w (NEWSMAX ,NEWS NATION), a clock that keeps working STEADY for timed recording ,solid unit with good lifespan. My Amiko died AND my Linkbox has NO Favorites Button and BEEPS on many channels. Picking up 105 west with a NEW SHED IN THE Way with 6 foot Cband ..95 percent quality ...unbelievable.

Have you tried a new power brick on your Amiko? It's slim pickings out there anymore. The FTA market in the US has pretty much been abandoned.

This would likely be your best bet, and Rick is a good seller. I've never had any issues with him:

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Say, I don't wear socks or shoes in my house either. But for a captain in Star Fleet it looks bad to be walking around the academy with no shoes. Gives off 1960 Hippie vibes.

And don't bend it more than it needs to. Zack has destroyed $2,000 of Apple hardware to get those views, which should cover his expenses.

yes. even copper lines in a house degrade over 70 years, I doubt coax would last that long. Fiber Optic on the isp side will last over 70 years with very dedgration

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

I would think that the Vendor/Maker of the product would have a say in it, showing the Correct weight ...
You would think it would be in the contract.

I do look at the ounces of items, but unless its way off, I don't check the math, may have to start now.

Remember when you use to get a 13.5 oz bag of Chips .... Thats a PARTY Size now.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).
I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

Perhaps only for sliced meat and cheese. Salads and similarly "shifty" or "drippy" items are typically weighed in deli cartons of some sort.

My monster burritos (up to two lbs.) are weighed in their foil jackets or paper mache take-out trays, and the jacket/tray is then "sealed" with the printed label as it comes off the printer.

Precision has to give way to practicality in situations like that.
